The Balkans were pretty Greek during say, 550 AD. You forget that wonders like the Parthenon were destroyed.

umm, do what now? I'm pretty sure the Parthenon is still standing, or else the Greek tourism industry is running quite the scam. I saw it myself just 13 years ago.

The Oracle is still in Delphi, as well, although all the priestesses have died off .

The Colossus of Zeus is gone, however, along with all the "7 ancient wonders" that aren't called "pyramids."

I've not been to Greece. I have been to the copy in Nashville, made for the worlds fair there. I have to say, it was impressive, even knowing it was a copy.
