[SPOILERS]PB34:Burnin' Daylight - DMOC/gsorel/Ichabod

Ok, I've been slagging off on this game in anticipation of this turn.

Here's an overview of our current situation:

SO ... MUCH ... COPPER ...

I'll have the full albums and an Official Proposal Plan Of Action up later, but thought you might want to check things out ASAP.
I've selected The Wheel (ETA T31), but haven't ended turn. I think we know where our hammers are going hammer so I'm not sure we need fishing first.

Please, don't kill Gawdzak. I can't have him devoting all his attention to PB 32. cry

What on earth? That much copper? Well, I suppose it'll be easy for us to get Impis/Axes then (but unfortunately, easy for the opponents!).

Does this mean we are basically set on rushing one of our two neighbors? If anything I'd want to rush Borsche, not Gawdzak.

Gsorel, once you post a more extensive set of updates, I'll post an updated table this weekend with the latest information.

PS: I agree with The Wheel (it was our original third tech to research if I remember correctly and I see no reason to switch from that).

We'd need fishing for a WB in a city 4W of the Capital (or a city to the east, too, if that's the decision). Not sure if we can finish both fishing and wheel by the time the city is settled and I'd guess WB is the first production from that city.

OK - I did have time to muck around a little. I logged back in and ended turn: fishing is only six turn tech and in all cases we want the wheel immediately afterward so there is no harm in investing a turn in to the wheel.

I figure we really do have to make a major choice in how to proceed:

  1. Settle west
  2. Settle east - balanced aggression
  3. Settle east - fastest aggression

I suggest we are more likely to "rush" Borsche since the fastest play would be to settle on copper - ie settle east. Also the geography around Borsche's capital is more favourable.

The options are in order from least to greatest cost.

I had time to play through the second option, and it is definitely viable (aggression and the potential to disable Borsche at a reasonable cost) but there's still work to do.

My plan today is to to go through DMOC's work in detail and post my best go at each of the three options.

OK...

step 1: get the turns posted for reference:

T20, T21, T22, T23

step 2: start an album just for scores, to make DMOC's life a bit easier. I'm sure civstats will be easier, but good to have a backup.

Scores

step 3: some comments on DMOC's work

Note that tech costs scale with map size/difficulty:

61 Fishing, Archery
77 Mysticism, Mining
92 Agri, Hunting, The Wheel
123 Pottery
154 Animal Husbandry
184 Bronze Working

Here is a link that explains scoring:

http://www.dos486.com/civ4/index/score.shtml

Quote:1. I'm not sure what Elkad is doing. On 3160 BC (turn 21) he got +4 points, presumably from culture/land ownership. But that

means his capital is still at size 1, right? The +4 also might suggest he settled in a high-water region. Perhaps he went

Fishing and went Worker -> Workboat or something?

You can see from T2 demos

that Elkad started with 6 land tiles around his cap. Two worker start at size 1?

Quote:2. I'm confused about pindicator's score increases. He got +6 on turn 22, and then +9 on turn 23. He's Creative, so on turn 23

he would get some extra land point ownerships. The other alternative is that on turn 23, his capital grew to size 3 but that

only takes +1 point... oh well, I can probably backtrack in a few turns once all the non-Creative leaders get score increases.

Note: pindicator has the only Creative leader in this game.

The +9 is from land: 12*2000/2663 ~ 9.01

Quote:3. I don't get how OT4E got 2 extra points on turn 23. Did his capital get to size four already?!? Is there a city in the top 5 list that is size 4?

I'll check next time I'm in game - but OT4E is expansive. Growing on T23 would be consistent with the start I sketched here.

step 4: play through a few options

done, but still need to post screenshots. I really think going east will be better.

I can, however, post the T25 save here.
T25 is the turn we have to decide between the Wheel and Fishing.

Thanks, I'll look at this after work and provide comments. (I'll also try logging into the game again ... still haven't gotten that to happen! banghead )

Thanks about the tech costs. I mainly wanted to know the scale of tech costs, not necessarily their raw values (e.g., tech X costs 20% more than tech Y) but the raw values are also good to know.

Don't worry about the scores, you don't have to do that -- I can check CivStats every few days and all the information should be there. Though admittedly, the scores would be useful for a full history and not just the previous 20-ish turns. Eventually I'm not going to be updating that table with the same information above. I plan to have a table only for cities being founded, which is much easier to track. I might be able to keep track of more detailed information for just Borsche and Gawdzak, which might be a good thing to do ...

In other news, it looks like Borsche is close to missing a fourth turn. Someone will pause but I think we should encourage him to get a teammate.

I updated the table in my previous post with pindicator and OT4E changes.

The best presentation I've found for understanding the score formulae is T-Hawk's site.
