Sorry, guys. This weekend I can't do any more map rolling. It's the premiere of a play I'll act on. If you want to wait, I can do some more work on monday, but it's really a tiresome task, being compeltely random (but my advice is that you wait - Civ 5 map generator sucks, 80% of the starts are imbalanced to the point of being 3/4 salts against jungle dyes and clams).

I'm fine with waiting. Just going to stress out that the starts do not need to be perfectly balanced, just discard the most obviously imbalanced maps.

Yes, I would prefer to wait a couple of days rather than play months on a sucky map

Is it just resources or do the problems go deeper than that? I'm actually curious...
I have to tell you that the map generator was made by Sirian before you answer...
Edit: My question has been answered indirectly. Fractal really does not count because it is meant to be random and therefor unbalanced. So Ichabod struggling to roll a decent map here doesn't meant anything. Now if he struggles when he is using a map script that is meant to be balanced then we can talk about how shitty the map generator is...

Our settings are probably the worst for rolling a balanced map. Highly random map script combined with two empty civ slots and two empty CS slots.

The method I'm using is the following:
1. I roll a map and check each Civ start by saving the first turn and playing it for the 4 civs;
2. If the starts are somewhat balanced, I check the map in WB, trying to find each Civs starting position and seeing if the map is interesting.
Only 3 maps passed the 1st stage from the method, from ~30 tries (there's always an overpowered salt or marble start or a useless tundra and jungle start). The 3 ended up being maps where 3 civs were in a continent and 1 was isolated on a second continent, with no optics contact. I found those maps to be boring and unfair.
I think I need to start trying with a new map script. Fractal always seems to make this 3-1 maps, which won't pass my map checking criteria. I could go with the next balanced start map, whatever it has on the rest of it. But I think changing the map script is better.

I'm okay with changing the map script. If we do change it, we should leave it to the map maker to choose what the new one is, since we're all obviously biased with our picks already done.

Agree with this.
