AUSTRALIA and ANTARCTICA are both Continents and are almost certainly two of our words here, so there must be some other phrase that made our spymaster clue it as Continental.

Continental tectonic PLATE is the only one that I spotted, do you guys see any others? Is there some European-as-Continental reference I'm missing?

ANTARCTICA and AUSTRALIA are continents.
After that, I like PLATE for plate tectonics.

After reading spoilers:
"Continental" meaning "European" is common usage here in the UK. So you can speak of the Continental PRESS or a Continental CAR. But pjabrony is American; I doubt that's what he had in mind.
I also vaguely recall that Continental is/was a company name? Was it a hotel chain? An airline?
I'd still point to PLATE first.

Antarctica/Australia + plate sounds good. If it isnt plate then the answer is 100% Car. ( Lincoln Continental )

Pre-spoilers:

Washington led the Continental Army

Antarctica is a Continent (close enough)

So is Australia.

Firmly in support of those three, let's see if we're on the same page...

Apparently not. Wouldn't PJA have just clued Continent for two actual continents + plate? Continental is trying to get us something more obscure; I think it's very likely Washington, but SD may be right about the car.

Anyway, Point to Australia, Point to Antarctica.

This makes sense. But wouldn't WASHINGTON have been easier to clue as the place name? Something like Global 3 or even Places 3? Maybe Continental is an equally obvious clue if you're American...

I am open to guessing WASHINGTON or CAR if the team feels it's more likely. (I am not familiar with the Lincoln Continental, either.)

I think the CAR link might be a bit obscure, but WASHINGTON could be plausible. I’m pretty sure that Continental PLATE is the more precise term so maybe pjabrony simply wanted to make sure that we saw that connection.

I also remembered that Continental AIRlines was a major US carrier until it merged with United about 10 years ago, thanks for jogging my memory Azoth. That would also be a very direct connection if it was the one that pjabrony had in mind.

IMO, just go with plate and if its wrong PJ can clue us a bit better

Yeah we’ll have opportunities to figure this out later if we’re wrong.
