Just to clarify. It's really not paranoia. The ideal plan is to have sentries out so your enemy can't sneak up on you, and a plan to get enough units to defend yourself.
In the near future, we'll get a sentry up on that forest hill NW from the Phalanx's current position. That will give us an incredible vantage point to see anything that comes our way. But let's just see what happens in the meantime. |

Just wanted to point out as we get ready for the next turn that today our team thread topped 750 posts and 50,000 views!
That makes this the most popular thread ever hosted in the 10+ year history of Realms Beyond. To all of our readers, thank you so very much for sticking with us so far. And we're not even at 1000BC yet!

But it's not the longest. RBP1's IT thread is currently in the lead, but I suspect that Byzantium will catch them soon enough, unless something...unfortunate...happens to them.

You can probably lop off 2% of the total views on the basis of my (and people like me) refreshing of a non-updated thread.

OK, back to work. Turn 74 is underway, rolling over late at night US East Coast time (as seems to happen every day right now). I logged in just to take some screenshots; all units left unmoved. Quick highlights:
- We topped 100 in GNP this turn. "Best Rival" is... 40. ![]() - Axe and chariot complete; next turn we complete another axe, then another axe/spear pair the following two turns. We're not running cardboard cutouts anymore, folks. ![]() - All units left unmoved for now! We are waiting to see what Jowy does this turn, both moving in-game and with diplomacy. And three points for Speaker: * I'm going to redo the micro plan tomorrow to update some of our changes. It should look close to the one I posted today, mostly. (For example, that barracks in Antietam is a placeholder until I sort out the numbers.) * Let's split things up this way: Speaker moves all the military units, I move the workers. I think that plays to each of our strengths, so long as we keep communicating on the overall plan. ![]() * Our research is insane for so early in the game. Like, stupidly, wickedly good teching for pre-1000BC. How about we try this: Archery this turn, then Polytheism next, and if Judaism still is unclaimed, we go Masonry -> Monotheism and maybe land our own faith! We can get those techs very quickly, and if they're available, why not? Only a slight detour from the Polytheism -> Priesthood route we were going to do anyway en route to Monarchy. Of course, now that I've said this, someone will probably found the religion next turn.

That tech path sounds great if Greece doesn't get too rowdy. If he tries to mess with us, I'm not sure we can afford to delay Monarchy and Horseback Riding that long. But we'll see what happens.
I've just logged into the game to check tech costs. We are making 76 beakers per turn at 100% and can run 100% 3 out of every 4 turns. I must admit I don't fully understand how tech cost is actually calculated, with regards to modifiers from prerequisites and rival civ knowledge. I'll go read the guide in the War Academy on CFC. EDIT- Each rival civ who already knows the technologies provides us with a modifier of .03 (in this game). Each prerequisite technology provides a modifier of .2. Overflow is modified by the prerequisites of the previous tech, so it's great if you can save an early cheap tech that has a lot of optional prerequisites and everyone already knows, then later put a ton of overflow into it, giving yourself a bunch of free beakers toward a more modern tech. I know most of this info was already posted in the thread, but I'm just typing as I think out loud. Archery- 89 Priesthood- 89 Meditation- 119 Masonry- 119 Polytheism- 149 Sailing- 149 Monotheism- 179 Horseback Riding- 373 --------> We could actually have this in 5 turns (4 research, 1 gold). ![]() Monarchy- 448 |
