Also, I have to give props to the color guy. He's dead right about Missouri's three man front. It just isn't going to work. He's been good on analysis this game. I guess he tanks the regular season and stays sober for the big game. Wait, that sounds like UGA. Hmmmm...

Maybe it's a case of confirmation bias, but every ball bounces Auburn's way. Literally, the way the ball bounces. I just watched an Auburn punt land inside the 1 and pop back for an easy touch (overturned by a penalty). Earlier, a kickoff went through the endzone and incredibly, improbably, hit the crossbar and bounced back into play with a hard drive into the ground and then an easy popup into the hands of the Auburn kicking team who would have waltzed into the endzone with the ball in an easy catching position. Of course, this is an out of bounds kick and dead ball situation, and thus no reason to comment, except that I think Teenage Jesus is an Auburn fan and doesn't understand the rules of the game. For reference:
This is obviously an Auburn family, except for Chip (sire to the 94/100 ass-rating wife) who is clearly an Alabama fan. Is it a coincidence that Talladega is close to Auburn? Brick, these are your people. I hope they win tonight.
Ok, lol, wtf...
I count 27 cities (and grumble... 27 cities? Seriously? Who has room for that many cities??? Oh, yeah, fuck this map) and 53 pop? 53? ![]() That's a painful number of whips for anyone, even someone who has 27 (seriously, 27?) cities. That smacks of infantry drafts/whips to me. As much as I hate this game, I'm going to log in and check the tech situation to see what I can see. Retep hasn't ended turn so I'll try to log in and see what's up with a scouting unit. fake edit: Kuro is logged in and I'm blocked. Yet another reason to kill that guy. Xenu, check back later if you can.
I don't want anyone to think I'm not impressed with how retep has played, btw. I think he's played a very good game with the hand he was dealt. If I'm giving report cards here, he grades out higher than our sorrier team, even after norming for civ/map/etc. He's played a very strong game IMO.
Logged in, nothing is showing in retep's island city that we can see into with The Watchman (sentry phract). That one must have been a whip. If he went in order cycling through cities starting with the capital (that's the normal/habitual way to do it) then that was a 2 pop whip. If it was a draft we'd have seen the unit in the city, unless he immediately moved the unit out onto a boat, which he could have done. So, basically, we can log in as soon as the turn rolls and see if an infantry is in the city before he logs in, or we can just culture farm away and not worry about it.
I'm going to offer an even diplo trade just so he'll know we're paying attention to him. Not that it matters. I mean, once you've whipped/drafted 27 cities, that's as much of an all-in declaration as I can think of.
Drafting and whipping can be done on the same turn. 23!
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
T217 - I guess I may as well play the turn. To settle the question of whether four of the point losses for Retep were drafts or whips, they were all whips because he isn't in nationhood and didn't swap civics out of it this turn. So no, those are all whips. Retep has over 40 cities, he can spare the population. For the record his civics are US (rush buy), bureaucracy (wtf?), slavery (rush build), state property (only civic possible with that many cities), and OR (lots of new cities, surely they all need some infrastructure). The only question is why he's still in bureaucracy with an empire that wide. He should be drafting the max number of infantry every turn just because he has an inexhaustible number of cities to draft from.
Anyway, my guess is that the bloodletting from this turn is whipping in factories all over the place. Retep finally killed his Great Lighthouse by researching Corporation prior to Assembly Line. I can tell he finished AL because he can tech Fascism now. So it looks to me like he's going to be happy to play this game out and make us all play while he launches his spaceship. And with so many coastal cities with good production he'll build an unsinkable navy of metal ships so no one can assault his capital, and win that way. For him I'm sure that's the path of least resistance, the quickest turns he can play. But it's dragging the game on for the rest of us. If he'd just build a giant army and start destroying us (gobble more land) or whack one of his only two competitors (William or Wetbandit) I'm sure he could get a concession and put a bullet in this game already.... To this turn, we got a Great Engineer this turn. He can give us 1478 beakers toward Replaceable Parts, or Boldly can figure out what he would be able to bulb next because I'm not going to. As an IND civ using him to rush a wonder would be kinda dumb, especially since the only wonder we can build now is Chicken Pizza. Maybe if we thought we'd want to burn him on the Sistine Chapel? Meh. Going to hit spacebar with him this turn after moving him to an undisclosed location for safe keeping. Cruised through the cities kinda quickly, the game was lagging a bit and as I was wrapping things up Sunrise hit me on chat in game letting me know he needed to restart the server, so that's fine. Saves me from myself and with pointlessly tinkering in game. Photos and then let's not think about this game again until tomorrow, mkay? No better place for this turn so Happy Face is configured for hammers this turn and is failing Chichen Itza. Will find a better place next turn if there is one, but now that we care about spending hammers on religious infrastructure maybe it'll stay there a while. Dunno or care. The tech situation, aka, how Retep is going for the science win. Demographics, just look at our baller economy at 100% science. Will finish Replaceable Parts in 2 turns and save up again for Rifling. Then Music, Sistine, and that other hullabaloo, or die, or concede. No map shot this turn but really do you guys need it anymore? Civstats shows the score and nothing changes from turn to turn except for our worker swarm looking harder and harder for tiles to improve. We're down to improving tiles outside BFCs now. And building roads in Oxy/William's land because why not. Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon |

Xenu, check back later if you can.
