[SPOILERS-PBEM15] Jkaen is Hannibal of Zululand

Ok, so its not changed that much, and I guess there is an argument for overlapping more, we will see what SL can come up with

Next settler is going to A, already have a warrior standing guard, after the worker villages the spot shared between Styles and Brussels tempted to village the tile shared between Brussels and A

Torn between B and C as the next city, but leaning towards C to grab the spot before TT does. Fingers crossed I can get some Impi over there by then to stare down any scouting units. Dont consider it a pink dot, as its 7 tiles from my capital, 9 from his

B would go after that.

4th city I am actually tempted by F. The land is rubbish, but its on a hill flanked by mountains and lakes and is right on what I consider the front line

Would be tempted to delay closing the line off by then going E, D, then depending on what I scout I,G,H
Reply

Decided F is a bit stranded if I leave it alone too long, so maybe D then E is better

Well, had a chat with SL about the settling plan, and now I know how to bring them up, here is the chat log

tickletoleg: Just posting a dot map for your consideration.
me: cool, I guess you crammed in more cities thanme?
tickletoleg: maybe - I'll post it now and we can discuss here if you like?
me: sure
tickletoleg: ok pic up
to start - I'm not saying it is necessarily better than yours - just different
I think we both agree on A and B yes?
me: yes A and B are pretty fixed
tickletoleg: and c
me: You have C in the same spot too
tickletoleg: just noticed!
I have moved D (on mine)
the reason being that it is a nice defensive location that can share the FP cottages with B
It also gets the gems, wine and incence
The little yellow crosses are shared cottages
the mountain to the NW provides excellent cover
me: I agree your D is stronger, but is it stronger than D+B from mine
tickletoleg: if it is in our borders it will give us really good sight over TT's lands
That is the question.
I don't know
you can still settle your B on my dot map
I just haven't put it on - just noticed!
I think you will struggle to found anything much closer to TT as he will already have settled it by the time you get there
me: The other comparison is my F and your E. I placed F to block off TT and let us expand east. If we are not expanding that way then E is better, and obviously has food F doesnt
tickletoleg: I feel your F is too exposed to attack and may get founded already by TT by the time we get there
This is MP and TT won't hessitate to attack you if you go planting all upside his face
me: I agree F is agressive
I am willing to agree it certinly cant be planted there before D, as I am more convinced that it would not get the support
tickletoleg: for sure
I would settle either D or B next
on my dot map not yours - should have used the same letters! smile
then C
me: why d rather than c?
tickletoleg: depends on when IW comes in
D can do more without IW
me: If I settle B first, ironworking will be ready for the 2nd settle
tickletoleg: I which case you could go B,C,D
It is a shame there is all that awful desert around the stone...
me: yup. looking at your D I lose desert mountain and 3 lake tiles and get a plain and lots of shares
tickletoleg: I gree that the loss of the lake tiles isn't great
It is a shame you can't settle on the Oasis...
You know - collosus wouldn't be a bad wonder for you
me: was thinking the same when looking at techs a turn or 2 back
tickletoleg: how does this sound to you: Mov D
oops
me: Just another idea, not 100% convinced on, but what do you think about moving your D 1SE and founding a city 1S of the mountain between C and D?
tickletoleg: Hmm...
It could work.
you can't found the old B 1E of the clams then though
me: no, it would pretty much mean you would have to go with your E not my F
use the clams for that city and forget about my b
your E also acts as a ship bridge
Looking at how TT should play, before he goes anywhere near my sites, he will found ivory/horses and cow/dye/clam
maybe also backfil to cow/clam/rice
tickletoleg: You should beat him to C so he can't nick that rice
me: cow/clam/rice is due west of his capital
I have a shot of TTs lands a bit more zoomed in in a recent post
tickletoleg: ah ok
me: I see 3 or 4 sites he should found before going near me... almost makes me think F is doable again (would still annoy him though)
tickletoleg: it will definitely piss him off
2:03 PM Another site we could try and claim would be 1E of the dye just north of C
me: The other thing I have not been considering is when my economy will collapse
tickletoleg: The trouble is that TT will culturally press all the good tiles
Wat game difficulty is it on?
me: I forget right now
If we move C up E of the dye the dot map becomes a nightmare lower down
tickletoleg: yeah - i was just doing it in paint
it doesn't work very well....
I think that we can safely say that the next 2 sites should be B then C. The position of D needs some work but we have a little time
me: yup agree with that
at what point would you settle A, only after our whole front line of cities is founded (inc e?)
tickletoleg: I would consider doing it after we get B,C and D down. Maybe about the same time D? (the furs city right?
me: yup
tickletoleg: It will be a useful site so we shouldn't put it off too long if we can help it
I'm going to get some lunch now - catch you later
me: k, thanks for the help

The summary is that I will settle B then C (using his letters), then try to work out where is best for D (a new location is also discussed in the chat if you skipped it)

Ok, here is the dotmap as discussed in the chat (I have now saved the cities as seperate layers, so hopefully doing these will be quicker now)

To confuse everybody I have changed the lettering scheme once again, this time in roughly the order I am thinking of settling them

C in this should be a monster commerce city once it gets going, so tempted to make that the science city rather than brussels

Looking at terrain yields, I am thinking about cottaging all but 1 of the wines (probably the one W of the sheep). Thoughts?

Don't forget that the winery provides 1 extra food too and that you cannot trade them if they aren't connected.

Well, the plan was to grow doing wbs, granarys etc and whip workers and settlers, but I decided to speed things up again and single pop whipped both my older cities

I think both the seafood and the granary should help speed things up, so I should come out ahead with this

Espionage with TT is now 76-36, so it should not be that long until I get tech visibility on him. I guess that may also mean he doesnt get my graphs?

Religions are 13% and 6% spread. is that based on number of cities, size of cities or population numbers?

Demo

religion is based on pop numbers.

do you need me to play the next turn or will you be able to grab it?

Was the granary only a 1pop whip??
Reply

Both cities were only 1 pop whips.

I dont have the save this morning, which means you are now up, thanks

My thoughts are:

Brussels - whip overflow into settler, then switch to waiting warrior to grow, then back to settler and whip to complete

Styles - current WB for its own crabs, then another to head east to let it grow before whipping worker

Windsor - Granary then Ikhanda ready to start rolling out troops

West worker - complete cottage, then move 1E of wine and cottage there to share between new city (Northumberland) and Brussels

East worker, finish that road then get copper online

I will trust you to use your own judgement in deviating from the above where you think best
