Yes. Flat tiles have a line of sight of 1. A hill has a line of sight of 2. A peak (really awesome on the edge of your land) has a line of sight of 3.

It's as if a a unit is on every tile within your culture borders.

BUt Peaks are only 2 tiles LoS, not 3 IIRC?

I just world-buildered it. Peaks do only see 2 tiles. However, unlike hills, peaks can see over hills and forests (but not forested-hills).

The next turn is up, and I grabbed a screenshot of the starting Demographics (before anyone whips or whatever) but I'd rather hold off and play tomorrow. Maybe Jowy will have a response to our latest message by that point.

Cleaning up some other diplomacy; these messages aren't that important, so I'm just going to send them. Nakor:

Quote:
Dear Sulla and Speaker,

Peacefull solution, that sounds great. Although I have to admit that we're not THAT happ with Dantksi's city placement there. It only nabs one deer and not a lot of production, so we don't really see the point of that city. Then again, land is power...

Our EP will take a bit longer to get to 43. But we'll stop spending, as promised, after that.

Does Dantski have a road net connected to you? If so, our trade should pick up once we've connected our roads to Dantski, right?

Oh, and I still forgot to congratulate you on the scientist! Great job there.

Kind regards,
Nakor of HRE
Good to hear that not everything is completely perfect over there... I sent this short message back:

Quote:
Dear Nakor and DMOC of Holy Rome,

It would be more accurate to say that working improved tiles with strong food/production/commerce is power in this game. Just claiming land itself doesn't do all that much for you. Dantski was perhaps a bit reckless in grabbing land near our borders too; his copper city needs a lot of worker improvement to be productive. I guess that's the goal of an Imperialistic leader, go for the land first and then improve it later on (?) We think Financial was a more important trait to have. :)

Thanks for the response on the Espionage points, it's a deal. Dantski does have a road connection to us, and we are both collecting income from trade routes, so I believe that we will connect to you as well if you can build a road to his cities. (Never 100% certain what's going to happen with those crazy trade routes though!)

Cheers,
Sullla

On a more sombre note, we got yet another message from regoarrarr:

Quote:
Hi guys,

A few things:

* I have proposed OB ingame. I plan to move Spiros south on the road past Chancellorsville unless you have better ideas

* If it looks dim for us to survive, would you be willing / interested in Spiros' services? A bit dicey since I wouldn't want to gift unless we were SURE to be eliminated, since otherwise it'd be hard for you to gift it back

* Jowy settled Thebes, I believe on the same tile where they were standing. I'm sure you've seen it if you logged in already this turn. It's guarded by just one phalanx, which you could probably take with your 2 axes and chariot in the area.

* Another thought which came to me just now (in the shower of course), was that if you could hook up your empire to Jowy's, you might be able to connect our empires for resource trading purposes, in which case you could loan us a metal to whip spears / axes. I see that you guys have open borders, so you could move Dreyden and Eslau to road the tile 1W of Thebes, which shoudl connect you and him, and perhaps connect us up through the river? Obviously that would be appreciated on our end

dan.

Response:

Quote:
Dear regoarrarr and Team Byzantium,

Let me tackle your list with another one!

* Speaker accepted the Open Borders request so that you could keep moving south. Your best bet is probably to keep moving south on our road network, which will take you to Dantski's civ eventually. (We have a road connection to him for trade route purposes.)

* If the worst would happen, we could certainly use a place for a Woodsman II warrior. Thanks very much for the offer.

* Jowy's new city is indeed right on our borders. However, it's a poor spot with essentially no food bonuses (one sugar buried in jungle) and crushed by our culture on three sides. We really aren't interested in capturing that location very much! It seems like a net drain on his resources, since he'll have to put a large garrison in there. Dunno why he picked that spot over the many locations with food bonuses nearby...

* We actually already have a trade connection to Jowy, and can exchange resources and Open Borders trade income. However, we don't have a connection to your civ, unfortunately. I suppose that's because we don't have a sea connection mapped out to your capital (?) If building a road would connect us to your team, we certainly would do it, believe me.

Again, I apologize that there's very little we can do right now. athlete has a huge army according to Soldier count (and keeps whipping his cities over and over again); it seems that he really wants to do you in. :(

Sorry for the mistake. The rules of tile sight are uber confusing! This is what I meant, but wrote the wrong thing.

I have made this picture using the WB, which covers pretty much all of the line of sight rules.

Mehh - 2 tiles / 3 tiles. Once again I have gained more insight into the various complexities of this game and the thought processes of experienced players that I wouldn't have even dreamed of considering myself until reading this.

With uber efficient Sentry guards dotted around the place, how much do you think this will cost in GPT? (not that you are going to be running out of $ in the near future with all these cottages going up). I know you get so many units free, but I have no idea how many.

Two notes from turn 78.

Dantski finally farmed the rice at his second city!

One minor thing, Sullla. When you move units out of Antietam, can you move them via the Horse? This will give us the maximum flexibility in case anything wacky happens around Gettysburg, since any unit on the Horse can reach Gettysburg, Antietam, or Chancellorsville in 1 turn. I swapped the Barracks in Antietam to a Spear, as well. I'd like to have 1 "real" defensive unit in Gettysburg, just in case, and spears don't really need the Combat 1 promotion at this point. Without it, they still slaughter Chariots, and with it they still get owned by Axes.

State of the empire pictures to come...
