I just did another playthrough and bulit the NE in the capital EOT111. I think the barracks whip overflow in Bitter should go into Parthenon, so we can cash it out sooner. I don't think NE will finish before it, no matter where we build it.

BM will build its settler with maximum overflow, being at 99/100; I think that's fine, because we don't want the city any sooner, anyway. We will get currency on the turn we settle that city; need to run 20% science or something on the turn before. Five workers need to scoot over to farm the corn on its first turn, chop the silk forest into a granary on the second turn, and complete the silk plantation on the third turn. Then four of them can pasture the cow and proceed to build some more cottages for WIFOM. That all works out nicely.

We need a settler for the ivory/sugar site. Maybe BM should just go on to build that one as well? It can only grow onto scientists, anyway, with its current improvements. In my sim the capital grew into unhappiness on T112; so that would make a good date for settling this city. The workers in the north need to chop out the Parthenon, so probably hard to get much worker support before then, anyway.

In terms of timing the golden age, maybe wait until we have researched code of laws? Our second GP should pop at the same time; if it's a scientist, it can bulb philosophy. Then we could fire the golden age and run caste/pacifism. Civil service should take about 5 turns at break-even science at that point, so we could swap into Bureaucracy after 5 turns.
If you know what I mean.

Misunderstood this question at first. Sounds like a strange idea. smile All the chops are coming in on T97, too, so you'd just end up building the NE instead of the GLib. If we want more failgold, we should dump more whip overflows into the Glib elsewhere, before completing it.

Heh, misunderstood you twice. NOW I get it. Too many damn barracks whips being discussed here. crazyeye

A head start on the NE instead of the 88 failgold. Ok, that is probably worth discussing. Not sure what my opinion is, off hand. That might be a good idea, if HN is really where we want the NE.

On the flip side, without the 88 gold I'm sure currency will be delayed by at least a turn, and maybe two.

aargh managed to royally mess up what HN and Bitter are doing. Trying to think this through memory without a save.

It seems I rememberred correctly after all. We would be getting 88 hammers towards National Epic from HN, if we switch from GLib to NE for our next turn. Of course this would come with a price i.e. losing the gold, but we would get National Epic way sooner.

We can still get a little bit of fail gold by building TGL in e.g. BM on that turn. I'd like a sim to see how fast we can get currency.

Seems worth it.
I have to run.

As always I've only made rough estimates in my head so anyone who has really sandboxed this will have a way better answer. I think GLib (i.e. gold) is right choice for HN after all. Especially if we want to be as fast as possible to Music, gold now has more value than potential commerce gained from earlier Great Persons later.

Roughly we delay National Epic ~7T, but should gain Currency ~2T sooner. Assuming we could work 2 Sientist on relevant time frame that would be a race between ~40 GPP points vs. ~40 Commerce from Currency. Over the long run these option seem pretty equal.

We're up, but I'll wait for this evening to play so you've time to state your opinion.

Then of course there are the hammers lost that I didn't take into account i.e. we would have those 88 hammers (44 real ones) to use to something else after the NE is ready so over long run National Epic is better, but if we lose Artist because of this that would be huge loss.
