I'll just start by saying that I've never actually played always war lol. I've read about it here at RB (including some strategy tips), but we'll just have to see how it goes. The following "a bit longer term survival" - points came to my mind immediately.

- Don't forget that you're not dealing with AI here. Build some fricking spears! smile
- Expect to be attacked behind four tiles at all times. Don't leave your cities defended by one unit.
- Don't forget good fog busting.
- Avoid shores if possible. Especially for capital.
- Settle on the hills. Walls is not a bad build, especially with stone.
- Don't get choked by an archer for half of the game.
- Choke someone with an archer perhaps? lol
- Find some ivory...
- Get catapults, even just for defending.
- Try to not look like a big threat. I think I can handle this last part quite well lol

Gandhi is a decent leader and I'm actually thinking to concentrate on specialists in this game. Leveraging the Phi trait and becoming less vulnerable for pillaging seems like a good idea. I'm probably not going to abandon cottages completely though...

Khmer is also not too bad as long as I find ivory somewhere. Otherwise I'm quite screwed :|

So much for avoiding those shores... alright. Here's what it looked like after moving my units.

There seems to be tundra to the south, so my position might be quite safe from the attacks. Ok, not complaining about the shore anymore.

In the end I decided to move my settler on the same spot with scout and not found a city this turn. Having a capital vulnerable for naval attacks and the seafood being pillaged all the time is just not my thing smile. Also makes sense to center the capital a bit and leave back lines for later cities.

Is that first image from Bohnanza? Love that game

It sure is smile. When thinking for a team name, for some idiotic reason, bean was the first word to come out and that transitioned easily to Bohnanza. At least the city naming will be effortless lol. My grand plan is to name the capital as Stinky bean, which should guarantee that no one wants to attack there. Unless they start to suspect we've hidden secret chemical weapons there of course... yikes

Talk about bad settling options... cry

I literally stared this beautiful view for about 15 minutes before deciding to settle on the spot. On flat ground and on shore... uh oh... Might be an idea to move the capital at some point.

Research was set to archery (8 turns) since I started with hunting. What use is farming if all my farms are pillaged? [strike]I didn't want to build a warrior when archers were around the corner so I'll pre-build worker for 8 turns, then switch to an archer when available.[/strike] Nevermind, changed to warrior instead (probably still better to let the city grow).

There's been talk regarding Lewwyn and his bounty hunting. I'll probably stay completely out of it. Let the others bid against each other, while I'll remain invisible rolleye

Remember me talking regarding specialist economy? Pyramids might be just too much to resist, it's clearly a sign from the RNG god! (or just me going nuts).

So much for that luck, hello there.
