Couple things:
1) Restart your computer if you haven't already. It's dumb but it fixes the problem sometimes. lol
2) Have you changed anything about civ since the last time you logged in successfully? Changed any settings? Added any mods? Played any other games? As much info as you can give would help.

I am also unable to get in. I just tried Brick's suggestion, I did install a new mapscript a long time ago, but even with it deleted, I am booted out. Although, I just realized I didn't remove it from my recycle bin (would that possibly even affect it?)

We might need a pause.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

No that wouldn't affect it. This is so weird. Actually, there's a utility out there somewhere that checks to make sure all your files match the main game. If you have a game file conflict, that would cause you to potentially get locked out. Anyone happen to have a link to that utility?

Interestingly, the warning is now staying up just long enough for me to read the whole first line: "The file you have selected is protected to ensure that its assets..."

i've managed (hopefully) to sort it, it looks like it had something to do with my Norton anti-virus. reinstalling Norton and reinstalling the Mod has let me back in.

Ah, that would make sense. Merovech, might want to check your AV/firewall software too.

Sorry Xenu - not sure what happened on my first login. It said we were OOS, so I logged out and back in and it seems fine. So I'm assuming it was just a temporary glitch.

No worries, I completed my port scan, yours isn't the PC I was looking for. mischief The message only stayed on screen for a moment and then I was able to get right back to taking pictures of nothing interesting for my (silent!!!!) readers. All seems well now, Commodore was in and out before I logged out.

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

I tried the utility- the only errors it gave me were not having the HOF Mod or BUFFY.
