[SPOILERS] Kurumi & wetbandit serve you Hannibal's Breakfast Cocktail (of Persia)

The Micro Post or How Hannibal Learned to Live without War Elephants

Here are my ideas on what we should build next. This does not consider the possibility that we decide to settle 2S of the cap and share the corn, thus giving the cap the WB. I think that's a discussion for a soonish time, but I'm thinking we probably want to settle 3E.

Assumptions

We have two close neighbors. Both more than likely went worker first, and both may go worker-worker given the amount of tiles they have to improve. This probably serves to reduce the possibility of a warrior stumbling upon us while we live in our peaceful utopian sandbox. This is potentially risky.

We will not have an escort for the settler, increasing the risk that a 2 move animal appears out of the fog. We can mitigate this by keeping the scout close, trading off whatever benefits we would have from the scout, well, scouting.

We will not have any barb defense until T37; barbs will likely start spawning before then, provided that there are 15 human cities. It is reasonable that 5 other civs will have settled their 2nd city by that point.

If we don't go worker-worker, we need to determine if our 2nd city should whip one at earliest chance or build from cap, thus delaying the 2nd settler.

Worker-Worker
Highlights: 2nd worker completes EOT25; lots of chopping (4 forests through T37); Settler completes EOT34, WB EOT35, Warrior EOT36; 2nd city founded same turn as WB nets clams; less food in cap food box

I put down way too many signs. I started on the warrior, also found wet corn 8E of the cap next to a 5 tile lighthouse-able lake.

That lake has a 2nd ring clam and will be a great city. I'm thinking that we either keep going deep with the scout or head back soon to poke around Azza and Molach.

Azza finished his first tech this turn, more than likely Bronze Working. No copper on the tiles we revealed in his border.

EPs wise, we are 24/24 on Molach and 20/20 on Azza, demos won't be available for some time.

Someone has 12000 soldiers, probably just techs still. Retep grew to size 3, I guess it's possible he's building warriors.

This lake city spot is such a sweet place... Makes defending from Eastern Hordes a lot easier!
I don't like jungles. Jungles have panthers in them. They eat scouts. Before breakfast, even.
But I think we should go on tiles 1N of Plains Cow and 2E of Clams, then go back and make our scout a sentry so we see any shenanigans before they knock on our door.
Yeah, I'm not happy about my past behaviour either. shakehead

I played the turn, but neglected to upload the pictures. I moved over the corn and ended in the Jungle, the area to the NE has a lot of riverside tiles. It might be worth one more move in that direction, but I agree we need to get back and monitor our own neighborhood. We'll come down towards Molach by way of the Cow.

That lake spot will be great, even in the short term with wet corn and lots of forests. Wishcasting into the future, I could see it as Moai (5 coast and 4 lake tiles) or NE (+13 food with lighthouse and two grassland farms).

Also, the 12000 power is probably Sisu with Hunting (2000), Mining (2000), and BW (8000). Don't mind me, just reading too much into the tea leaves on the demo screen. smoke

I guess C&D is more interesting in the starting phase of the game because there is not much to do smile
I think we'll see action soon enough with our neighbours though!

Played the turn, will upload pictures when I get home. Had to dodge a lion, but we're safely in a forest heading south towards Molach. The river to the east winds southeasterly and has riverside jungled gems.

Not much else to report. After the farm completes, move the worker 1 SW and back into borders to unfog the one tile down there. The worker is scheduled to have downtime until BW comes in, so at least we get some use out of it.

Molach has some really great options for his 2nd and 3rd city. His scout is also next to our scout in the east, I was hoping we would bump into someone else over here; just for the possibility that Molach has to pay attention to his East.

I think that our tech path would only change if we found copper somewhat close by, we're stuck with fishing otherwise. Of course, it looks like we're going to try and race Molach to the East for the lush land out there.
