Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

In General...

Yes, i definitely meant with cultural victories and conquest possible. As to AI competition, I am still working on my first emperor win so... I figure there are still some people around that face some challenge from the ai. smile
If 2 settler start seems better to most people, that is fine too.

As to scoring, I read a report of some old adventure or epic that gave points for keeping other civs alive. I thought that sounded really interesting myself, and would maybe be interesting for this game as well. I would probably expand that to civs alive and independent (not vassals of another civ). I feel like that would maybe set up an interesting dynamic of wanting to conquer to get additional cities, while also having to make sure you don't actually kill off opponents. What do you guys think?

I would be up for trying to get things set up with a map and such if a few people feel interested in the idea.

The comment about AI competing is in a no-settlers FFH game wink

Ah I see. Have yet to try FFH. I figure if I tire of the base game I will try it, but until then, I'm content smile

What do you think of the scoring system proposal?

Maybe mix that with earliest win and a couple other things that all score points? I'm not really that concerned with the competitive aspects myself, more with trying something a bit different from a normal game and getting to see how other people approach the same situation as I do.

Seems a bit gamey tbh. Everyone has to start on the same landmass, and there's no way it would check the player (just kill all but one, saving least cultural/tundra city) just mean policing the AI which doesn't seem particularly interesting in the early game (plus its too luck-driven) and late is tedious anyway...
Still, you'll want to find a map first and foremost.

I (probably) wouldn't play anyway though, so take it with a grain of salt wink

hm, ya, I guess that actually makes sense. Ah well, that's why you get feedback! Anyone else have ideas on scoring mechanisms?

I will try rolling a few maps though and see if they inspire anything.

It would have to be a good map to warrant a RB game.

I'd think you'd be allowed to capture cities too, and maybe cultural takeover. But I'd rather play the word-count based research game myself.

not sure cultural takeover is possible in a game w/ only capitals..

sure it is, dial up a duel map with 18 teams! That's fun, right?

Hmm, is this finally the calling for Ethiopia's unique building?

even still, the city you are trying to capture has had +2 culture from the palace pumping from day 0, and probably has all the same culture buildings you do. so still not likely.

At Sullas site there is a report of him winning by domination via culture, flipping capitals isn't uncommon there. And that's just pre-corporations.
