I'll just start by saying that I've never actually played always war
. I've read about it here at RB (including some strategy tips), but we'll just have to see how it goes. The following "a bit longer term survival" - points came to my mind immediately.
- Don't forget that you're not dealing with AI here. Build some fricking spears!
- Expect to be attacked behind four tiles at all times. Don't leave your cities defended by one unit.
- Don't forget good fog busting.
- Avoid shores if possible. Especially for capital.
- Settle on the hills. Walls is not a bad build, especially with stone.
- Don't get choked by an archer for half of the game.
- Choke someone with an archer perhaps?
- Find some ivory...
- Get catapults, even just for defending.
- Try to not look like a big threat. I think I can handle this last part quite well
Gandhi is a decent leader and I'm actually thinking to concentrate on specialists in this game. Leveraging the Phi trait and becoming less vulnerable for pillaging seems like a good idea. I'm probably not going to abandon cottages completely though...
Khmer is also not too bad as long as I find ivory somewhere. Otherwise I'm quite screwed :|
