So..... I think this game is just about over.
Pindicator a few turns ago kicked off (a MOM-enhanced) Golden Age, and is now working FIN + Colossus + GA = 2/0/5 coast tiles everywhere. He just teched Philosophy 3 turns ago, and GNP-scrying indicates that someone has Education, which HAS to be him.
Scooter got a super early Astronomy a few turns ago, and his power is climbing, but I would bet that Pindicator is setting up a Liberalism->Astronomy play, probably coupled with 2 more GPs to extend his GA another 9 turns.
I am not completely accurate on tech tracking, but I believe it is something along the lines of
Pindicator: 13670b
Scooter: 9790
Regoarrarr: 7545
Ruff: 6621
Ichabod: 4628
Least sure about Ichabod - I'm sure I'm missing a few of his techs as he does not have Alphabet, but I do think he's last.
That discrepancy is only going to get bigger with ~12 more turns of GA + Liberalism.
Really not sure what to do in a CTON world to stop him...

Dogpile, clearly. Just take a leaf from the last time you played a this-style map and crush muskets on galleons up against rifles and frigates*.
*Ignoring the fact that EIs aren't exactly galleons...

Yeah. I'm teching towards Astro myself, but I was kind of hoping (5-10t ago) I could Liberalize it myself. Not. Gonna. Happen.
And as I know you know, dogpile in CTON is a BIT harder to pull off....

Aaaaaand ballgame
My last great hope was that Scooter's army of galleons and crossbows was heading for Pindicator, but alas, it is not to be. I AM glad on the other hand that it is not heading for ME!!!
I mean I can't fault him too much - attacking Pin at this point would be a huge and bloody undertaking, but it isnt going to get any better or easier...
Of course, he didn't rename his captured city, and his last 3 natively founded cities have the default names, so it may be that he isn't putting THAT much effort into this one...
I wonder about a game with PBEM13 style diplo (basically in the chat window). That way you have diplo, but without the time sinks of chats and such. I am kind of surprised nobody has ever done a redux of that style of diplo - it seemed like it worked out okay there

It happens all the time in FFH games.
20 used it, 25 is and I think 26 might be too.

Not a whole lot going on here. Building up. I teched Machinery last turn, and am heading on to Optics. I'd like to get Education possibly as well.
Scooter took a city from Ruff, then I think grabbed another city or two in a peace deal, which put me comfortably in 2nd place in the demos.
Unfortunately, that it a CLEAR 2nd place.
My plan here is to kick off a golden age here in a few turns
Then use that to get 3 GPs, one for an Academy and the other 2 to extend the GA, and see what happens there.
So Scooter in theory still has that big galleon fleet and Pindicator doesn't have Machinery (or Optics or Astro) yet, so I'm sending the "attack Pin" vibes to him, but since they are PB8 buddies, I doubt it will happen

Good to know - does it seem to be working okay there?

Yeah reasonably well.
FFH tends to be more unbalanced then bts so I think that could be w hy they keep going for it

So, given new foreign events, hope back?

Why.... whatever do you mean?
Yeah it has given a bit of hope. I was reading their PB8 thread and I think Pindicator said something about how he was going to get the turn last night but "something came up - but you wouldn't know anything about that, right?"
And it indeed gave me a hopeful feeling when I opened this save yesterday.
So yes, Scooter declared on Pindicator. There were no cities changing hands on that turn, but we shall see what happens when I play here in a little bit.
I actually thought this morning that perhaps I should also declare on Pindicator. I don't really have any type of credible military, but HE doesn't know that, and it might a) cause him to whip / draft more, and b) encourage Scooter to not sign peace.
But it also has some downsides of course, like losing Pindicator trade (tolerable) and risking some of MY cities (riskier). I am leaning towards not doing it, but even while I say that, I think that is really the reason why dogpiles don't work It's actually in MY best interest to do the least amount of war planning possible But I'm going to give it some thought when I play the turn here shortly
