Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[Spoilers] darrelljs (FDR)

Here's some activity for your thread smile I wonder if it's something in the water in Persepolis that makes people paranoid or not hmmm, may be worth looking into. Could be some runoff from the cows in the lake.

Thanks smile. Had a nice chat today with Dreylin (well...) and my fears proved to be founded. Krill was seeking to war at me via Dreylin. I sent him Steel anyway in what is probably a smoke move but let's see. The only silver lining is the fact that Krill feels the need to use Dreylin as a proxy means he still feels the NAP is in effect. Of course he might decide to attack anyway and I'll need to beef my defenses up.

Dreylin didn't state categorically that he would NOT proxy war against me either apparently. I need to go back check when our NAP expires. 1000 A.D. is the next turn so I'll do another update.

I apologize but I don't have time for a long 1000 A.D. update. RL just a bit too hectic right now. In a nutshell, I am gearing for war. I hope that I don't have to fight one, but I'm going to try and avoid getting caught with my pants down rolleye. First step was borrowing a chunk of Ruff's army. Second step was convening a summit with Dreylin and SL for later today to discuss plans and logistics. I can only hope Krill's attempt to recruit Dreylin to fight a proxy war fails, and that Dreylin and SL are wiling and able to help out.

One thing I've realized from looking at my lands is there is no way I can guard everything, so rather than trying to build large fleets of Frigates to cover any attacking contingent, I'm just going to build a big ass hammer pointed at Krill's heartland, and concentrate my Navy in that area (probably going to bite the bullet and upgrade some Galleys to Galleons so my naval cities can concentrate on Frigates). If he moves towards my peripheral islands I will be in position to hit him on his mainland from two directions hammer.

I just used my GS (probably my last best chance for a GE) to fire off a golden age. Next tech will have to be Nationalism (due in 4) for drafting. I'll use this time to complete 4-5 Drydocks and get Barracks up in advance of a switch to Nationalism/Theocracy. I'd love to get some Courthouse in place in a few extra expensive cities while in OR but that's got to be secondary now.

While I expected Krill's displeasure at my trading of Steel to Dreylin, I grossly miscalculated his reaction. I also should have been much more proactive in getting Dreylin's agreement before sending him Steel. If I got dogpiled that will go down as the single dumbest move of this game duh.

Well that resolved itself quickly.

Quote:me: So our nap expries what turn? I think yo uwent back and checked it out?
Andy: yeah
t120
me: so around 10t longer
Andy: we signed a 30t flat agreement on t90
me: I guess I am looking for some assurance you won't be joining Krill against me, and nothing says that like extending our NAP smile
Or at least adding a 10t cooldown to the end
Andy: well tbh I'm looking to keep my options open right now
me: mmm
You realize I could have held steel back and been in Krill's camp, and that I went out on a pretty big limb, right? I hope that at least factors in whatever decision you make.
Andy: yeah, it will certainly factor in
me: Okay, and I would also request that before you make any committment to krill you give me a chance to argue for an alternative smile
Andy: 'k
me: don't you want to at least give me an indication of which way you are leaning, for my peace of mind? wink
Andy: would it give you peace of mind if I said I was leaning towards Krill? wink
me: no, that would make me sad and depressed
my own fault for not locking you down before sending steel over, that would be a nice lesson learned I guess
what's leaning you that way?
Andy: partly a dose of self-preservation
AM I'd definitely lose in the initial encounters
me: hmm...my power at exactl that far from Kril's...and I have certain arrangements with the other parties in teh game that might work in my favor.
I can't tell yo umore about that without getting permission
Andy: but you're NAP'd with Krill, so not much use in preventing me from being dissected...
& any reinforcements you sent would take ages to get to me
me: there is another way, though
I could gift you an island city near me, and get you troops that way
if you are threatening krill...
the alternative isn't much different too
if he is giving you his army, he has to go all the way to you then you have to come all the way back to me
Andy: hmmmm
me: I get the feeling you know something you aren't tellilng me...is he planning on attacking me directly?
Andy: I know lots of things... wink
but that, I don't know either way
me: okay
well I will just mention once again I trusted you big time with the steel trade, making krill an enemy
I hope that trust gets repaid "properly", although Im sure its going to get repaid one way or another wink
Andy: heh

I think its fairly clear he has already chosen a side but doesn't want to come out and say it. Next step is to chase down Krill.

