[SPOILERS] Sandover(cre/spi) of Egypt

Sullla Wrote:That's a very nice overview of how things stand, and where you're planning to go in the future. Seems like you're off to a good start in this game so far. thumbsup

I'm definitly satisfied with my opening so far. There's a few very minor things I could have done better had I been used to the Quick speed, but nothing worth crying about. I've actually been lucky to not lose any of my warriors to barbs as they've been in trouble on a few occasions despite the low difficulty, not to mention getting the copper at Sandoria, so I'm in really good shape. With this game being No Tech Trading, which I feel very adapt at as I've been up against the Immortal AI using that setting more times than I care to remember, I can see myself winning this down the line.

Egyptian Lore; the modified naming theme

Entities:

The Sand-God Darrell, Creator of Worlds
The most powerful being known by Eqypt. He created the world and the Eqyptian people.

The demi-God Sandover, Pharaoh of Egypt
Tasked by Darrell to build a civilization to stand the test of time, he leads the Egyptians through the centuries. Eternal damnation awaits him should he fail his task.

The Goddess of War, Psamathe, Wife of Darrell
She once appeared before the Egyptians and tasked them with founding a second city to the south, in her honour. Pharaoh Sandover followed her wish and in turn his people was given the ability to tame horses for the sake of warfare. The Egyptian chariot riders have been blessed by Psamathe and are therefore extremely resilient.

Naming Theme Units:

To further honour Psamathe all mounted units will be named Servant of Psamathe. To follow this theme all melee units have been renamed Servant of Darrell, as he is the creator of the first Egyptian warrior. Workers in turn has been renamed Servant of Sandover, as they are his greatest tool on his quest. There is still no decision made on what to call archery units, so suggestions are welcome.

Naming Theme Cities:

When Psamathe appeared before the Eqyptians Darrell decided that he also wanted a city named in his honour, and conferred his desire to Sandover, who promised to put the Sand-God's name on a settlement being planned in the north where the precious rare metal copper had been discovered. Sadly, Sandover had already promised Psamathe her name on the next city, but Darrell is a wise and patient God so he accepted the situation. In fact, he found himself generous enough to create another deposit of copper in the first Egyptian mine at Sandoria, so that the Egyptians would not have to wait to make use of the metal, as he was pleased with the work Sandover had done so far.

Explaining the Abomination:

The Egyptians have, upon discovering the large lake in the southeast, come to the conclusion that such a faulty construction cannot be the work of Darrell. The expert soothsayers are yet to come with a definite explanation, but a strong theory is that *insert name here*, former mistress of Darrell and God of Water tried to destroy his creation in an act of revenge by launching a powerful bolt of water against the world. Such was the relative strength, however, that the bolt did nothing but wound the great creation, causing a large crater filled with water to errupt, that have the capacity to turn mighty sand into mud.

Reading the link I'm thinking she may also be Darrell's water-bolting former mistress through an intriguing twist in the plot. There's still some time before I'll wind up building any archery units though so I'm sure my soothsayers will have plenty of time to figure it out.wink

How about Anuket or Hatmehit as Darrells former mistress.

I hope you don't forget Tenenet (Tjenemit) toast

The Altar of Darrell

Some big news this turn. The Servant of Darrell that has worked his way south along the coast spotted a small desert surrounded by four peaks. This creation clearly must serve some higher purpose, and has been named the Altar of Darrell as speculations are that it was shaped for ritual purposes. As the soothsayers are very busy these days and since Darrell isn't known to make his presence felt on a regular basis it will probably take the Eqyptians centuries upon centuries to learn the true purpose of this holy(?) desert.

In game news two wonders were built last turn. Scooter had a score increase of 20 and Twinkle one of 26 (20+6), so it's pretty clear who built what. Twinkle finishing the Oracle isn't unexpected at all as he is Industrious and the wonder being one of the most popular early wonders. What tech did he grab? Well, this far into the game I'd say his options were either Monarchy or Metal Casting. Monarchy overall is the most useful of the two techs imo, but Twinkle get cheap Forges from his trait and Metal Casting is the most expensive tech of the two. So to summarize; my guess is Metal Casting.

I kinda expected Bob to build the Oracle, but maybe he was simply beaten to it? Or maybe he didn't found Hinduism after all? Naaaaaah... I know he founded Hinduism!

The big question for me at this point is; if Bob was never going for Oracle, then what the duce is he going for? I still think he made an attempt at Oracle, or hell, maybe even Stonehenge, but what if not? The Gardens!? No, no, NO! Stay away from my wonder! Go build the Library or something.

Scooter building the Great Wall is kind of a silly move imo. Scared of barbarian warriors much?:neenernee There's even a +10% modifier against barbs on this difficulty, and bar from the units needed as scouts and military garrison there's really not a lot needed to fend them off. Surely the Great Wall is way more expensive than building, say, a few chariots or axemen? So he actually waste hammers and polute his GP pool with spy points building this wonder! Not to mention the experienced units he won't get that he would otherwise have! Poor Scooter.alright

At least now I know why I had such trouble figuring out his techs early on. Or well, I might know why. If he got a fast Masonry then that's probably the reason, anyhow. Now I think I need to worry about him going for Judaism. Oh well, Christianity will work just as well if he does.

Pope Sandover I? Yes, that does have a nice ring to it!

The Germanic Tribe

A friendly message joined the save in my inbox today.

Quote:Good day to you Pharaoh Sandover.

My scout, Ryan Giggs encountered your Servant of Darrell this turn and I believe the time is now to send my warmest greetings to your civilisation and congratulations on evading the feral barbarians circling my borders!

As a demonstration of my goodwill to you, I informed your warrior of a lion which was 2 NW of his current position. There have also been sightings of bears and wolves in the area over the last 4 or 5 turns, so tread carefully.

If there is anything you would like to discuss, do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours respectfully,

Chancellor Twinkletoes of Germany

I haven't actually played my turn yet, but here's some first impressions.

- He addressed me properly as 'Pharaoh'. Clearly a bonus to relations.thumbsup
- His scout is named Ryan Giggs. Uhm, yeah, I'm a Liverpool fan. He better not have a Gary Neville running around somewhere...nono
- I have three Servants of Darrell explorers, so I do not yet know where he found me. However, based on the comment about barbarians I guess he's to my east, having run into my starting unit.
- It appears the meeting occurred close to his borders.
