I sympathize with the "what was I doing?" feeling -- I sometimes get so focused on what I am doing in a game that I don't pay enough attention to my rivals and get surprised. Too busy thinking about all the stuff I have planned for my own cities and such to remember that the enemy gets a vote. duh

Oh I was WAY ahead of Augustus in tech and WAY ahead in power. I had an early hammer plant that established my borders and got me a heroic epic city. That city did almost nothing but pump out military. I also had my globe city up and running and drafting pretty quickly.

Even so, it took all those units and more to handle what Augustus threw at me.

On the other hand, Emperor is an expected win for a serious player without too much effort (not saying I can manage that myself). So I'd be interested in seeing you take on Immortal, perhaps with a chosen, strongish Civ/Leader. Mehmed, maybe, or our old friend Zara. Or Julius, or Vicky, or the Inca...

But don't let that put you off trying to start a new BTS PBEM instead. The last couple were great fun (for the lurkers, at least).

I'm down for a BTS PBEM if others are. Heck, you, me, haphazard1 could easily do one. I've actually never played on immortal so probably can do that one smile I'll see what I roll up.

Just so everyone knows, the difference between Immortal and Deity is enormous, while the difference between Emperor and Immortal isn't much. The AI cost factors are 85% for Emperor, 80% for Immortal, 60% for Deity. It's a gigantic difference in how fast they expand and grow.

You can win Immortal by simply playing well and straightforwardly. To win Deity, you need to attack some particular weak spot in the game design. (Or several.) Like tech trading, espionage economy, marathon speed conquering, cheap cultural or diplomatic win conditions, selecting good leader traits or UU against bad, rigged map like the 1-tile maze.

I'm a bit late replying to this as I've been off on holiday, but yeah, I'd be up for trying a PBEM if we can rustle up enough interest.

Shallow_thought, I'll post in the general forum for a BTS PBEM game. I figure once we get 4 or so we can start.

We can always duel if you'd like, too.