Thanks for the updates. I think this game is the healthiest among our multiplayer games at the moment. Everybody is actively engaged, with some promises of big action in the near future, and without the 'rockstar' implications or bad feelings of Pitboss 2.

IMO, the issues in PB2 are not due to celebrity. And I agree this game is the best going on (not that I am biased). Now, more fuel for the lurkers:

Quote:me: yo
yo I say
de: groggy
me: so I guess I need to ask you this
do we still have a NAP?
because I get the feeling you think we don't
de: Oh, I think we have an NAP.
otherwise you'd have lost your front city by now
me: So just to confirm you consider us under a non-aggressoin pact and we can't attack each other?
de: Yup.
me: Okay...part 2. Are you stilll going to attack Dreylin and do you still want my help there, or is the steel trade causing you to switch allegiances
and if the latter, is that set in stone or still negotiable?
de: I don't think either of those paths is along what I'm thinking of doing
me: Hmm
I've started and stopped typing about 3 different things.
I guess what I really want to know is should I bother IMing you anymore about this game, or is our cooperation over?
de: I believe that co-operation is still on going.
Sids et al
me: Okay...past deals are understood to still be in effect then?
All of them?
de: I can't remember most of them, so you'd have to remind me
me: well there is the one where you give me 5 cities of my choice t111
that was the one I was most concerned with
Let's see, there was the "big" agreement I sent you via e-mail a copy of a few days ago when we were talkign about the gold island
BTW, under that agreement you ahd the right to ask for a Gold resource, do you still wish to do so?
Then the NAP of course.
The tech trades we had worked out.
Err...no joining a dogpile against the other guy.
Open borders full game.
Shrine sharing, sid's, mining inc
NAP
NAP has no RoP
I guess that's all I recall.
7 minutes
me: ECHO...Echo...echo...
de: Sorry,playing the turn
asa heads up, I can't request gpt from you
because you are deficit researching
me: Hmm okay, I will offer it then dial it back down the following turn
de: you need to alter your slider, send the gpt bydiplo
me: yes
de: and then change your slider back
me: yes
Okay. FWIW, I regret sending Steel over to Dreylin. I guess I didn't anticipate your response, perhaps foolishly. I guess I still prefer to work with you and am not quite sure the best way to make that happen. I mean, is there any kind of reparations you'd be willing to accept to make things "right"?
it was 5gpt, right? and then 11+5=16 gold flat.
I can re-caculate but that's my memory
yeah, I asked for 16 gold
me: Okay...and the other?
de: I don't know
me: Well, I'm out Jun 11-15 so at least think about it.
I mean I'm happy about the existing deals, it takes a load off, but don't want to have things go sour over the steel trade. I've enjoyed talking about the game as much as playing it ;(
de: What about the gold island cities?
me: Let me understand what you are suggesting...I cede you the gold island cities and you forgive me the steel trade and we are back to where we were (about to gang up on Dreylin)?
And yes
de: and pretty much. but let's get this straight - I know I need to do the heavy lifting, but I would not be going it alone. You would be earning your island.
me: Just what I was going to say
I think if I just read the e-mail properly I suggested 25% of the total force
heck I already settled 2 of the cities for you, put judaism in there, got 2 fish improved, granary, etc.
we iron this out I'll gift you those cities next turn
de: ok
me: So what are you going to tell Dreylin?
You know, considering you were getting him to fight me via proxy smile. We had a chat about that.
I like this deal better, even with the logistics your hammer would have been tough to fight off.
And it lets me get some revenge on that assmunch.
de: I'lltell him the deal is off because you decided to do the right thing
me: Fair enough.
So let's tally.
de: and we can go back to fighting.
me: My decision to trade Dreylin Steel cost me a) 3 cities, b) have to slog through cannon and frigates now, c) some lost sleep
you'd think I was too old to learn lessons, but apparently not
I'm on Nationalism now BTW, figured drafting would be key.
I know that was on your side but we'll have to jig it around a bit
de: I should finish Astro in 2 turns
me: nationlism in 3
aright...missed breakfast and now lunch, got to head back to work
talk to you later
de: cyaaround

