Heh, 15 was for me a lesson on how tight maps need to be AW or not tight. tongue

But I think WilliamLP is on it. If, say, mackoti was dropped in for Zanth this would be dead in a couple turns.

After reading gavagai thread i can say i understand him, this is the way he plays civ : atacking evryone which might be dangerous.keeps everyone building units and game has tech pace so slow.

Gavangi's perspective on human relations is certainly unique. I'm not sure I would consider someone who razed several of my core cities completely unprovoked a "natural ally", but perhaps G has more of a tolerance for such things. Except he throws a fit when people retaliate for stabbing literally every one of his neighbors, so nevermind.

Yeah. Even in Gav-terms of "gotta kill the tallest poppy", Furungy's assault simply makes good sense. Hum is looking very good here, gotta say. popcorn

Hum is looking very good here... by virtue of being geographically the furthest from Gavagai and Bacchus. rolf

This is why we love Alae 1:

Nijmegen remained free for the taking with only a rifleman and two bowmen against 10 or so infantry, but it ultimately seemed like a waste of resource that should be used against Gavagai.

Meanwhile, Gavagai is thoroughly pounding Zanth. Now I could have just conquered Zanth's big core cities, but it would be more amusing to help Zanth against Gavagai. I am sending my SoD with over 20 infantry and 7 cannons to the eastern front to help my neighbour against Gavagai's imperialism.
They don't just stand there, they do something. The standard, and more successful, response of "take advantage to improve my position" is eschewed for the thrill of "gotta kneecap the bloke ahead". It's why global GNP has gone *down* over time. It's actually how my wife, our friends, and I play Dominion or Catan or (heaven help me) Saboteur. Hell of a fun ride.

the frantic doing of things may be at an end. Gavagai has offered a draw to Hum... no response from Hum yet, but Furj reported same in his thread. One thing we know: when endgame discussion starts, the game ends.

Well played, all!

Bacchus said he accepted.

Indeed, a good and very entertaining game by all!

Indeed! Sorry for the intensive navel-gazing early in the thread; you guys gave a hell of a show.

Not sure if it's mentioned anywhere - I couldn't find it on a quick search - but is there some significance or explanation behind the title of "Alae"?
