Nice to get some personal thoughts about life overall in a Civ 4 thread! Especially ones that make you feel them.

David Graeber wrote a book (though an article previously) about work called Bullshit Jobs. While the bullshit aspect might not be of the most importance to you, it explores what work is and how we look at it. Especially the point about how work dominates our lives, makes us judge people that or other way and drives our political-economical systems, obviously how all of it deprives us of freedom and joy.
Yeah, I'm not happy about my past behaviour either. shakehead

Glad you guys like my ramble, we'll see if I do more rambling as we go.

Haven't updated in 2 turns, but its going chalk.

Buddhism EOT9

And exploration still leaves me with no neighbors.

I'm getting worried I missed something or someone's scout. Also I'm not sure about this west, is there no connecting land? I was planning on sending a warrior before settlers to clean up my scouting so I'll have to deal with incomplete map knowledge. I guess it still is only turn 10.

ETA: You guys think I should scout North first or head east?

Hey I met someone!

That's Bob and his worker building a camp on some deer. That is... closer than I thought! The gold site is across the water but pretty close to his capital. I think I'm going to have to expand as quickly as I can.

Being next to Bob though is good I think. I can out expand him with IMP and I think I might be able to push him. It does make me wonder how close and who is SE of me. Let's take advantage of IMP.

ETA: next move to the hill or the forest south but on Bob's border?

So this turn Bob's scout found my cap and I found his. Basically we travelled in a circle in opposite directions it looks like. So the center ocean is more of a great lake and Bob and I are on opposite sides. I think I may be luckier here as I am on the north edge and I might have less neighbors than Bob. Still I need to expand asap and grab as much land as possible. The strategy hasn't changed, but the willing ness to attack Bob if Bob ends up attacked by someone else at the same time may have increased.

Scouting Bob some more.

Lakeside clams! He really would have been the true Spain on a lake candidate. I"m technically 1 off off my lake.

I think he might settle the PH south of that dye. That would put my gold city crabs in his second ring. Culture wars will be fierce.

Also Bob has dyes while I had silks, though he also has a sugar there. Am I supposed to have gold while he has silver? I'm going to try and deny him those.

Worker finished EOT, I've started Hunting with mining done.

Also it looks like I will not be able to get vision on his capital. Map maker decision? He won't be able to get vision on mine either.

Sorry for not responding to the scouting advice request - was away and even if I wasn't, I'm map spoiled so I can't.
