[SPOILERS] Getting my feet wet in multiplayer

I noticed a flaw in my plan. I totally forgot about WilliamLP's warrior, which could attack my worker while he is building the mine on the hill. So I could do the following, but I would like to know your opinion if this is unfair for WilliamLP or would need a split turn between us?

This is my plan:

  1. Have a look at the situation in turn 59.
  2. If WilliamLP could attack the hill 1S of my worker, wait till WilliamLP has done his turn.
  3. Move the warrior in Lyceum 1SE and the worker on to the hill. The worker should be save this turn because WilliamLP already did his turn and can't declare war.
  4. When the next turn rolls, I'll be the first to make my move and move the warrior to protect the worker.
I have the strong feeling that this would be unfair. Please tell me what you think.

Ok after a good night of sleep, I came to a solution for my morale dilemma. I deem the described plan unfair towards WilliamLP. This means that I will lose 1 turn of worker work, but I can build another worker in Academia to help with the wonder in Lyceum.

WilliamLP moved into a position where he can attack my worker just as expected. I moved my warrior in for protection. Lyceum should stay happy because of the new axeman produced. Just in case I need to use this new axeman, I also moved up my axeman from Academia.
I had a look at the graphs and Dark Savant is building up his power value. I'm a little bit concerned about that. If he really is at war with another player this would be expected. I will have a close look at his graph for the next turns.

My axeman near Dark Savant found his western shoreline. Unfortunately there is no way around. I suspect the landmass NW of the axeman to be a peninsula. I will explore it while I'm there, just to make sure. Back at home I took my warrior and worker to the hill. WilliamLP could attack me but he would have to attack against a hill and across a river. Even with his not yet taken promotions I doubt he can beat my warrior.
In othere interesting notes I missed to events. First JR4 took the barbarian town near him. Well that's a bummer, I hoped they would hold out longer. But shortly after that JR4 and ipecac (currently Commodore) were back at war. Will be interesting to see their POV after the game. I also have to make it a habit of mine to look into the log every turn.
My settler arrived at pink dot and I can settle it next turn.

Finally. Pink dot has an official name: Taixue. I started a mine on the hill to produce the workboat faster. After the workboat I will start on a barracks for the culture and because it's a production city.

In other noteworthy things: JR4 and ipecac are back at peace. Oh and I forgot to name my new axeman last turn. How could I forget it when he got this awesome name:

This post won't be related to anything in-game. I'm looking for a sub in june, so if you are here just for the game, feel free to skip this post.

I'm on vacation from the 8th of june to the 18th of june. I'm not sure if I will have wifi there and if not I still can fall back to mobile. But if this also fails I would need a sub for this time. One thing that makes this a bit harder is that I won't stay in the same place:
  • 8th I will start in the morning and will stay at my grandma's home, which does not have wifi. So on this day I will have to rely on mobile.
  • 9th - 15th I will stay at my main vacation side.
  • 16th - 18th back to my grandma's home without wifi.
I've already tested my setup without wifi, so everything should be fine on that side.

I will prepare detailed plans for this time period. If you need to know anything else please let me know.

Now that's what I call lush, Mr. Mapmaker. lol But in all honesty you did a great job with the map. Very interesting. I also like that there is enough water so that building up a bit of navy is not totally wrong.

On other news: WilliamLPs warrior is still lurking around Lyceum, so my axeman will stay on watch there. I send my warrior out to explore the west. I also underestimated the gold cost for the tech. Looks like I'm losing 8 gold on 100% science instead of 7 from my sim. But I got everything covered and my plan should still work out in the end.

So a lot of small things happened. Let me start with what you see in the screenshot. I discovered Sailing this turn and that gave me access to Dark Savant's and William LP's Trade Network. From this I can conclude the following things:
  • Both did not tech to Sailing, which means both may not go for the Great Lighthous. There is the tiny chance that they researched Sailing at the same time, but how likely is that.
  • Open border agreements are not an option, so both did not develop Alphabet. This doesn't surprise me, because there's not much to gain there expect for Open borders and Science building (spies are not allowed)
  • Both have at least one coastal city.
  • It's very likely that WilliamLP is my eastern neighbor.
I'm willing to trade my pig for a corn from Dark Savant. My intention is to get on good relations with him, but I fear that this would be a bad deal, because at the moment I suspect that nobody gains any advantages from that in the game. What is your opinion?

My scout near Dark Savant continued to scout there and the peninsula seems to bigger or even connect to another player. Maybe it even goes around the world back to me. We will see.

I got graphs on ipecac. He is worse in GNP for than me for the most time, but better in food like everybody else so far. But we are equal on power. Next I start on WilliamLP's graphs seeing as he is my eastern neighbor. I lost graphs on JR4 because he is still pumping espionage points into me, but his graph isn't that important right now.

I also turned down science to 0% for this turn just as planned. Before that I noticed that I loose 9 gold on 100%. Where did that come from? eek Ah short investigation revealed it's because of the newly produced worker from Academia. Great this means I need 27 gold to finish masonary in time. I was able to find a setting in which I finish the lighthouse just in time. Unfortunately I was only able to produce 24 gold this turn. But I checked and I may be able to finish masonary no the last turn with just 90% science. So everything is good again. goodjob

Well interesting times begin. But first my question about the trade corn/pig with Dark Savant has been solved. He offered this trade this turn and I agreed. Other than that the wonder is coming along as planned.

Now to the interesting part. The workboat you can see above revealed the border's of another player, probabely WilliamLP, under the fog. Also my warrior at the bottom of the screen under the UI confirmed that there is water. So there is a 3 tile wide isthmus to east, where I put the sign "need city here to block". The sign also reveals the next important goal for me. I need to scout this area ASAP and plant a city there to block WilliamLP access to my territory and get a good defensive position. I will do the following.
  • The warrior will move in the area to scout
  • The workboat will explore the bay to it's east before I send it back to the clam near Lyceum
  • I finish a granary in Academia this turn and will start a settler next turn. This settler will take 5 turns and I may speed it up with the whip after masonary finishs.
The biggest problem is that I would like to produce another axeman for defense, but the only other cities available are Museion which produces very slowly and the newly found Taixue needs a bit more growth.

Oh and for those curious I will need some spearmen too in the future. But because of my trade connections to WilliamLP and Dark Savant I know that both don't have horses, so I don't need to hurry with spearmen.

I started the settler as planned, but I miscalculated something or overlooked the overflow. The settler will be around in 6 turns not 5. I started exploring the east and it looks a bit better for me. As you can see my workboat discovered more water, which acts as a natural border between me and WilliamLP for now. A few more turns of exploring and I can start on a dotmap for the east. The player in the east is indeed WilliamLP if you haven't noticed.
