Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Astronaut without sin confounds press, invites trio to control civilization

Oh, also:

I noticed that someone in pbem21 is doing stars as cities. So I tentatively went for the other version of our theme. Specifically, moons, but maybe we should do anything?

Moons are fine with me.

Should our warrior scout the area around the gold? It would be good to figure out how we're going to claim the gold. Worst case, we might have to settle 1N of the oasis and move our second city to 1W of the lake.

So the warrior scouts S-SE-NE-SE?

Good plan. Except that last SE will have to be E-SE as there's no land S of the Oasis.

About Mackoti's civ pick, I think it's mostly the techs that swayed him. As demonstrated by our own pick and planned opening, Mining/Mysticism aren't as important techs as the others. Furthermore, Mysticism is extra crappy for a creative civ that doesn't need an early religion. Meanwhile Odeons give extra culture which is perhaps useful, and Phalanxes are at least fine against our War Chariots.

Edit: Just realized my fishing guess for Fierce's research makes no sense as he settled off the coast. OK then, I'll re-guess agriculture, but it could be wheel or mining too. He doesn't seem to be doing the established good moves (see his leader pick, and settling in place if these are mirrored starts).

Heh, did wonder about this.

Let's hope we're not sandwiched between Phalanxes and Impis.
And on the sixth day, god created Manchester.

So if Fierce settled in place, why is rival max land area 8000?

Good point. There's no way to settle t0 and get 4f/3h in our start and also have a water tile next to the capital, so they must not be mirrored.

I like the Odeon! Although in MP at least the extra happy is more valuable.

And played T2. We have a nice clams/fish/corn spot up north, the screenshot didn't take though.

Down south:

The tile you've marked as lakeside isn't necessarily so - it's riverside.

Nice! Clams for the gold city, I'd say.

I believe that is a lake because the tile N of the sign is also fresh water.
