So I made my offer:

But it's too late, because things just got scarier.

Mist is not messing around, and he now has numerical superiority in the region.

I'm thinking I will declare war on him next turn, if he doesn't do it himself.

This probably isn't a terribly good idea. Hopefully I get more time to stew on the situation before the turn rolls.

So if he's not lying, it sounds like the gold site is a first ring city for Mist...

What do you think Injera, is that site worth going to war?

I don't know. If it were me I don't think I would, but that has more to do with my nature than any sort of in-game reason.

My impulse is to go for it and declare war next turn. It's pretty obvious we need to clear Mist out to settle that city. Once the city is settled, I'm pretty sure we can hold it - it's in such an incredibly difficult spot to attack. Mist has every right to be incredulous here; we're settling right in his backyard. However, settling there secures us a large chunk of land, get's us two copies of the best luxury resource in the game that we don't have any native sources of, and gives us an extremely easy front to defend.

The other long-term concern is that conceding the south to Mist bottles our planned artillery spam up behind two mountain passes, and will make it very difficult to break out. The problem is I don't necessarily see a positive exit strategy for us here. Mist may make this into a Holy War and fight until he's dead, or we are; and the only person that benefits from that is Seven. In that case, he has interior lines, and a UU about to come online. He'll be a tough opponent to beat.

Next time my instincts are screaming at me to declare war and attack someone, I'm going to listen.

Any developments? Were you able to at least get your archers back?

Edit: I just read the Denouncement thread- did waterbat get eliminated? Wow...

I did have a very long update written earlier, but lost it when my computer crashed on me frown I intend to re-type it tomorrow whenever I have time, and will make it into a t45-t50 roundup. The highlights:

- We made peace with Mist and are now playing nice.
- We settled a fourth city north of the original Thermopylae location.
- Civil Service is almost complete.

Waterbat did not get eliminated, his tenure as sub for Fire&Ice is over. However, America is decidedly not in good shape at this juncture in the game, last in score by a huge margin.

I'm Still Here!

Chichen Itza is nearing completition in Auropolis, sped up by a chop and the Representation Golden Age. Fingers crossed we get it. After that it is the Oracle, then National College, then expansion. Within the next 20 turns, I'll be rushing the Hagia Sophia, Porcelain Tower, and Notre Dame, finishing my tech beeline with education. With all these wonders and the Piety policies in place, I'll be in a good position to rapidly expand into my remaining six city locations and dominate the midgame.

After researching Education, my research target is Dynamite, do not pass go, do not collect $200. If I manage my great people right, I think I can start fielding artillery around t125. It's going to be touch and go though. For me, this is uncharted territory.

In the south, Mist settled the city of Cherokee upon the original location for Thermopylae, he also bought one of the desert hill tiles, suggesting there is iron on it (most likely a major source). He upgraded a pair of his warriors to Mohawk Warriors and is now flashing them at me. I'm in the process of withdrawing my archers into my territory, to defend the passes from any aggression from Mist. I am sending a scout and trireme to explore west of Mist and hopefully hook me up with more trading partners for my gold and sugar. Meeting more than one city state would also be nice.

Seven has leveraged the Aztec UA into a commanding early game position. His nearest neighbor, Yuris, is stuck between him and belligerent Americans in the south - as near as I can figure it from the Denouncement Thread anyway. If they don't get their act together, Seven may roll them and win this game at a stroll. Here's hoping that's not the case.

At any rate, just wanted to provide a quick update to assure people I haven't forgotten this game lol It's a little too interesting for me not to update - I just haven't had the time recently to give it the write-up it deserves. This week has just been really busy for me, between an increasingly hectic academic schedule and PB6, which are getting the majority of my attention right now. At any rate, we should be back to our usually scheduled programming sometime this weekend.

All the eyes are on PB6 now anyway. smile

If I'm reading this right, the free great person from policies didn't come in time to rush Chichen Itza, so you're saving it for Hagia > free engineer > PT?
