Apocalpyse Redux - Os-Gabella of the Sheaim

Lanun surprisingly decide to offer a 10 turn peace treaty instead of the ceasefire. Since I go earlier in the turn order and I don't consider attacking anyone until I have PoL feasible anyway I decided to allow this. The culture on Fur island will grow in a couple of turns preventing galley scouting from the east.

No hostile Amurite units were spotted so far. I have hawks + initial PoL and mobility for my PZ in two turns. Pretty sure I can beat off an invasion if they try anything. The thing is due to slow development they probably have no choice but to fight someone or fade into irrelevance.

General civ management stuff:

Part of the reason I'm been sitting in conquest for 8 turns and spamming PZ is that my city size cap without buildings was stuck at 9 anyway so the best way to make use of extra food was to train military that was necessary anyway. Fur's due online in about 4 turns, pearls in 6, deruptus in 10 as of EOT, so I have the option to revert to Agrarianism/vertical growth when these come in since temples, public baths and carnival/tiger are all available. This would also involve building plenty of cottages as too many farms under StW eventually become redundant anyway.

It really depends on whether I think the long game is at all feasible in the absence of the ability to properly coordinate a stop the broken civ leader attack.

city sizes (11): 11/10/9/9/9/9/8/7/2/1/1.

Non-warrior units currently stand at 10 PZ, parallel PoL production starting.

I have 2 ancient forest growths in 2 turns because the game likes to annoy me like that when I don't play elves.

ok

Hawks require animal handling now so I don't actually have them frown That's a problem as OO and econ techs are screaming "research me."

Also noticed something, my stupid 3 tile fur/ocean crab island counts as an overseas internal trade route worth 2 instead of 1 commerce despite the fact that it's 1 water tile distant from the mainland, which is kind of dumb as every city on the mainland gets to use the traderoute even though it's size 1.

Another reason why Lanun are broken on this map I guess. Islands way too good by a factor of 234632 million. The civ should be perma-banned in PBEM. No other civ puts so much balance constraints on map design and it's way too difficult to get right.

I'm probably done with FFH PBEMs after this anyway.

Tatan has been building military pretty rapidly for a 5CC. Looks like an all in. My warrior keeping an eye on the pass was eaten by a griffin, replaced him with a PZ.

Pretty much forced to stick with conquest until I know whether I'm being invaded or not, lol. I'm forced to hedge at the moment and not 100% on either miltary or economy due to what can probably be best described as recon failure. I still don't know who's my western neighbour.

If I do get invaded, I can do 100% gold disciple - PoL upgrades in 3 cities and PZ in all the rest.

In the meantime OO has been acquired and I'll go pick up trade.

Still drifting in autopilot while I watch the mountain passes and power graph for signs of Tatan attacking someone else

there are now, excitingly enough, some cottages

I might as well build some AF lumbermills since my land is really lacking in hills I suppose

Not sure what is going on. Threepwood was built last turn and died the next turn (?), trashtalking thread indicates that Tatan seems to have attacked Darrell (?) in any case it looks like I should be moving my forces back to the other side of the empire since it seems clear that Amurites are not invading me and I have no real reason to invade them

galley spots Lanun lands in the position to my west, bizarrely enough...

I guess their stupid boat must have taken the long way round the circle to get to my land from the other side, why they wouldn't send 1 boat in each direction I'm not sure

so the circle is Sheaim - Lanun - Bannor - Ljos - Amurites - Sheaim

Mardoc went theocracy and conquest, and for some reason, overcouncil

civic choices indicate he's either going to attack Ilios or myself

if he attacks Ilios I should obviously attack him

if he attacks me I should defend/counter and hope Ilios follows the same logic

the other two players are fighting each other and thus not a concern for now

therefore either way I need to prepare for war. since my neighbours started militarizing first my own military buildup isn't necessarily a tell of my intentions.

It's going to take too long to get mages up (although I can certainly research KotE and get some adepts) so maybe I should just stay at priest/adept tech level and get hawks for vision

Ok I have hawks now, which haven't spotted an incoming invasion yet but confirmed that there's a central island with landbridges that has gold and silk on it. I should probably send a few units to take a barb city there. First Mage guild halfway through production

Still in a hybrid stance and really wishing I could coordinate with Ilios.

Army count: 13 PoL / 19 PZ

City count: 13, building priorities Courthouse and Public Bath where necessary

I'll make a temporary switch to OO next turn to get a few cultists, and AV is currently being researched

Lol scouting south from my base over the islands reveals elves on toroidal worldwrap (wtf!!!). Could have found them a long time ago if I'd paid more attention scouting the damn islands or suspected the map was toroidal. Also there's a better island than the 2nd one I settled. I guess I'll take that as #3 island going up to about 15cc. Oh well whatever!

Much to my displeasure they're trading with the pirate scum, which reminds me I should get currency at some point which would add extra stupid traderoutes when my 3rd island is up

Offered OB, Map trade, and (excitingly) corn for corn trade

right now I'll probably go for Infernal Grimoire - Malevolent Designs giving myself options on Mardero/Beasts/Stygians
