PBEM #1 - Saladin [Spoilers]

OK...and we're finally playing again, albeit very slowly.

So what's happened:

I got CS, Machinery, Paper and 20 Gold for Feudalism. I've also self-teched literature. I am now onto Guilds. I founded my 5th city Najrah?. Gets a rice and gold. I'll have a couple workers chop out a granary and library and it should be up and running pretty quickly. Traded maps with MH and Ruff I believe. Asked for a map trade with Soooo. Apart from that will be building some more settlers/workers soon just gotta figure out where/when.

And returned from vacation.

Not much has changed. Farming the rice at Najrah and moved a worker to chop the forest N of Najrah. Apart from that no change. Oh built an academy at Mecca, 6 turns left on guilds after ending turn.

Forge has completed at Mecca. Going to get teh sugar hooked up now. Built a 1 turn longbow and will probably spew forth a few of those over the next little while. Not much else going on...

Not a lot has changed since the last picture. My rice has been farmed at Najrah and the chop came in this turn. I have approx 4 turns left of Guilds. I'm producing longbows at Mecca while growing. The 2 changes I've made in terms of MM are:

Baghdad switched from Shwed Paya as my gold is currently lent out to MH. I'll have a second one up and running soon probably about the same time he gets his up. I'm now building a barracks at Baghadad (3 turns to complete) and will then construct a stables, finish Shwed then unit produce like mad.

Medina was stagnant at size 6 while completing a courthouse with 2 hired sci's. I've fired the sci's and am now working a cottaged floodplain and a mined grasshill. I will grow in 5 along with a build of a buddhist monastery in 5. From there I shall spread buddhism asap.

I plan on adopting slavery and buddhism next turn and whipping the granary at Najrah. I've got to get a worker down to Zapotec asap. Mecca is going to mass produce army for a bit sneaking in a settler/worker every now and then.

Well not a whole lot happened this last turn. Swapped to slavery, org religion and accepted buddhism as my state religion. Only Medina and Baghdad have that but that should soon change. I whipped the granary in Najrah and am now going to hook up the gold and start some cottages. Najrah will build a madrassa next. There's a also a barb warrior down by zapotec that will get cleaned up soon.

mecca onto a settler (2 turns)...Najrah onto a courthouse...Research dialed down to 0 to get some gold. Will go back to 100 next turn...should be enough to finish guilds in 2.

OK so after a little tile MM I dialed research back up to 100% and got guilds in 1 (so I now have after hitting end turn). As well my settler (@ Mecca)completed after ending turn. I have 2 barb warriors down south which I plan on eliminating with an HA who currently has 7/2 xp. Hopefully those 2 barbs will be enough to get him to 10 to unlock the HE. Schwed Paya will be completed in 2 turns I believe. Currently I have 6ep/t split evenly between dreylin & Ruff. Atm I believe both can see my demogs but I'm hoping I can stop that.

@ Lurkers - Does anybody know how far away you have to pull in ep's before soembody cna stop seeing your demogs?

I'll post ful picture updates after I've settled my next city. Oh it will be going south to grab Gems and Iron.

I believe from this thread that to see demogs, you need 0.3 * (100 + their EP vs. you). That's why 43 is the equilibrium number since 43 = 0.3 * (100 + 43)

Also as for your 10xp HA, you'll probably not want to promote your HA, since the easier the battle, the less XP. I'm not sure where the cutoff is between 1 and 2 xp.

regoarrarr is correct for the "you can see them" formula. Reversing it to the "they can't see you" case gives YourEP > (TheirEP * 10/3) - 100. So note that running EP to avoid demographics visibility is generally a losing proposition, and definitely so against more than one opponent. For every 10 EP you spend against them, they only need to spend 3 EP to keep up.

The cutoff is a strength ratio of greater than 2:1, which will mean only 1 XP earned. Win chance and strength ratio don't precisely correlate because of first strikes and prior damage. Generally there's a win chance somewhere between 98% and 99% above which you'll only get 1 XP.

in 470AD I could begin building CA's even though Iron isn't hooked up??? I was under the impression I needed iron...regardless my settler is on the move and is now in baghdad. It will be at city site next turn and found the turn after. I landed Shwedagon Paya after hitting end turn smile. My HA is now 8/2xp after killing a barb warrior and will probably not reach the other one in time. the HA currently acting as MP in Zapotec will probably kill it....oh well. Other than that not much going on. Oh got alphabet from Soooo for guilds and will get education from him when that gets in. Mecca is on a 1 turn worker now.

Expect a full update in 2 turns.
