Gillette Diplomacy Thread: Dossiers, Scheming, and Puppet Strings

Kyan Wrote:It's irrelevant. They can't check wink

I suggest we congratulate them on being correct and offer them a tidbit of information as a gift- that we've met menagerie and could potentially facilitate a meet should that interest them.

Yeah but *I* want to know lol

I don't know of any way besides clicking on the individual threads and adding them up... I clicked through the 4-5 most popular threads and I was on top of nearly all of them so I think I'm winning handily. wink

Any objections or suggested changes to my proposed Menagerie message?

I like the proposed messages. I am assuming their scout moved, spotted our borders, then retreated the same turn so we would not see them. Nice move on their part, but it does mean they can not have seen into our capital and thus can not know if it is defended.

It would be nice to know where they are. I am still uncertain about the map -- if it is a donut style, are we in the southwest (and our warrior is exploring the outer coast) or the northeast (and he is on the inner coast)? Given Menagerie's position, knowing which coast it is would tell us to look more east-ish or more south-ish.

Looks fine to me mate.

Sent that Menagerie draft. Only change is I chose not to sign my name, rather just signing as "Gillette."

So I'd like us to draft up a message to Trolls, as I'd like us to pump them for a bit of map info. I suspect they are east of us, and we're organized something like this:

Code:
*

*        *

   *    *

Basically a pentagon within the donut is the simplest way to spread us out fairly. From the geography, that would make us bottom-left and Menagerie the NW of us. I'm saying this here because we probably confirm this if we can figure out if Trolls is east of us. The question - does anyone know where we actually met them? Did we just not get a picture of that or what? We seem to have no pictures documenting the meeting of both them and Menagerie, and I'm not sure how that happened. The message we send to them might be slightly different if we're more confident that they are in fact east of us.

So wait, do you guys want me to tell the Trolls that they were right, or to say something like "Despite a push from regoarrarr during those 16 hours (nice guess that he would do so, btw), Scooter does still hold the "Most Posts" title. Exactly how secure is that? I do not know."

I am basically certain Scooter has the most posts.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

I agree. However, I don't think we should confirm that. I'd rather that they thought our top poster was one of the more unknown guys. Merovech or Yossarianlives. That's not a dig at you guys whatsoever as you've been brilliant thus far, I just don't want to give them any intel they could potentially use against us.

Hmm. How do you suggest answering them, then? Saying something straightfoward like "Surpise! It's Merovech! I did say I was the official Team Gillette Not-regoarrarr." or "Surprise! It's actually Yossarianlives! <something clever>" or maybe something less direct?

Haha, at least Merovech has an actual post count to back that up!

But definitely use my name as needed, if you think they'd buy it.
