I am having a good time so far, and I hope you are too.
Mr. Cairo
Sure thing.
How about a screenshot with zoom maxed out, culture on, resource bubbles off, and tech/city bar censored?
It would thus show the explored area, the shape of the land mass, and the lay of the land.
Going on from post #87, I checked if there was a way to improve output growing to size 5 (100 food instead of 72), but I can't find any cause
1) need a 2nd workboat to have another good food tile or to mine the third hill (that's a 4t delay on second chop) before the 5th dude becomes helpfull
2) need a third warrior to get the 5th happy face in the capital (at size 4, both warriors can move to scout/fogbust waiting for the settlers to come in position)
---
on the size 4 scenario, I can prolly improve things since I can work a mine 3 turns without slowing down growth (72 food needed to get to size 4, minus 9 which are in the food bar when the pig pasture is up, that makes 63 to get at max +6 food/turn (if I get the wb before the first warrior, I need to do fishing before BW so the boat doesn't go idle, which delays the first chop, and worst case scenario, if I get a forest growth on the hill, good in theory, it's a nightmare because worker would go idle doing nothing waiting for BW, not counting that I loose one turn to BW due to rounding))
Going for 3 warriors, 3 mines (skipping the wb) doesnt' give better results, because again the 4 turns lost mining the hill, and WBs are cheap since we are expansive. It gives worst commerce though.
There are so many intricacies in the opening turns so I can't say without having played. But based on previous experience I'd think size 3 or 4 capital is the way to go, and then finding the opportune turn to swap to slavery. Could be before the first settler or it could be after, IDK.
You're saying that you're getting warriors? I'd have thought the best is to get maybe 1 extra scout and then simply make workers/work boats/settlers. You don't need warrior for the early game.
Instead of worker - warrior - work boat that you suggested I'd just go worker - work boat. If you really need the escort you can go worker - scout - work boat, but I don't see why this is necessary.
I also noticed that you chopped most of the "wonder forests". It's possible that we find a different location for Oracle/SH, but the site south of capital is the spot as of right now and it needs all the forests. Think of it this way; the more forests you save the later you can afford to start on the wonder and prioritize expansion instead.
OK I will do some more tests without warriors (I won't tell you that I've already done some and got a settler eaten by a lion I won't speak about this nor post about it... I have my pride)
How do you send screenies via PMs? I don't get the option to upload files. And the screenshot insert button looks broken... any tip?
Below is what I am willing to send to Mr. Cairo (he agreed my terms):
edit: and yeah, agreed about wonder forests... part of why I am going back and forth with the micro. I just haven't found something which feels decent without chopping everything. I hate seafood starts...
Mr. Cairo Wrote:I don't know if this is what you mean by tech/city bar censored, but if you pless "alt-i" it removes the interface (still have city bar though) and "alt-f" makes the camera look straight down. Also, if you haven't already, look up how to activate "flying camera mode" which lets you zoom out as much as you like without those clouds appearing, which will probably be very useful as screenshots get larger. I can't remember exactly how it's done, something to do with the .ini file I think, it's been a while since I turned it on.
Tx for the info I haven't used the "flying camera mode" since BUG/BUFFY came out (been a while ) since iirc there is a zoom setting (the slider in the upper right corner of the screen) you can use to simulate its behaviour.
Mr. Cairo Wrote:Also, after thinking about it for a while, I should probably tell you (since it's obvious that you've moved your scout in a straight line towards me) that my scout has been moving in a circle around my capital. I don't know if that information maybe affects your decision to exchange screenshots.
If you mean I wouldn't get as much info as you would, I am OK with it. I think we can both leverage early and constructive friendship and collaboration, so I am eager to do that (as opposed to early skirmishes )!
Mr. Cairo Wrote:But, all that being said, I'm happy with the terms you've laid out.
Mr. Cairo
Great!
I cannot log in to the game (server looks down) so here is the screenie I've done this morning. I am not skilled in image modification so spare me

I may be mistaken, but you should be able to integrate screenshots in PMs the same way you integrated them in your post.
