Our Strategy....You Probably Haven't Heard of It

oledavy Wrote:As for our tech after banking, I think paper -> education -> liberalism would be the strongest play.

I feel like we'll be strong enough on military for the time being after we have guilds. Knights give us the ability to mount a decent defense and undertake limited offensive action if we so choose. Unless we want to go on offense with musketeers and knights, we don't gain much from getting either tech so early. Team #1 already has a lock on Notre Dame, so the only benefit we get from either tech is strictly military.

I don't agree with this. While Knights do give us a decent defensive option, without Engineering we have nothing against enemy formation Knights (which Speaker will be able to build with CHA Mongolia). I agree that Gunpowder probably isn't necessary in the short term, but I still think Engineering is necessary before paper.

oledavy Wrote:How badly do we want a Great Prophet for a shrine?

Short of getting lucky, the only way I can envision getting one, is through one of two methods:

1. Research music, build a temple (+two more) and a Mandir someone, run 3 specialists.
2. Research philosophy, build Angkor Wat + Temple somewhere, run 4 specialists (boosted by AW).

I'm not too hot on either of these ideas. Plan 1 has us researching a fairly worthless tech. We'll only need music eventually as a pre-req for Mil Trad. For Plan 2, we research/bulb a tech we do want (as a nationalism pre-req), and can build AW with 167 hammers thanks to stone (not including OR or Forge Bonus), but it's a pretty crappy wonder to say the least.

On one hand, I really don't see us getting another religion, so eventually all of our cities will probably be Hindu. On the other hand (assuming we're not lucky), neither option is particularly appealing as we have to research techs which we'll otherwise only want as pre-req's and then build an expensive building just to get the priest slots, which hardly seems worth the effort.

Of the two, I prefer option 1, as Music let's us build culture and Mandir's give +3 happiness with incense and State religion (plus it's not a wonder, no need to race for it). Whether it's worth the cost is another question entirely, I'll have difficulty believing it would be worthwhile.

I'd lean toward trying to get lucky first in the next 2 GPs, and then if we don't get lucky plan from there.

I also agree that we will need Engineering before going to lib.

Hey guys, I have a library completing in Waterloo for turn 125, and one coming in soon after that in May, 1940.

As soon as my GPT with Shoot expires (a short-sighted move on my part in hindsight lol), I think we should switch over to me and Shoot researching and WK funding. One of us would be running full research covered by WK and the other running the highest percentage possible with the WK's leftover gold.

Was just about to say that I have a market completing T123, and I should start funding after that. We may as well switch our roles right now, and you can cancel the gnp gift when you can.

It looks like your expenses combined for T122 are about 81gpt. I currently produce around 60gpt, but once I get markets up I should be pretty close to covering both of you. Once grocers are online then I should be able to support both of you, and definitely after banks.

Well I just founded a new city this turn, so my expenses are now 62gpt. On a related note, I need 15 gold this turn. I noticed in game you said something about getting it from Dave but I wasn't entirely clear on when...anyway feel free to log into India and end turn once the gold thing goes through, I've played everything else for the turn and just need the gold now.

Since I logged into France to aquatint myself with their economic situation, I went ahead and got everyone's demogs as well for a team overview.

France:

India:

Rome:

Positives:

1-3-5 in food
1-2-3 in MFG
1-2-3 in soldiers
1-2-4 in land area

France has done quite well, they've more-or-less managed to catch up to the leaders in all the expansion stats, while India and Rome have maintained their positions at the top of the leaderboard. Awesome. jive

Only downside is GNP at 2-10-12. Obviously Dave and I have some work to do there. Fortunately, once we get Banking in a couple of turns we should be in better shape as both dave and I plan to use the free specialist from merc as a merchant, and Banks are obviously a awesome commerce building. No-one else will have Guilds/Banking for a while as no-one else even has Feudalism, so we'll be the only ones with grocers and Banks. With our lead in the other categories, we should be able to get an increase in GNP in the not too distant future.

I can't remember, did we decide to go for Engineering or Paper after Banking?

Paper. Thought, fwiw, Team #1 now has feudalism and can research guilds, so we may want pikes next. I don't think they'll detour that far and risk losing liberalism, still, it's definitely worth consideration. My vote is still for paper -> education though.

On a related note, what do we want to do with my fourth great person?

I whipped the National Epic to completion in Waterloo, and reworked the micro to give us significantly better odds of getting a GS on the t133 pull. After the t135 great person, I can feasibly pump out an artist, merchant, or scientist sometime between t140-t145.

We could bulb something with each of them (scientist probably the most useful since we get beakers from running it). A scientist could also be used for another academy, though I don't know where else we'd want one. With an artist, we could settle or culture bomb in a front city.

Shoot, WK, how do you feel about your existing/future front cities with Team #1? I'm still uncovering my border with Sulla, but I feel reasonably secure and don't think I'll need one. Culture bombing Hangzhou could also be fun lol

Really depends on if/when I were to settle another front city (the wheat/pigs/tons of hills one). If I settle it soon I don't feel really secure with it; but if I either don't settle it or settle it later (either after engineering or once I get say 5 cats and some knights) I'd feel secure.

If we don't get a prophet, I'd keep the priest just in case we do get one. Otherwise a scientist could be used to bulb philo/Education (more academies aren't worth it) or artist could be used to bomb.

Didn't you say there's a high chance of an engineer being born? If we get that, Sankore or ND may not be bad if they're still available, otherwise I'm not really sure.

My existing one is fine. When I settle the floodplain border I probably won't be initially secure unless I have some Knights or something.
