I see Bob has posted in the lurker thread...Gee, I wonder what he's talking about
So, @Bob - here's why I'm going along with this 'quit now' stuff - it just won't be fun to have to deal with the complaints. Yeah, sure, we've each seen 10% of our 300 tiles, and yes, this portion is very much Lanun favored. There's still a lot we haven't seen, which I'm willing to bet is more balanced. Fact is Lanun have nothing going for them but the early cove-powered snowball; it's as much a balance problem as 'oh noz elves can build on trees'.
But one of these days I'm going to win a game, and when that day happens, I want it to be 'Mardoc, you've really improved', not 'well, of course, the map made you win'. Do I really think this map is broken in favor of the Lanun? No, not really, you know FFH better than that. But is it going to be fun to argue about the map? Not at all!

I know I was part of something like this before, in 24, though to be honest I was less fussed about the subs than I was about trying to avoid having to find a replacement for TT.
But this is ridiculous. Really, seriously over the top. And pretty insulting to Bob, honestly, who has a pretty clearly strong understanding of how FFH works. There was also a map thread here where if Lanun were that seriously advantaged you'd think it would be pretty apparent to the lurkers. Most of the really unbalanced maps we've seen are the ones where there was no map thread.
But yeah, you're in a lose-lose position Mardoc, I'd just vote agnostic on the whole thing if I were you.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

I agree, people are quick to point fingers at the Lanun, but a fast start due to coasts is all they get, and if they were that bad then I too think they would have got banned as with 14 games under our belts by now I think we should have a good feel on what does or doesn't look overpowered

Hey, Mardoc! Don't mind my little joke in the trash talking thread. I know that your situation is probably very frustrating. I'll hold my judgement on the whole deal, my offering to make a map is just be helpful. Like I've said, this looks like an interesting map.
Let's hope I can make a map that is also fun and interesting!

Frustrating, yes. At least I'm not in Bob's shoes, though, with heavy map criticism from what, T3? At least in my worst map people didn't start complaining until Ellimist killed his first target, and y'all kept playing despite the complaints.

Seriously. I think this is stupid. Mardoc, stand up for yourself. You made the pick!
I think its ridiculously unfair to Bob and I think that you're just as much to blame for letting yourself be swayed by this perception by others that you will have won (IF YOU EVEN WIN!) because of the map. I mean what the point of Lanun if you don't leverage the civ???

Maybe I should have stood up more for Bob. I agree with just about everything in his lurker thread rant, after all. And it's not like mapmakers grow on trees, especially clever ones like Bob.
But what's the point in arguing to continue? I'm here at RB to have fun, not to have arguments. Even if uber and Ilios agreed to continue, I'd bet the game died of disinterest around T100
