I am once again asking for the quote of the month to be changed as it is now a new month - Mjmd

RBP7 [SPOILERS] - The Chronicles of Nyania

New researched techs:

HAK (turn 12)
Moogle (turn 12)
Azza (turn 12)
Catwalk (turn 11)
Lewwyn (turn 11)
Team FFH (turn 11)

Will analyze these later when I have some time to figure out who might have got what.

New growth:

spacetyrantxenu (turn 11)

This perplexes me, as it means he likely grew to size 2 with only a 2 food tile - avoiding a Worker all that time. Surely everyone had a 3 food resource somewhere around their start? Seems a bit of a dubious move either way.

Spacetyrantxenu, MackSeven, and Pindicator are the only folks who haven't researched a single tech yet. I expect we'll be seeing theirs coming in shortly.

Some limited (and not necessarily correct) opponent tech analysis:

ASM - T0 founded capital, T1 free tech, T10 researched Agriculture
Nakor - T0 founded capital, T10 researched Agriculture (maybe The Wheel)
twinkletoes89 - T0 founded capital, T10 researched Agriculture (maybe The Wheel)
Yuris - T0 founded capital, T9 researched Mining (maybe Mysticism)
Catwalk - T0 founded capital, T11 researched Agriculture (maybe The Wheel)
Xenu - T0 founded capital, no techs since
Plako - T0 founded capital, T9 researched Mining (maybe Mysticism)
Slowcheetah - T1 founded capital, T2 free tech, T10 researched Mining
HitAnyKey - T1 founded capital, T2 free tech, T12 researched ??? (not Agri or The Wheel)
Meiz - T1 founded capital, T3 free tech, no techs since
Sunrise - T1 founded capital, T9 researched Mining (maybe Mysticism), T9 free tech
Moogle - T1 founded capital, T12 researched Agriculture (maybe The Wheel)
Azza - T1 founded capital, T12 researched Agriculture (maybe The Wheel)
Lewwyn - T1 founded capital, T11 researched Agriculture (maybe The Wheel)
Pindicator - T1 founded capital, no techs since
DaveV - T1 founded capital, T11 researched Agriculture
Mackoti - T3 founded capital, no techs since

Hmm, interesting... one erroneous conclusion you could draw from all this is that you're much more likely to get a free tech if you settle on T1. tongue

It's official: I think the map is trolling us. tongue

Corn, double gold, fresh water, and what appears to be no less than 5 flood plains. Or 3 flood plains + an oasis if settled 1N. Seriously? yikes

That's certainly got to be a contender for one of the best city spots on the map, if not outright THE best spot in the game. Why couldn't that have been next to our capital? alright

It looks like there's ocean or at least a large lake to the west as well (mousing over tiles reveals no fresh water)... so it's possible they may not even have any competition for that spot. They're Creative too, so can instantly get a border pop wherever they go. Ugh.

Meanwhile, exploration south of our capital has revealed no new resources so far. It looks like the land comes to an abrupt end though... we'll see in another turn or two.

I guess at least we know there must be someone out there to Team Googly's west or southwest to vaguely compete for their luscious land (even if it's much closer to them), since their 4/8 espionage ratio tells us they've met someone else. And trying to look at it optimistically, perhaps such awesome land over to the south/west of Carthage will cause them and their neighbour to fight battles to over there rather than towards us. That would at least be a small upside.

Still, even if another civ takes that spot from them, there's still the sad truth that we're unlikely to ever control that location ourselves - at least until much, much later in the game. So someone else will likely be getting the benefit of the mega-commerce city regardless. Oh well.

A Lion appeared to the south of Rainbow Dash exploring over by Carthage, so I moved him in about the only safe direction. Wonder how much longer our Scouts will last now that animals have started appearing... hopefully we'll strike lucky and survive a while.

Well, we've revealed that there's definitely an ocean or at least large lake to the west of Carthage. Guess the neighbour they've met must be either NW or SW of them then, most likely SW given that NW should head into tundra.

As for the south of our capital:

There's still no new food visible. Looks like the only remaining land to explore is SE of our capital, along a peninsula or land bridge of some kind. Don't know whether it will connect to anything or not... but regardless, it seems the thinness of the land suggests it's not going to add much potential to our empire. Not unless there's something like Pig-Corn-Fish-Gems down there.

Nothing new revealed over to the west of Carthage, aside from another flood plain (sigh).

As for the south...

Yep, still no resources in sight. What were we expecting, after all? lol

Our slow-built Worker is finally done, and we're improving our Rice. Onto a Warrior now, as we grow to size 3.

Animal Husbandry will be in just in time for us to improve the Pig. Then we'll research Bronze Working.

Let's hope like heck for Horses/Copper/both, or else we're pretty screwed. (Or rather, even more screwed.) wink

Ah well. We might need to start planning our micro for optimising a rush. One for chariots and one for axes.

Well, nothing much in our micro that we can change before T26 anyway. And we won't be able to hook up any resource before ~T45 with this slow start regardless, unless we get a tech from another hut.

Besides, the plan's basically the same for either Horses or Copper: settle the resource with the first settler (if it's not already at our capital), hook it up once we've got roads, and chop/whip/build as many units as possible. The only real choice that could arise is if we're lucky enough to have both Horses and Copper, in which case we need to decide how to balance Axes and Chariots. Otherwise, we just spam whichever one we can build - assuming we have at least one strategic resource.

Still no resources discovered to our south.

The big news this turn: we met antisocialmunky to Team Googly's southwest. He's Hatty (Spi/Cre) of Mongolia (Ger/Keshik).

I really, really hope he's connected by land to them. It's possible he might not be, in which case Team Googly will probably have free reign over all that delicious land. If he IS connected though, it looks like he'll be only slightly further away from that insane flood plain/gold area... which hopefully might inspire some battles over in that region.

We should confirm next turn or the one after whether there's a land connection between the two... for our own sake, let's hope like heck one exists. smile

Hmm, Googly's Scout will probably be encountering our borders sometime in the next few turns. Might put our Warrior on alert, and take him out if he gets too close. After all, the less they know about our territory the better.
