I made some calculations and the fish will be in Thales's culture in 7t. If I start with a WB I'll have some time to waste. Well I could use it to scout a little but a warrior can do that too. And I need to regrow before building a worker or settler. I'll make a mental sim (or maybe even a paper sim) to investigate a WB->worker->warrior->settler possibility.
Edit : oh and yeah the worker is going to road the forest hill then mine the copper then camp the ivory.

The main problem with the WB first strategy is that the cap becomes unhappy at size 3 due to the settler whip + lack of MP. My warrior->WB strategy loses a turn on hooking the western fish so city 2 is slower to set up but at least the cap is never unhappy.

I see... Happiness is of course enough reason for the warrior.

Hmmm Retep has had the turn for 2 days now, if he hasn't played by tonight I'm requesting a teammate for him.
I've had some thoughts about the game : we have nothing to fear from an impi rush because we'll be spamming phalanxes, but a joint HA/impi attack could take us unaware if we only have phalanxes for defense. So while it will be tempting to build only phalanxes (great against joint impi/chariot attacks) I'll try to get a few spears out just in case. Not right now of course, but I'll have to keep it in mind.

Ok so small update to say that Thales was founded last turn and is building a warrior. I scouted the west a little and it looks pretty great. Also, horses.

I put down some x signs this turn, for future city sites. I suggest you take a look at the turn when it comes back tomorrow so you can agree/disagree.

sorry I've been (and probably will stay) rather little invested. I'll let the screenshot do the talking, he mostly just agrees with you :

Thales is starting a granary next turn. Unfortunately the cap is busy getting a worker and settler out so no granary right away.
I pretty much agree with you. I'm sending a warrior S to check the ivory region, and the warrior just getting out of Thales will go east to look at the copper region. With 5t border pops I'm not concerned with first ring or second ring stuff, so I might decide to go gold->horse/dye/gems/rice->sheep/fish/clam/gems/rice. But what I want to keep in mind is that the rice and spice in the west and the gems and dyes in the east are jungled, and IW is not a big tech priority IMO. I want writing, maths, sailing, masonry (for the great lighthouse) and possibly even construction/currency/calendar before it. And why not MC too for the colossus (goes well with fin). So first is the gold/ivory/FP site (for the happiness), then we'll see. The western site will bring a huge distance maintenance with it I think, and is after all just a clam/hill pig city until IW and calendar.

imo Colossus is the one wonder we really want, also it's good to get forges early, even if we're not IND. Of course writing before. Have you considered oracling that way? We have 3/4 Cre leaders, so possibly there's little competition on the religious line (and religion happiness might even be helpful with all the food we're eating, although I admit we'd probably would not want to revolt anytime soon)
I see your points about jungle, also forgot that due to quick speed border pops are really fast. So that leaves us with the desert spot or the northeastern for third city? Have you got something to scout the east before the settler comes out?

Well all the future cities except the desert gold one are coastal, so if there are any islands on the map the GLH is good too. There are 7 forests reacheable by Thebes, and about as much by the southeastern site. Also the Colossus needs a forge. I think Maths first is best, then maybe sailing->masonry (GLH) ->MC (Colossus) would be ok (no need for currency to up the economy with those two wonders). But I'm getting ahead of myself here, there's plenty of time.
Do you notice how fast the techs go ? Fin is only giving us 1c for now, but overall we're working 8c (3+1 for the coast, 1 for the cow 1 for the dye and 2 for the caps) plus 2c from the TRs. I'm sure our oponents have less research capacity than us right now, I want to use that to snowball (well that plus the new production edge from the copper mine).
Sian doesn't need the religious part of the tree that much either, he's agg Zulu he has an other way to get culture.
Two things now : happiness won't be a problem, we're getting ivory in a few turns and gold soon too. We also have a UB that gives 2 happy. And possibly early MC for forges (gold+jungle gems nearby). And secondly there will be a warrior around the NE site by the time the settler comes. In any case I want the gold site with a library soon to make it our early research center (four fin floodplain cottages and a gold, yum).
