[SPOILERS] RB PB7 LURKER Thread

spacetyrantxenu Wrote:@Commodore, I think I'm going to institute a policy of screwing with Mackoti and Seven just because I can. They're still power gaming and logging in after every time one of us does. It looks like they tend to wait until we log out and then they log in within a few minutes, according to my reading of civstats. My guess is that their paranoia requires them to figure out what we've done and take any and all immediate countermeasures. To screw with them, if you happen to be around your civ computer at random times of the day and don't mind wasting a minute or two to log in, leave it logged in for a few minutes, and then log out, we can probably each waste several brain cycles for whoever on their team is compulsively checking the game. This may be petty and it's certainly anti-social behavior on my part, but I just want to screw with them since they're not abiding the casual spirit of this game. Since they're not playing by the same rules as we are they'll inevitably receive advantage from it (and I'm normally all for rewarding people for "effort in = effort out", but not when we agreed ahead of time that this game was supposed to be different). So if they're going to have their advantage, I want to have my sport with them, at their expense. If they want to call me an asshole when this is all over, they probably should. But I'm going to do it anyway.

Logging in (and staying logged in for a bit) in 3...2...1....

Edit: another idea just came, can someone post a list of the civ community's acknowledged best players (excluding any who are playing in this game). I can change my login name to match theirs, to induce at first a bit of confusion and then probably consternation. Heartburn FTW!

This was the start of it for them, I think. After this, there was the issue of Mack/7 being able to log in more frequently during the contest for advantage. The problem is that we have players who have more time to spend watching Civstats or who are more willing to spend the time doing so. I really think if Xenu had known he was signing up for a cutthroat game he would not bicker so much about his lot in the game.

Having said that, he certainly could take his losses a lot better. yikes

ASM certainly went well beyond what is reasonable. That is as kindly as I can say that. smoke lol

Posted in here instead of Plako's thread to avoid spoilers and such.

plako Wrote:Diplo thread+civstats gives a pretty good picture about the things e.g. how Sunrise played his attack against Ichabod and Pindicator seems to be doing pretty similar attacks against SleepingMoogle. However civstats also reveals the main difference. They've played vast majority of their turns normally whereas LP is constantly abusing the system very blatant way e.g. with logging in and out all turn and double moving so that the opponent really doesn't have a chance to react or counter-attack. I'm pretty certain that vast majority of players have 1-5 times where they've double moved to gain advantage or got double moved with negative result, whereas LP probably have something like 10-15 of positive double moves and I'm surprised if there are more than 1 or 2 relevant case where he would have been double moved.

I think what's missed here is LP has been involved in active war all game long. Not so much for the others. So is it really all that different if Sunrise has only one big double-move even though he's only had one opportunity? He hasn't had to. He's 1/1 on major double-moves. LP has had probably a dozen opportunities because he's fought 3 different players in a dozen different skirmishes. So if he's had 7 or 8 double-moves, is that because he's worse than everyone or because he's had way more opportunity? I suspect it may be a bit of both, but more of the latter.

plako Wrote:This game is already lost cause. I'll play it nice against most opponents and only double move, if I think my target can handle it.

Kinda what it boils down to right? Double-move the nice guys and you're playing within the spirit of the rules, but don't do it to the ones with a hotter temper or you'll be branded as a power-gaming villain.

It's the combination of the double moves and the clock manipulation. LP has built up a history of doing this (see PB4). I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but I think LP vs. Sunrise or even LP vs. MackSeven is a very different thing. YMMV.

Ultimately the issue is that no matter who is right and who is wrong it is absolutely crystal clear that 18 players signed up for at least 3 different games. Fault plako for that with the setup, fault the players for misunderstanding, fault whomever. The bottom line is that Meiz, SleepingMoogle, Ichabod for sure and probably slowcheetah, Xenu, and Lewwyn signed up for one game. Then LP, sunrise, pindicator and perhaps some others signed up for a different game. And there is just absolutely no way to reconcile that - you're either going to get the admirably perceived silent turnplaying of Moogle and Meiz OR the angry spewing of Xenu and ASM. Sure, I think anyone can tell you CommoXenu and ASMs rants are primarily born from planet soreloserdom but the reason they have any traction at all is because there's an entire set of other players completely disinterested in the game they are now playing.

We went back and forth on LP months ago and I doubt either side has changed their opinion at all so there's no point in doing so again. Regardless I think there is zero debate that he's the most aggressive powergamer on the site in all the ways that is a positive and all the ways that is a negative.

After their recent updates, I wouldn't count out Mackseven just yet. They are in a much worse position than LP, but Seven and Mackoti are better players than LP (not a knock on LP, Mack + Seven are just that good) and they do have a window here to leverage their Pyramids power-up. I just hope the players are willing to play it out enough for us to see what happens.

I'd agree with this if LP hadn't already bulbed Education en route to Lib > Nat > Taj. You really can't beat the guy with a ton of land who lands MoM and Taj.

Otherwise, I'd say mackseven's superior (to pretty much everyone alive) skills would give them a fighting chance. The nice thing is that once Xenu gets annexed by the two of them they'll share a border.

I was also thinking Mackseven could have a long-term chance here. No doubt, LP will soar ahead during his golden ages, but with some successful military campaigns and a strong espionage economy they might be able to catch up before it's too late. Of course, LP has an extremely defensible position, and is no noob when it comes to modern warfare, so the chance is slim.

Edit:
