Rowain is correct although I'm not sure when that city will be founded. I think my next priority is to found some cities on the newly discovered island to my south. I will be dot mapping it shortly and have 2 settlers in production and another to come from Dreylin hopefully so I should be able to boost my city count from 4 - 7 in little time at all.
I am looking to found perhaps 5 more cities on that island in total - we shall see.
I do have another city called Galle on the Ivory Coast near Ruff that I thought I took a snap of but obviously didn't! It was founded to essentially give me a source of Ivory.
I'm not sure what "Nation" the new Island will be. My home island has English names, the Ivory Coast has Sri Lankan so the new island needs a theme... I guess Australia would make sense, or perhaps Indian...

I should probably point out though that this one was renamed to Galle from Headingly (I think it was Headingly... or Edgebaston...). This is beacuse I wanted to keep the seperate islands to a different test playing nation.

Just had a chat with Dreylin after the following emails:
Square Leg Wrote:Hey Dreylinian I,
Just a quick note to say that i completed Calendar so please feel free to push through the Calendar - Compass trade as agreed. I completely forgot to do it this morning!
Have you any plans on where to head next? Perhaps we can co-ordinate so as not to duplicate once again?
Cheers,
Sitting Bull of the Native Americans
Dreylin Wrote:Sitting Bull,
Trade request sent in-game; you should have Compass next turn to start putting out those Harbours! 9-)
I see you're going after Music next, and I have no plans to compete with you for that target - partly because I don't think I could beat you... 8-) I'm grabbing Drama next to enable my UB, but after that I have no clear goal yet ... probably something in the lower regions of the table though.
As for subject lines, I always find RBPBEM#2 to be a useful starting point - since it stands out from the other e-mails - and then it really doesn't matter if you can't think of anything else... 9-)
Cheers,
Dreylinian I.
And the ensuing chat:
Quote:15:21 me: Hey Dreylin - you ok for a quick chat?
15:22 Dreylin: probably
(may be a little distracted)
15:23 me: ok - Well I'll just post and if you don't answer I won't be offended!
Dreylin: 'K
15:25 me: Before Yaz declared on me again for trading Ivory to Darrell, I sent him writing to enable him to get CoL from you. But now we are at war again i can't broker the techs for you.
Dreylin: Yeah, I had noticed
me: Also - neither of you have alphabet to trade the techs yourself.
15:26 Dreylin: indeed
me: I feel bad from your point of view so I would like to make amends and front you Alphabet. So long as I get a settler in return within a nominated timeframe - 10t for example.
Dreylin: I'm still working out where I can get a Settler out for you
me: would that be ok?
Dreylin: Hmmmm
15:27 I'd need to see the turn again
(well next turn)
15:28 me: ok - well - I go before you so I shall offer Alphabet in game - if you are happy just accept the deal, otherwise decline it and we can talk again.
15:30 I have tried to contact Yaz recently but he isn't talking to me understandably, but if he wants alphabet then he can take it from you if you give me Monarchy from him - I owe you a brokerage fee though!
otherwise i'll have to reseach it myself at some point.
15:31 Dreylin: Heh
15:32 I think that I should be able to get a Settler to you in <10t
(and it's probably best that we arrange a timeframe, otherwise I'll keep putting it off!)
15:33 me: cool - like I said before - I won't be founding any cities on our border with it. In fact - I am tempted to leave both those spots for now.
Dreylin: got some nice land to your SE?
me: The Island to my south has enough room for a few cities first - although it is an odd shape...
15:34 It's ok - very thin!
Dreylin: aha
me: same calendar resource as mainland!
doh!
Dreylin: well at least you got one on your Island!
more than I did
15:35 me: That's disappointing...
I do feel we are slightly more cramped than the others - in particular Krill and Darrell are quitre far apart
Dreylin: Ah, I haven't got that far yet
me: you wait and see!
Dreylin: just passing Yaz
15:36 me: ok - I'd reccomend the northern route to krill via Darrell... I went south and it added a few turns on there,,,
Dreylin: Did you say you had tried supplying Ivory to Darrell?
15:37 me: yeah - yaz squashed it
Dreylin: not surprising
I guess I still don't understand why you aren't helping Yaz out though
me: no - i did put little beards and hats on them as they sailed through his capital but he was a little more astute than I had hoped!
15:38 Dreylin: surely Ruff's lands would be a good target for you...?
me: Yeah - it would but I am not interested in warring really - I'd rather build my way up.
15:39 brb
Dreylin: but you did just comment that we were cramped!
and that leaves you 2-ways to expand - through me, or through Ruff
15:42 me: or upwards.
Dreylin: true enough
I suppose
15:43 me: The island to my south has enough room to get me to 10 cities - I don't think that is too bad at all. That includes not settling towards you anymore also
Dreylin: Hmmm, sounds like a decent total
15:44 though I hear that Krill's most of the way there already! 8)
me: I am not going to be going through you with cataphracts around am I?? The time for attaking Byzantine lands has passed - we chose to be friends!
Dreylin: Heh
15:45 me: Krill is storming away - I am tempted to cut him out of trades... I don't have any lined up at present. you?
Personally i think you are going to be in the best position to stop him.
15:46 You have the best offensive unit in the game for its era and are next door.
Dreylin: Is he SE of me?
O circumnavigator
15:47
me: Thnaks!
He is... just a sec...
15:49 yes - more or less although his capital is still north of the equator.
I cannot tell exactly but I'd say his capital is about the same as Lords...
Latitude
15:50 Dreylin: 'K
me: There is an island in between you that i don't know the extent of yet.
he has a city there
15:51 Dreylin: That must be East on my southern island
*of
me: It is about 7 or 8 tiles south of the crabs in your northern outback
- Break -
15:54 me: Hey sorry - I made a mistake and closed my browser...
Dreylin: np
15:55 been trying to find a map

me: yep...
just a sec...
Just sent it to your keiper address
15:56 got it?
Dreylin: not yet
(sorry, trying to finish something up atm)
me: no worries
16:00 Dreylin: interesting
that is pretty close to me
16:01 me: Yeah - but you said there was no way to get through?
Dreylin: (infact now I look, I can see the borders bleeding under my FOW
me: So the fun is about to begin for you!
16:02 Dreylin: There may have been one location I could have founded
to create a bridge
but it would have been a crappy city!
me: haha - Will his city bridge the link?
I don't think it has expanded borders ywet
16:03 Dreylin: no
I think it has popped borders
(from what I can see)
me: Ah - i was just glancing at the map
16:04 Dreylin: yeah, must have
16:05 me: Well - weleome to the 2 neighbour club!
That city isn't on his mainland from what i can tell. Will be able to confirm in a few turns
16:08 Dreylin: Well there we go
wouldn't have spotted that without you telling me!
16:09 me: His work boat came from the gap in the middle
16:10 Out of interest
What do you need to do to get Trade routes with him?
Just have touching borders?
that don't go through ocean?
Dreylin: I think that's do it
or even a borders to coast link
(but I think that's out)
16:11 me: Maybe for now but once the 3rd rings pop?
I wish my WB didn't have to go all the way back the way it came!
Dreylin: Well 3rd rings out to sea are less predictable
16:12 me: Don't they depend on land elsewhere>?
Dreylin: yeah
Looking at it though, I think that city will link him across once 3rd ring pops
16:13 (of course that's 1-player transit)
16:15 me: ok - cool - just means we will be able to trade both ways around the world in stead of just 1.
Dreylin: possibly, yeah
(not 100% on how that works)
me: me either - guess we will just see what happens!
16:20 Nice talking to you - I'll send alphabet along when I play the save. cya
Dreylin: OK, cool
I sent him a map showing the location of Krills city to his but deleted out unecessary information.
I got a real cold shoulder effect to begin with for some reason... I think he lightened up and chatted quite freely in the end. Don't know if there was anything to worry about... We do have a NAP after all.

Just a quick update:
I have offered yaz 30g for peace.
He has now sent me this:
Yaz Wrote:Hey SL,
I just got the game open and saw your deal. Needless to say I was confused. Any chance you could explain your reasoning a bit for this as I don't exactly understand where it's coming from? Also is there a reason I should trust being locked into peace with you for 10 turns with just your promise to not trade resources to Darrell when you've done so at every opportunity before as well as going so far as to trade a cities and units to Ruff to help him in his war against me?
I'll be available on chat for the next 5-6 hours to talk if you'd like.
and I have replied with:
Square Leg Wrote:Hey Yaz,
Sure - I don't see that we need to be at war and we wouldn't be if I hadn't tried to send elephants through your capital - although granted that would only be a cease-fire. I offered the gold add some incentive to you since I realise that I will add a couple of trade routes again to my cities.
If you are not interested in peace then please refuse the deal. If you wanted to arrange a cease-fire then the same clause of not supplying any resources to Darrell applies - I just cannot offer you any gold.
I will be around for chat for most of the day today so if you see me here - regardless of status - i'll be happy to talk.
Cheers,
Sitting Bull
I would completly honour my word about trading to Darrell, but whether Yaz will believe that or not... i'm not sure. I have been an bit of an arse to him to say the least.
My reason for offering this deal is solely to get some more trade routes up again. I miss them!
In other news - I will be settling my next city in 2t (would have been 3or 4 without circumnav!) on the island to the south of The Oval.
I have also revolted to Budhism - although - it is only in Lords atm, It will most likely become the AP religon and I plan spending some time in OR soon so can build a couple of missionaries to spread it - would love to get some free spread too! Come on Civ gods!
I plan on revolting to HR - Buerau - Already in Slav - OR.
This will mean that my capital will grow big... With all the food and HR happiness - I plan on using archers or gifting my copper to ruff so I can build warriors - it will be able to run a lot of specialists - most likely from a mixed pool. I don't plan on using caste since slavery is too important on this map script for now. I hope that isn't a 2t revolution... shouldn't be since we are only just into the AD years. Any chirpy lurker who knows is welcome!

Extra turns is driven only by the number of your cities, not game date. It takes 13 cities for an extra turn of anarchy on a standard size map. And on Quick speed even that extra turn will disappear in rounding down.

Thanks T-Hawk
So - Dreylin should have sent me Monarchy for HR and I'll just ping Darrell about CS...
Had a chat with Yaz too - guess I won't be getting my TR's back anytime soon...
I think 80 Days around the world is going to have to sail back around the south of Yaz/Ruff's island to make another route... it might be worth sending a gelley the other way to speed that up - after all - they are 3 movers now!
Here is the chat:
Quote:13:54 me: hey yaz - no worries - I understand
you weren't interested in a cease fire either?
13:55 Yaz: I have nothing to gain from it so no, not at this time
me: No worries
Yaz: When I take out Ruff and Darrell we can talk :P
me: :P
13:56 That would be one hell of a game - I'd love it to get to that!
Yaz: haha it would be amazing yeah. Not going to happen though Just waiting for em to kill me now.
Maces + WE + Cats vs axes and spears just doesn't work
13:57 me: no - it is an up hill struggle
I think you can still make it pretty painful for them though
13:58 Yaz: Well at least one of us thinks so
me: especially with GG's and Cha traits
Yaz: Wasted my first gg and won't have another for a while
me: Did you lurk Pbem1?
Yaz: Only a bit of later half.
13:59 me: Dreylin got very very frustraited with M-H's ability to hang on
i know it was a different age
and game
But it wasn't half inspiring to watch!
Yaz: I'm gong to guess my situation is worse
14:00 But I'll certainly try
Being a newbie to MP though I'm not going to get my hopes up.
me: probably but it will be even cooler when you show em what for then!
14:01 Yaz: True. And then I negotiate with you and demand half your cities :P
me: ha ha - yep!
14:02 If and when you demise, be sure to drop by my thread - there will be a little more information on why I ended up doing what I have.
14:03 good luck - gotta dash to a meeting. cya

Couple of diplo messages sent out his morning:
to Dreylin:
Square Leg Wrote:Hi Dreylinian I,
How's life in the Byzantine lands? I was wondering if you would like to line up a trade for the next round of techs? I am heading towards Feudalism so was wondering what you were contemplating.
I'd be keen on trading for Machinery for example.
There is also a chance that I may be bulbing Philosophy shortly but that depends on what GP I get next. Krill has completed the Pyramids which is what I wanted a GE for. After that I think Optics is going to be an important tech to go for.
Krill's list of wonders is really stacking up now and he has closed borders with me trapping my work boat in his culture... Not the friendliest thing to do... I don't know how long it will take for it to be forced somewhere by a border pop - or where it will go...
Would you be interested in working you way to Guilds to show him what for? I can help you tech there if you like? I really think your cataphracts are going to be the best chance against him.
Any way - this is all a long way off - but worth considering.
All the best,
Sitting Bull of the Native Americans
and to Ruff:
Square Leg Wrote:Hi Luff hi,
Thanks for the gold - It really helps but I will need a little bit more if I am to complete Feudalism at 100% - I can let you know exactly how much when I next get the save - I have had a civics shake up recently also that has changed my expenses. In return for the gold contributions I will be sure to send Feudalism along once it completes.
You'll note that I have gifted the other Dog Soldier this last turn. I didn't want Yaz to spot him and noticed you had garrisoned the other one in Kyoto. No need to give anything away we don't need to!
I would just like to speculate with you for a moment - please keep this between the two of us if you don't mind. It is only speculation.
I get the feeling that the Darrell and Krill relationship is quite close. They have obviously been co-ordinating their wonders well - Darrell getting the GLH and I'm sure THG will follow shortly and Krill mopping up everything else. Krill gifted Darrell his copper during the war with Yaz and Darrell now says that he won't attack Krill in return now. This basically means that the top 2 civs at the moment are allied... not an easy situation for the rest of us.
It basically means that the make up of the world is such that, post Yaz, it is going to be one great big love fest! The one slight out-cast being Dreylin and the clear benefactor being Krill. I am hoping that this will lead to war between them but when that happens I imagine that Darrell will stay on the side of Krill.
Where would you sit should this situation arise? My initial thoughts would be to err on Dreylin's side and support him against Krill. Perhaps that would be our downfall but I feel that his Cataphracts are the best chance to take krill down a peg or two.
Let me know what you think and once again - this is speculation - we have Yaz to deal with first and then probably a time of consolidation.
All the best,
Sitting Bull of the Native Americans

