Logged in to see Thoth's reaction. Didn't see any

Moving onto the ivory next (killing the axe in the jungle seems unnecessary and we would be near guaranteed to lose at least 1 unit - it's sub-2% odds). Will promote the axe with saved up promotion to combat 1, so that if Thoth attacks from the jungle, it's just a coinflip. There's no melee units in range, if he does have chariots for "aggressive defence", hopefully the spear does his job

Hey, maybe we're lucky and Miguelito's already causing problems on Thoth's other side.

Would you mind posting the demos and power screens? I'd like to try some C&D.

Man, if we can take See Scape cheaply, we've got that nice forest leading into Thoth's gold. One can dream...

Putting a turn of production into an axe in the capital, just to have a double whip set up. Realistically we should only need it in case Thoth decides to move the axe towards Big Red Dragons. Next turn we can move the starting archer, so if that happens, we move the archer to cover Big Red Dragons, and whip an axe in the capital. Although ideally we don't whip until Writing is in, so that we can overflow into a library

In Gruul Smash I'm putting overflow into a worker, but will put a turn into a bowman next turn - again, to have a whip available for an emergency. It's a bit of a risk - if Thoth shows up with 3 chariots, there's some danger of Gruul Smash falling if Thoth rolls well - but I didn't want to put overflow into even more units, we certainly invested enough into military up to this point

Here are the demos

Btw, Miguelito spent 1.5 hours in-game playing this turn. Wouldn't try reading anything into it, but potentially noteworthy

Thoth whipped an axe in See-Scape, and there's another one on the way. The axe in the jungle is indeed moving towards Big Red Dragons

I think we attack with a bowman first, it's slightly better odds than attacking with an axe, plus first strike. Move over the starting archer to Big Red Dragons and whip an axe in the capital as planned. We should still be good to finish Writing this turn, so overflow can go into a library. Then we go back to building a granary while regrowing, and whip that, overflowing into library to completion

Probably should pick up AH as the next research, if only to give Big Red Dragons another good tile to work. I see Monarchy for HR as our next big research target, but would rather backfill first. There's also Sailing others researched, but I don't know... on one hand, we don't plan to work much coast, Lighthouses will be merely +1 food from seafood at the moment. But on the other hand, is there vulnerability I'm not seeing in not having access to ships when others do?

HBR is the other potential big research target, but I think we're done with aggression after (hopefully) taking See-Scape. With the filler city next to the spices we will have 5, that should be enough to sit back and build up economy

We also should think about our bulbing plan, as that will determine techs we should avoid. The first scientist is building an academy, but what comes after?

The first bowman lost only dealing 1 hit to the axe, but the second bowman won a 50/50

Placed the entire remaining stack into the forest. Technically if Thoth has a chariot on the pasture tile, he can retake the city. But if he does it with a chariot, we just take it back. A wounded bowman for a chariot wouldn't be a bad trade for us, and I'd rather have the forest to ourselves than let Thoth's axe into it. Hope this wasn't a mistake

Should we pillage the road in the forest? Pretty sure we should, right?

Otherwise did all the things described in the previous posts

Moving to the forest seems great. I don't know about pillaging the forest road. It would be really nice to destroy Thoth's gold mine. A lot will depend on what he puts on that tile next turn. It's very hard for him to attack into a mixed Axe/Bowman stack in defensive terrain.

We've just made Thoth very angry, and he still has Agg Praets in the pipe. It would be lovely to sit back and tech, but we might need to bleed him a bit further. Even after its borders expand, See Scape isn't a great spot to sit back and tech from. But we now have an edge and constant, low commitment pressure should keep Thoth on the back foot for the rest of the game.

As for the Scientist, I'm a big fan of Math bulbs. It gets us closer to things like Construction or Currency and is usually excellent beaker for food value.

The thing about Thoth's gold - he can't work it. It is 2 tiles diagonally from the capital, just outside BFC. See-Scape may have been a throwaway city settled just to work the gold - judging by the fact he never invested much into it (no workboat for the second seafood, no attempt to improve the ivory). Reposting the screenshot from earlier for the big picture

Pillaging it just to deny the happiness doesn't seem like a high value play. Now if we could camp a unit on his iron - I would love that. Praetorians are certainly still coming. But iron is much further in the backlines, and that much harder to reach

In any case, AH seems like an obvious next research. We would be very unlucky to lose a city to Thoth's jungle axe, but he could still camp it on the gold, or on the banana forest - it would be quite a disruption. Getting a chariot or two is an obvious answer

Math sounds like a great first bulb target

By the way, now that we see the shape of Thoth's border, he did not settle W of the iron, so his 3rd city has to be on the spices
