Thanks for clarifying Sevenspirits. mackoti, have you made your selection? I've sent in mine.

Now the other players are e.g. less likely to pick France for the first round because it's worse in the tiebreaker, and that gives Scooter an advantage. smoke

Wow yeah, this was a mistake. I didn't at all think about that being a factor. Sorry everyone smoke - we weren't really thinking. We'll try to not do it again and hopefully no one else will do this too - no disclosing picks for each round until everyone has made their choices and started their games.

If you guys think there was a real advantage gained and that bothers you, speak up and we'll do a different era or something which would result in different picks. I actually don't fully understand the tiebreaker rules yet, I'm just going to try to win all my games so I don't have to worry about it lol.

Huh, yeah I haven't been following this tiebreaker crap either. Sorry if we broke some kind of rule?

Having given this some thought - no, you did not break nay rules, so there is no need to apologize.

What you ( and Scooter ) might have done is to put yourself at a slight competitive disadvantage for future rounds, both due to the fact that traits and civs can't repeat ( so it's in theory easier to counterpick you in the future ) and due to the fact that popularity of traits used will break three way tie if any such happens. But if you don't broadcast your picks in the future rounds, it will probably not matter.

And due to this a general announcement - I will not publicly reveal picks for players still in the tournament until the time they drop out. I also request that you do not reveal your opponents picks in that manner until the tournament is over. This is due to the fact that later round pairs would have unfair ability to counterpick that did not exist for the early pairings if the picks we're provided instantly.

Your free to publish your own choices if you wish so though at any moment.

The picks and the trait rarity will be updated live in the lurker thread.

Thanks Mist. We shall all be more careful in the future smile. I still don't fully understand how the tie-breaker works. Is civ/trait "rarity" determined by which ones are picked the most? So each one is assigned a rarity "value" based on how infrequently it's chosen, and then whoever has the highest rarity wins the tie-breaker?

Question- are we allowed to read the spoiler thread of a duel partner after our round has completed (and ceasing once / if another match with the same player occurs), provided that we receive permission? So, in the hypothetical scenario of my duel with scooter, let's say scooter beats me. If he were to permit it, could I then read his thread and contribute my own thoughts as what to occurred in the match? I realize that I could always just create my own thread, but that doesn't allow me to actually engage with my opponent until one of us has left the entire tournament, at which point neither of us may remember much about the battle.