quick chat with Krill:
Quote:11:30 Krill: yo dude
wassup?
11:31 me: Hey
Can't help but notice I have a stranded Work boat..
11:32 Krill: yeah
intended to talk to you about that
just been busy past 3 days, working
me: no probs... How long is the WB gonna be there before your borders pop?
11:33 Krill: well, I was going to offer you OB again
me: Why did you close them?
Krill: until provided you move the wb back south
didn't want him heading east
me: ok - I can do that - if you re open i will head back south
11:34 Krill: ok, will do it next turn
me: cool - congrats on the mids
Krill: The other option, whih I'm not sure if you are interested in, is me buying the work boat
thank you
Not sure if that is hte wonder that you wanted?
Or if you were going for Parth
me: It was on my wish list - yeah
11:35 Krill: ah, ok
me: But with you cleaning up all the wonders no one is safe!

Krill: Just waiting on the dog pile
me: ha ha
11:36 they do paint a target somewhat although everyone else seems busy doing other things at the moment
If I head back south are we going to continue having OB afterwards or do you want to close them?
11:37 Krill: depends on world situation
me: ok - if i am at peace with yaz or not?
Krill: and if Yaz is alive
me: oh yeah
Krill: and if I am getting trade routes with you, which depends on paper
11:38 lots of things
me: so when will you be sending a scout out then?
Krill: well, I have a scout out now
just not sure when I reach you
and Paper is probably sooner
me: where is he/she?
11:39 paper isn't far off
Krill: currently deliberating whether to go north around Yaz and his islands or towards you
11:40 me: I went trhough yaz's capital to get to you - it is the quickest route by far if you can take it.
11:41 If not then both the north and south routes are quite long around yaz and ruff's island - I don't know which is quicker
11:43 Krill: ok, thanks for that heads up
11:46 me: no probs.
11:47 Krill: On a similar note, you research Calendar, right?
me: yep
it is done
11:48 Krill: yeah, missed the -ed on the verb
would you be interested in trading it?
me: what for?
11:49 Krill: up to you
me: ok - I forget what you have recently been up to research-wise...
11:52 Let me check the game when I'm back from work and see what we can come up with - btw - how much would you offer me for the wb?
5 minutes
11:57 Krill: sorry for delay
been setting up a car inspection on the phone.
11:58 the work boat, I'm unsure about
basically, I can't pay in hammers
so it would have to be paid for either by beakers, gold, or resource trades
and hte latter Yaz can stop
11:59 me: what hammer to gold ratio would you use?
they are 30h right?
Krill: 20 haammers for the workboat
and it comes down to marginal utility of the work boat, for how useful it is to me
me: you gone dutch on me?
Krill: my typing is getting worse, actually
not sure why
me: I suffer all the time!
12:00 My plan for the work boat was to scout back the south of Yaz/ruff and so he has a pretty important job to do - if he frees himself from your borders of course!
12:01 Krill: otoh, If paper is close, you could trade for that map from Darrell
me: he ultimately dreams of a life of retirement netting fish though...
yep
Who is teching paper? Darrell?
Krill: other point is, he migh be costing you gold to maintain now
12:02 Darell is doing Music atm
but Paper is probably high on the list of Dreylin
me: but paper afterwards?
Krill: as he has 2 option prerequisites
me: Dunno what Dreylin is up to atm
I need to have a chat with him
Krill: so costs him like 425 base beakers
12:03 me: What do you have to give for calendar?
12:04 Krill: Right now? Nothing, but tbh I'm not really all that interested in it right now
got no calendar resources
thinking more long term
me: fair enough - I seem to have loads of the same calendar resource...
every island i have seen has it...
Krill: Lucky you
12:05 me: yey
12:06 I'm gonna grab some lunch shortly.
Krill: ok
fwiw, I'm currently sitting on machinery
12:07 me: ok - i'll bear that in mind. I'll catch you soon mate
Krill: cya around
most important bit of this whole chat was the last line from Krill - he is teching Machinery!
Ok - so that will undoubtedly go to Darrell for maces...
The tech pace is moving so quickly that units have such a limited shelf life! I am going to only build catapults until the end of the game seeing as they can be used forever!
oh and this just came through too:
Quote:Krill: I'd probably open the negoitiating for hte wb at about 15 gold tbh with you
hmm... TBH - the work boat has served his purpose now but do I really want to sell it to Krill? Probably not. I am paying maintenance for it but I could sell it to Darrell...
Part of me wants to sail him all the way home and get him a nice retirement property netting some fish - place a sign remember him as the fisherman who sailed around the world (almost)
Oh - and tonight I'll post a picture of how to build a settler in 1t!
