[SPOILERS] Land of Chaos - HitAnyKey

oledavy Wrote:It can already work that farm, since it's in the culture of the capital and in the BFC of Dragon's Mouth.

I had tried. It didn't show the tile as being available for the city. I had thought it would too, so I'm confused.

Click on the tile.

A given tile can only be worked by one city at a time. If a tile is shared between two cities, then the last city to work the tile has dibs on it. This is useful eg when you want a chop to go to a certain city.

Go into the city-screen of DM and click on it. That should give it to DM and allow it to work it.

Thanks guys. I can't believe I forgot that one. Gah! All these things I've forgotten due to the few years of not playing. I really wish I had been able to find someone to join with me to help me remember all these little tricks. Oh well.

Perhaps it would be wise to play a SP and try things there to remember how some things work and which things don't work. Who bulbs what and what are the costs etc etc and all the other mechanics.

Be sure that most of your opponents do know such details by heart and some could even write Theses about the fine details of Micromanaging workers, whips and other things wink

A good source is reading threads for example this or T-Hawks site or any game of Krill

Edith says I'm an idiot for forgetting one of the best threads: Sulla/Speaker-PB2
Ignore the Drama but there is a lot of usefull MM-advice in there.

I'll try to take a glance at those threads when I can, but I don't really have a whole lot of time to do so right now. LP (I still have trouble calling him by that, as I know him as Emperor from all our games together LOL) nudged me over here for a joining a fun game of Civ, and that's what I'm doing. I'm having fun with it. I don't really have the desire to spend a lot of time micromanaging the workers and whips and other such details. Most of my decisions so far have been made only a handful of turns before the decision needs to take place.

If any of you know of someone that hasn't been reading all the other threads, and might want to either lurk just mine and/or actually join me as a teammate, let me know. I certainly wouldn't mind the help, and apparently could use it.

Definitely don't read my threads just yet. They are never particularly well explained (well, except maybe the start of PB1) and they are all variants as I've never once played a "normal MP game.

I suggest you read sullla's PB2 thread (provided you don't mind wading through tons of spam and being patronised).

I will however go on record as stating that if you don't do micromanagement, you are going to get crushed. And I'm pretty sure that isn't a spoiler...
BTS games: PB1, PB3, PBEM2, PBEM4, PBEM5B, PBEM50. RB mod games: PBEM16, PBEM20, PB5, PB15, PB26, PB27, PB37, PB42, PB46, PB71. FFH games: PBEMVII, PBEMXII. Games ded lurked: PBEM17, PB16, PB18

I'm a fairly mid-level player and nosy as hell, so I'll try and give some advice.

At the micro level, you need to improve your land better and work your food. Food let's you grow population onto new tiles. New population can be turned directly into production (via the whip) or commerce (via specialists). Always work your best food tiles whenever possible. I've always found it good to plan out my first 50 or so turns, as those are the most critical ones. Of course, if an emergency comes up (aka some jerk turns up with a stack of axes or something), you'll need to be flexible and adapt around it.

Really, what micro entails is having enough workers to improve your land, growing quickly onto improved tiles, and making sure your best tiles remain worked. A good way to do this is to have tile yields (CTRL-Y) on, this shows how many bread slices and hammers and coins are being extracted from each tile, and if a tile is being worked, those icons are blown up in size.

At the macro level, I would have never built the Great Wall if I were in your position, and definitely not this early. What is it for? +100% GG points? Useless unless someone attacks you, and from what I've seen of free-for-all games, people who are the most military-conservative and economically-aggressive do the best. Barbarian defence? You're at the end of a peninsula! It is dirt easy to fogbust that land! I'd rather have put those 75 hammers into a granary first, instead of a granary now.

It could be effectively leveraged into running an espionage economy. Tech stealing and Great Spy infiltration have not been banned for this game.

EEs are hard! Not to mention Always War and No Open Borders makes tech stealing expensive. It's an advanced strategy that takes alot of work to integrate into standard play.
