[SPOILERS] Banzailizard and Woden go hunting!

I am reconsidering my mid-term strategy (T40ish and beyond). I was planning on chopping a couple of settlers out at the capital, then shifting Magnus to City 2 to chop out the Ancestral Hall and have the settler hang out for a while until it is complete. Problem is that they maybe waiting around for 10 turns and could be growing during that time. Also, it would mean the campus at City 2 would be its 2nd district and given the rate at what I am expecting from shipbuilding, the production cost will probably be doubled. I need to figure out if it would be better to forgo a quick GP and do a campus first to super speed my tech rate and then do the GP once the city hits size 4. It would delay the GP a little bit and getting Pingala in play but I would need to hold off on placing him until the chops are done at the capital anyways.

How bad would it hurt your plans if I delayed sending you your gold back right when I get enough and send it after I buy the tile for the campus. I could send your gold back next turn or I could send it in 12 turns? That might be too long. I think I have 8 turns until Writing is done. What if I send your gold back next turn but you send me some gold in 8 turns, so I could by the tile? I don't think I would need much, maybe 10-20. I am also going to have to look into my timing of civics. When EE finishes, that should make the production costs dependent on my complete civics since it will be 3 each and there are less total civics than techs. Therefore, I will want to have the campus placed before Craftsmanship finishes if I want to save on costs but I think I have Writing finishing on the same turn. Hmmm... I need to do a little testing here and maybe delay Craftsmanship by a turn. I don't think that screws you up any. You would finish Craftsmanship the turn after the boost, not 2 turns. I actually don't think it would delay PP at all since I was planning on finishing it with a galley build and have some overflow.

England Turn 28

Barb scout is active.  Not what that means since it was active before.  Do I get twice the number of barbs attacking me?

I also updated my plan again to fill in civics and tech.  I am thinking of doing a couple of well timed policy swaps to try to get out another galley and then another settler out of London.  That might be forced to change depending on barbs showing up and preventing a swap into MI.  Delaying the gold 12 turns would be a bit much, it would start by setting London's growth to size 3 back by 1 turns and then a snowball from there for a much later size 4 growth.  As is my plan would have London fill up on food, drop 1 pop from a settler, and then go right back to 4 pop the next turn. I could certainly send you 10-20 gold the turn you need it though.

Turn 29-Gaul
Finished Pottery, started Writing, due in 8 turns. Builder mined grassland hill, grabbing the unowned surrounding tiles. Builder completes at capital and moves to plains hill SW of capital to mine and grab the forested plains tile that will be chopped into the campus. Screenshot didn't take, so no screenshot. I will get one next turn.

I did send 35 gold back to you. I think I will have enough on my own for the tile purchase in 8 turns. I will know for sure when City 2 grows in 5 turns and its happiness becomes -2. I don't remember if the next stage of yield penalty comes at -2 or -3. I think it is at -3 unhappiness, so we should be good.

First galley will come out in 5 turns, same time both cities grow. I did work out going campus first at City 2 and holding Craftsmanship from finishing by a turn. A couple of benefits happen. First, the districts should be 78 cogs, instead of 83 but I also lose a turn of Urban Planning, so really only save 3 cogs each. City 2 will probably be at size 4 when the GP comes available, so no loss there. The 3 cogs savings at the capital actually snowballs into getting PP out a turn earlier than previously estimated. This is because the chop for the campus overflows into a ship and gets doubled (from card) and gets the ships out a turn early, which cascades to complete PP (ship that completes PP comes out with PP at 2 turns, instead of 1). So, I think I will shift to placing the campus first at City 2.

Long day, took me a while to get home and take the turn.  Anyways...

Turn 29 England

Got the money for the trader, bought the trader, it should start trading next turn right on schedule.  That should shorten the growth time for London by a turn, and me extra production both directly, and indirectly though letting me work the 1/3 tile. Oddly the barb scout has not moved.  I did uncover two more Jungle tiles behind it. One of them is a river tile but not for a river I have found.  That suggests there is another river on the north of my island. I should probably add a gold column for my spreadsheet, that way I will know how long until I can afford to buy another trader.  Since I will be making RND, I should probably try to acquire traders sooner.

Tomorrow I will not be able to play in the morning window (assuming it comes around in time) if you really want to take the turn.  I should be back by 5 or 6 for my evening window.  Going to a local academic conference about remote sensing (satellite data), machine learning, and their joint application for environmental economics.  Really neat stuff.

Turn 30
I ended up playing both since the turn came around noon (my time) and figured it would be better to get the save moving so we have a chance at another turn today. For Gaul, I mined the plains hill by my capital and farmed the rice by City, boosting Irrigation and Craftsmanship...

Going to have a few boring turns coming up as things are worked on and little for me to do.

For England, I moved your warrior north and discovered another river along the fog edge in the north...

Might be a good city location up there or even 2. Trader creates a route to Leeds, boosting Currency and builder moves closer to Leeds. I noticed in your plan you want to pasture the sheep in a couple of turns but I don't think you have Animal Husbandry yet, so your best bet is hooking up the turtles and fish. After that, maybe bring him back to the capital to hook up your other turtle and send them to me or you could go explore the island west of Leeds.

Good catch on the animal husbandry, I am not used to not having it for this long and forgot about that block. I'll have to figure out how to fit that into my plan. If anything I would rather the builder stay around leeds and just mines the copper for another boost.

You'll have to research Mining then. Probably good to stick around Leeds and then research either Mining or AH after CN. Probably take less time than bringing the builder back to London. You shouldn't need the boost for Craftsmanship before I finish it anyways. I will have EE finished in 5 turns and Craftsmanship in 8.

Yeah I currently planned to research pottery then mining then writing to chop the forest near London and get the campus down. Going in the other order, and pairing the chop with MI could be quite effective though. I'll have to play around in my spreadsheet.

Not much going on, I move my warrior closer to the capital. A barb warrior also comes out of the fog by London. If I were you, I would move my warrior west a tile, then the warrior would have to attack across a river, giving you a decent defense bonus. Then just fortify and let the warrior kill itself against your warrior.

England Turn 31

I did indeed move the warrior to block the barb warrior. I also moved the builder onto the turtles, next turn I should get the fishing ship done, gaining an amenity and helping Leeds. I think the earlier built fishing ships should get me CN a turn earlier than my previous prediction.  Was a bit busy today so I will have to fiddle around with the spreadsheet tomorrow.