And now some commentary on what is obvious: why trading Steel to Dreylin was a Bad Idea. Krill was a true ally, and those are worth their weight in gold. You want to have someone who is supporting you for the right reasons. I traded Steel to Dreylin, who was just an ally of convenience and basically ended up with no allies. It was really stupid smoke. I paid quite a price for it too, however it will now be highly satisfying taking it to Dreylin hammer.

Probably smile. I got to thinking about it, and started to wonder if Krill was trying to play Dreylin and I off against each other. We were coordinating and he suggested I just go straight for Dreylin's capital. He said to be sure and take the southern route. I could just see Dreylin's armada sailing in from the north to burn Washington to the ground, Krill's Machiavellian enough to arrange such a thing. I decided to dial Dreylin up, hopefully I was sufficiently circumspect:

Quote:Darrell: yo
Andy: yip?
Darrell: so what's the good word?
Andy: well I guess it looks like we may not get any more turns in this week
frown
Darrell: You think Ruff wont' get his PC fixed?
Andy: well not today, certainly
Darrell: yeah
so have you decided yet?
Andy: then you're off on Friday
Darrell: right wont be back until wed
Andy: well, I've been thinking some more
you mentioned setting up a forward base for us
Darrell: I've been convinced that's a cheese move frown
Andy: I assume you don't think Krill will out-and-out declare on you still?
Really, by the Lurkers?
Darrell: SL
Andy: ah
so what would your plan be to stop me/us getting steamrollered?
Darrell: so you aren't leaning krill's direction any more?
Andy: well he's seemed a little less enthusiastic recently
and you did ask me to give you a chance to make a better offer
Darrell: yeah I havent thought to much on your quesiton though...I figured this 5 day vacation would give me strategy time
Andy: well I guess it's close to crunch time
though I'm a bit surprised that Krill didn't have Astro 3-4turns ago!?
Darrell: Yeah I know...ruff being out is actually good I guess...probably wont get another turn in until the break and I can brainstorm a bit
Andy: that lack of lead will certainly help
Darrell: I'll have my phone with gchat too so we can still talk over the break
Is his cash still steady?
Andy: OK, well my short-term plan is to pump out troops/boats either way
Darrell: He could be playing some clever game where he is upgrading units to make his gold steady while running surplus gold
he'
he is that crafty
Andy: well, I haven't managed to get a look into his territory (my Caravels keep getting killed) so I wouldn't know
Darrell: I'm scared to send a scout in there aftter what happened to yours
Andy: could use some Airships right now! smile
Darrell: yeah, that tech is a ways away
Andy: well you guys have a NAP
and we didn't
Darrell: Yeah...that's true. I just dunno if he'd do an RB vs. Imperio on me and say trading steal was "aggresive" or somethign like that
Andy: Hmmm, maybe
Darrell: okay I have to go back to work, ttyl
Andy: 'k bye

Fairly reassuring. I plan on playing the rest of the game like Krill and I are working together in an honest manner, because frankly I won't enjoy it otherwise. If it turns out I was wrong, well we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.

Hello!

Was wondering if there was any 'state of the union' due from that FDR chap?

Is it all going well?
Reply

Wow...has it really been 2 weeks since my last post?

I don't think I've played more than 5-6 turns in that time frame. I discovered Nationalism and went into Nationhood and have been drafting Muskets while building Cannon/Frigates. When I get the save back I'll post an overview of my cities and my military smile.
