Ugh, now this is a case where blockades should definitely be allowed. Gaspadore control the seas, and unless Sian is willing to risk his ships to fight off the blockade, he isn't entitled to the strategic resources form his colonies.
Dropping the blockade range to 3x3 is probably balanced.
Of course, this would have been rendered moot had Sian roaded the home island's iron tile!

Gaspadore would have pillaged it by now anyway.
Blockades are an accurate historic aspect of the sim, it is unfortunate that RB mostly bans them. There's an active thread in the general forum on just this topic, so I'll stop there.

and maybe talks could start going badly soon
what turn does the NAP end on? let's say... t100. it's a plausible number[/COLOR]
t97 Wrote:Commodore:: Good on ya!
We'll keep him un-NAPed if you will.
Pindicator: no new ones from me
t100 Wrote:Commodore: First of all, can you say when your Rego NAP ends? He's still flashing stuff at us aggressively and we're about to settle our new borders with him

Pindicator: just ended
Pindicator is spinning it pretty thick lately. I have a lot of respect for Commodore's intuition, and they're talking A LOT. I don't see how Pin doesn't get exposed...
and the Rego wheel keeps turning.

In 4 turns Pin assembled 10 galleys full of zerks with appropriate support units and triremes to cover the whole mess.
I have never seen naval logistics so perfectly planned. If Yuri had until t105 he'd still be maimed, but this may look more like an execution.

Pleased to see Sian fighting to the last, bringing out the Lowbows, just as Gaspadore's stack arrives at his capital. By any reasoned assessment, Sian's game is over, but now Gaspadore are now going to waste another 10-or-so turns researching, building and moving Catapults in.
Berserkers have become a bit of a raison d'etre for Pindicator. A target to plan for - and planning is Pindicator's strength as a player. Since Yuri is exactly the 3 turns behind that Pindicator has so well planned, Pindicator will win the opening, which as we've seen with Gaspadore vs Sian should be decisive for the war.
Unfortunately even Pindicator has now realised that they wasted the Industrious bonus, and that Rego is currently (erm) cruising to victory. By the time the dust settles on Gaspadore vs Sian and Pindicator vs Yuri, Rego should have cleaned up the wonders, and out-teched everyone. With Galleons and (especially later) Frigates in the water, these maps can end really quickly.
As ever, there's an element of luck in Rego's situation, although part of that is good diplomacy (especially *talking* Pindicator into submission). But ultimately this is a triumph for religion.

Yeah, those longbows mean the war drags on at least another 10 turns. The pro-longing of this war is going to kill Gaspadore's economy, supply costs while they wait for catapults are just going to be brutal. Sian getting longbows up may well cost them the game.
On a related note:

I don't Yuris will cave that easily. Yes, he is definitely going to lose a lot of ground to Pin's beserkers initially, but ultimately Pindicator's offensive is going to run out of steam. Yuris has interior lines of reinforcement, and maces just don't beat longbows without collateral hitters supporting. Pindicator is going to have to be very careful and go all out to win this, otherwise he'll end up in a Sian-Gaspadore situation: stuck in enemy territory without enough troops continue the offensive.

Wish he had realized that much earlier I think more and more that the alliance with Pindicator may have been the decisive moment in this game.
Rego is going to be extremely scary after Gaspadore and Pindicator wrap up their wars.
regoarrarr Wrote:Well Pindicator and I currently have an alliance. Sian is on the way out, and Yuri is about to get hammered by Pindicator.
So.... let's see.... who's left
Maybe I'll take a shot at the guy who waged a successful war but has a lot of outdated troops, has about half my food / prod / GNP, and is also trying to strongarm me out of ex-Sian cities that are right next to my mainland but halfway around the world from him.
Whoever that is
Though actually I'd be fine with just going peacefully, at least for a little while longer.

He'll probably tech up to Janissaries and galleons, then go tear apart Gaspadore's outdated military. At his current tech rate, I'm not sure if they'll be able to do anything to stop him.

I have just two things to say.
1) When someone has such a lead in score and demographics and is not at least hovering close to #1 in power, their opponents have really screwed up. Especially if that player gets to do this while in pacifism, I mean seriously. I'm finding diplo games to be more and more distasteful, as so many of them could be called simply on the basis of the early agreements the players enter into. The main reason MP civ beats the pants off of single player is the necessity to defend yourself.
2) I know I sound like a broken record here but ASTRONOMY. It compels the soul to look upwards and leads us from one world to another, and it's really freaking good when water's important, for example ON A WATER MAP.
