[spoilers] Commodore's 69 Techniques

The Great Pitboss 69 Turn 100101 Update:
Welcome, one and all, to the beautiful Bierzenimperialemperiangartenerlands:
It’s not pretty, but at least it’s awkward. Nine cities, one off my turn 100 goal, and not a lot of potential. Let’s look at what we do have, however…

Hefeweizen, the Shining Capital
[Image: hlzY67E.jpg]
Weighing in at a respectable .6 Ottawas, Hefeweizen has been abused pretty heavily over the last hundred turns...this is the first time since hopping into slavery that that it’s actually been without any whip unhappy. My Turn 0 move was incredibly fortuitous, not only giving me the very valuable cow but also getting the copper. This will never be an amazing source of commerce unfortunate to say, maxing out at probably five cottages eventually. I think the whip has finally been surpassed as the ideal tool here; I’m effortlessly capable of getting over 10hpt, so those whips are just less attractive now, particularly given almost all the capital’s food is shared out now. Temple of Artemis is just embarrassing but eh, needs must as devils.

Pilsner, the Incredible Workhorse
[Image: Mbkx2GV.jpg]
I love this second city site. Ignore the lovely lighthouse lake and new farm; for most of this city’s existence it’s been fairly low-food with unlighthoused clams and shared cows as its food. Still extremely high-hammer spot, claims horse, manages to lock down this border...it’s really nice, actually. I’d love to grow it a bit more but if I don’t get a move on I’m actually going to wind up having nothing better to do with a great prophet than bulb Meditation, so research via scientists is in the cards.

Kölsch, the Abused Mountain Fortress
[Image: yJH7TcM.jpg]
Probably the lamest long-term city in the empire, this city has nevertheless been a wonderful build both as an impregnable fortress against Gavagai. and as a +6 food whipping mule for greater empire development. I felt like I had to justify myself settling this as my third city before but now? Great stuff.

Märzen, the Military Camp
[Image: NHWbiA6.jpg]
Hammers, hammers, and more hammers, that’s this city’s whole reason to exist. About a third of my entire military has been whipped out of here, even though it’s a long and annoying road to the Bing, Gav, or Peaky Peninsula fronts. I’ve appreciated this being a DMZ with Pindicator, although with his new offensive against the barbarian city of Zhou that might have to change soon. It’s about to get up to a respectable +5f, so the patterns of whipping might shift soon, but it’s never going to be anything but a place to smack out military.

Bock, the Bridge City
[Image: kBXEWbJ.jpg]
Yeah...this city just exists to kind of exist. It’s growing up a crop of hamlets (one is 3t from village even), it’s whipped a few useful things, and now it shares joint custody of these pigs for the occasional whip. Boring city, pays for itself though, moving on…

Dunkel, the Sugar Daddy
[Image: vzljUYX.jpg]
In time, with Iron Working and Calendar, this city will be amazing. That time is not now, nor anywhere near now. For now, it’s a leech on the capital’s corn and manages to grow some, mine some, and whip a little. It’s okay.

Doppelbock, the Endangered Border
[Image: dOKYbm0.jpg]
Gaining a crazy 8fpt if given the pigs and a respectable 4fpt without them, this city have food going for it and that’s about it. I really want to wrap up walls to feel ideally secure here, but at least once the border pops I’ll be in a reasonable position. Bing’s a huge long-term threat, and I don’t like this flatland no-hammer spot as my primary defense against him, but I’ll take what I can get. Right now I’m working on a settler for Berliner Weiss down in Peaky Peninsula, then it’s just defenders until the cows come home.

Raddler, the Trade Route
[Image: 7HNqpwp.jpg]
As big a deal as this city is for the continued sustainment of even a vague semblance of the economy, the actual development of this place is going to be extremely dull. Whip granary (stop growth), whip lighthouse, whip library. Don’t ask for anything else out of the place, honestly.

Goldschläger, the Contested Ground
[Image: hGkknGi.jpg]
The fourth time a city has been settled on this spot. All I want now from this is gold and a nice fish to whip with. I think that’s reasonable, Gav’s GNP clearly shows he’s got other precious metals. Just need to hold this fortress, which means HOLY FOOD BATMAN will need to be razed and split in the end, but for now, I’m okay with just squatting here and glaring at the universe.

The near-term expansion plan is for the Peaky Peninsula to be mine. Finally with 3 cover axes, a cover spear, and three chariots I can be confident about taking this stupid little city, which can be then followed up with that bridge city for the fish to the north as well. It’s not a lot of land, but it’s still something.
I am nervous about this being a Naogerfrager flashpoint.

The other place to expand was the northern Great Waste, but I think Pindicator, frustrated by eighty thousand Praetorian Guards in Rome, is about to finally take this spot.
I’ve really valued this place being a demilitarized zone with Mali, but it’s definitely a potential flash-point if Pindicator gets bored and geostrategically foolish.

Clever lurkers will also note I'm near the dreaded "minus at 0%". I'm going to strike-stutter after the GP comes I think. Second great person will also be from Hefeweizen, running scientists to get a classic ~20% GM, 30% GPro, 50% GSci for either Taoism or starting up the Chemistry line.

What are the plans for the 1st GP? Bulb something? Or run a trade mission if merchant? Or settle?

Nothing wrong with TofA. It's not the sexiest wonder in the game but it does produce a lot of very useful GPP, a decent investment with Marble if not quite a game changer.

I believe that holy city dead means no natural spread.

I want my own religion, so if it's a Great Prophet, I'll bulb. I'm *thinking* I want to also bulb Code of Laws if its a Great Merchant too, but I need to run the math on that, trade mission might be better.

Chariu, the protective bonus also apply to trade missions? IE, can I low-risk get a huge trade mission by just going to Raddler?

Worker decided to finish its work orders first thing in the turn, so he's nice and exposed to Pindicator if the man decides he wants to embrace more of the Pitboss 65 ethic of "do unto allies a small injury". I'm actually happy to have this here, means we can get a good impression of what his intentions are.

Not Charriu and not tested it, but my understanding is that the trade mission will calculate that city's trade to your capital, so it might take your traits into account when the city is yours. You also more or less need cities over size 10 to get more than the minimum, so ICTR is probably better. I'd to a small sim on it though.

According to what I researched in the curious civplayer segment, you should be correct. Without a holy city no random spreads occur.

I would have to check this, but my guess is yes PRO does factor in to the trade mission. A simple test with worldbuilder should clarify this. According to the numbers you should get the following gold for domestic cities:

Non-Pro same continent city = 700 gold
Non-Pro different continent city = 900 gold
Pro same continent city = 900 gold
Pro different continent city = 1100 gold

IF that is true pro is too strong.

But PRO only affects domestic routes, right? And the trade mission is calculated based on route value of other player’s city to your capital which shouldn’t be affected by either player having PRO.
Reply

Yes, PRO only affects domestic routes, so in the case of trade missions it only gives you a slight bonus in your own cities. Conducting a trade mission in a foreign city most of the time has better or equal results.
