Nice worker plan Sulla, really highlights the utility of your unique unit.
If you're still planning to go worker-worker-settler then it might make sense to put one of the free worker turns into pre-chopping the forest SW of the capital rather than mining the hill south of it. In other words, same plan, but move the blue 1 square one tile west. The other hill, being on a river, will be a nice tile to work until the cow is improved. (And also a nice tile when you grow to size 3). |

T13 started, Chamberlain is fully healed and moves directly south, seeing very little. Next two turns should probably move southeast, then southwest. Bronze Working 2t, Worker 3t.
In the Demographics, we have three score increases, a tech researched by athlete, Kodii, and Zeviz. Now because it took exactly 7t for each of them to research that tech, and because we have a total Soldier count increase of 6k points, we can deduce that each team researched Mining tech, because it's by far the most logical outcome. (It's possible that one of these teams could have researched Mysticism and built a warrior, but that just doesn't make sense in the context of the game.) These three teams have followed identical tech paths so far, starting with Fishing research and then going to Mining, which would suggest very similar starting positions. One of the teams is up to 9 food/turn, which means working a clams/crab tile plus a 3-food second tile at size 2. (2 + 4 + 3 = 9) The teams working the seafood tiles have also seen slight increases in their GNP from the costal commerce. Obviously we're falling slightly behind in the rankings, but our first worker is nearly done, and we'll make up most of that ground while the other teams pause to build their own workers. That's all to report for the moment. Still no other teams met so far. Jowy/Yaz haven't found anyone else either.

Man, this is taking a good while! I suppose the cloak and dagger thing helps big time here. Wow is multiplayer different from singleplayer.

Well, for anyone who missed it, here's the big news tonight:
![]() I saw this on CivStats when doing one of my many obsessive checks (I usually check CivStats about every 2-3 hours... I know, I have issues!), and logged into these forums just to make sure it was genuine. Yep, no joking around: Mortius is GONE. Dead and eliminated on T13 of the game. ![]() The IamJohn/Kodii/Zeviz team is the one responsible. Now notice how there was no score increase for their team; that indicates that Mortius' size 1 capital was autorazed. This is good news for everyone else in the game, as Kodii's team basically got nothing out of their early aggression, aside from the lack of a neighbor next door (OK, that is significant!) But they've taken a major diplo hit; I doubt anyone else will trust them very much throughout this game. Wonder if it was worth it? We are fortunate that this wasn't our team getting eliminated! Our opening makes us very vulnerable as well. Still, overall I think this is good news for us. All of the other teams are likely to become more skittish, building more warriors and archers to prevent a similar fate. In contrast, we will push workers/settlers and get ahead that way by taking some risks. (No point in playing the game if you aren't willing to gamble a little bit.) At the very least, we won't come in last place! ![]() Finally, how ironic is it that Aggressive Zulus are the first team off the board, eh? Now you see why Speaker emphasized starting with Hunting tech (and a scout) was such a major disadvantage! I'm going to log into the game and grab the new Demographics data, to reflect the fall of Mortius. We might be able to get some diplo capital out of this with Jowy as well.

Ouch! It takes 15 turns to build a worker on normal speed, so if they went worker first and the warrior appeared on a diagonal, they wouldn't have had time to build a 15-hammer warrior. The fastest you could manage a warrior is 3 turns if you had a 2-hammer plant with a three-hammer tile to work (plains/hill/forest). With a one-hammer plant and lacking a three-hammer tile, it would take 5 turns to build a warrior, so you would definitely die if a warrior showed up out of the black on the diagonal.
Oh well, fortune favors the bold, but not Mortius, evidently. Perhaps we should bring our warrior a little closer to home, as we continue our reckless build up. The good news for us is that three of our blind corners are protected by the ocean and the little lake. Let's explore that river delta as we make our way back toward the capital with our warrior. Oh, and yeah, scout start sucks.

Yeah, Demographics screenie didn't reveal anything we didn't already know, although it did confirm a number of the assumptions I made. (We were correct in our estimation that Mortius had 4k Soldier Points, for example.) I'll just add a link to the updated Excel file for the curious. Too late at night to do anything else right now.

I'm sorry if this is spam, but I'm just here to post what I think:
So it seems that hunting and mysticism are the worst starting techs for a multiplayer game. Uhm, that means the HRE team could be in trouble! Honestly, best economic traits + rathaus really seem to be what that team was going for, and landsneckht (forgot spelling) seems to be good too. Yes, I've remained unspoiled, and I can only see you guys. Still, I really must wonder what happened. Hopefully you can take my country (under "The Killer Angels") to victory, but with your ultra peaceful opening you look VERY vulnerable indeed. Be warned! EDIT: Wow, I went back and just realized that the offending team was playing as the Incas. Maybe Mortius was defending with archers and the Incas swarmed him with quechuas?
