[Spoilers] Ceterum Peter censet Carthaginem fore triumphatrix - Adrien + Miguelito

oh yeah, wasn't aware that the difference was 50/3 or 49/3.... thought 16.x is ok :D

could you play the turn in the morning?
Reply

oh... if you do, it's important that the worker gets 13 hammers during the turn.

sorry for the confusion. Played the morning turn. If Al sends in one more this morning (don't know when exaxtly these guys go to bed), it's all yours

made a very inefficient scout movement (but I checked, there's still enough time to circle the whole west coast before the galley comes in). Found something:

Bad shot, but hint: It's neither a fish nor a crustacean. Resourceful island! Settling on hte marble seems like a very logic thing to do now.

Not seen: work boat on its way to net the crabs just when Green Dot gets size 2, according to Adrien'smagic plan smile

Demos. We are working a plains forest to get the worker in time (that's not bad, actually, it's still a 4-yield tile for a worker), as somehow we lost at least one hammer compared to the sandbox. So all-time low GNP! But the rest looks nice for the moment. 11k power means that someone opted for pottery before BW? And still only one second city besides ours.

I think we haven't pulled the worst start. The weak point is the late Wheel/Pottery, which may change to laaaaaaaate if we deicde we want Writing after Sailing for border pops.
It really hurts to delay our cheap (!) granaries and, of course, the cottages. OtoH, Writing means we can settle the awesome copper spot, get the silver within borders earlier (at least to work the mine for the commerce), and can start benefitting of our Phi trait. Btw we would neet Libraries in 3, probably 4 of our 5 cities planned so far (marble iceball can wait for a caste artist), partly only for the border pop. Is that stupid? Is it smarter to just tech Myst and build two Monuments? I like Libraries more because of actual usefulness of both the tech and the building, but maybe it's too much an investment? Your thoughts Adrien? (Is anybody else still reading? Maybe they could also throw in their thoughts, maybe from a more general point of view? I don't really have a detailed idea of what people here refer to as "meta")

Oh and I had a horrible thought: Mardoc will build Stonehenge on top of his guaranteed Oracle-Colossus, right? Not much we can do about it, at least before maths... and even then, we need hammers for other stuff. Maybe Al decides to grab it? I expect him to go for a religion...

Adrien, if you play the next turn (I'm available again in the afternoon), you may switch the plains forest to FP. That way the worker should finish without overflow and we get a much needed extra beaker.

11k could definitely be 4k wheel 2k AH 2k hunting 2k mining 1k pop, but I don't think the timing's right.
Still in favor of wheel->pottery->writing with sailing somewhere. But I'll take a look at possible sims this weekend. Libraries are ok if we can chop/whip them, but maybe in food/forest poor cities monuments are better. We're not cre. Alhazard going for Henge wouldn't be stupid, I think they're in a race but if Mardoc starts soon enough (recognizing the danger of Alhazard) he's assured of getting it with his hammer bonus.

Nice turn, although little to do. The chop came in and we finished our 2nd worker, Green Dot grew to size 2 (world wide first 2nd city to do so cool) to work its crabs.... but all that was after hitting enter. As seen in demos [...edited away, cause apparently I uploaded the same shot as the turn before, but seems I've lost the t23 shot so no analysis here]

Also, something I've been wanting to do for some time:

(These numbers are from after hitting enter, with us leading in pop nod)

With 20 land tiles worked, we've got 3.75% of total, so there are 533 land tiles on the map. Actually, I was interested more in the total tile number to esteem how far opponents would be and how much of the world we know, but that's not possible right now because I don't know the water/land ratio. I googled something like civ 4 small map sizes, but it seems they vary depending on the map script? Maybe Commodore can / wants to clarify?

T24 demos:

The player with the size 2 capital (I think it's Mardoc) founded a second city, one has a size 3 cap and size 2 second city just like us (but we were first :P) and one has still just a size 3 cap.
The shot is from before the EoT border pop, hence we're last in land. Next turn we start the camp.
Urgent input needed: Do we start chopping now, farm the FP, or mine the wines hill? I would do the latter, as the mine could be shared with a possible copper first ring city, we don't really need the chop (as we can whip the capital for the settler) and I think we need hammers more than food right now (we'll have a total of 4 food resources for our first two cities, and are rather constrained on happiness). D'accord?
Another issue I've been discussing and would like feedback on is where to put a copper city. I think it's either 1E or 1E1NE from the copper tile, the latter being the better city, but needs the border pop. What do you think?

The border pop gave us more vision across the waters:

So we may not have to urge for that tundra horse tile, but could rather get horses directly on the mainland. Maybe we still find copper as well? The last tile not scouted yet on our island is the desert hill.
Also, that wheat/sheep spot looks nice, though I still think the crab/corn spot is best for our first settlement, for its resources as well as logistics.

Ok so first thought, you should turn to binary research ASAP, else we're losing beakers on rounding. Second I want the wine mined, it's probably the best we can do as I really want to cottage the FP eventually so a farm there would be very temporary. And last, we really need to scout the mainland, there seems to be lots of stuff out there that we want.

Yep, the question is if we can grab that stuff with just warriors. We'll try to.
Reg scouting: The plan is to load the galley with warrior/settler first; the turn they get off the boat a worker and the scout get on. So the scout can scout, just have to take care not to get murdered... don't know if it makes sense to move just one tile per turn (a chariot can still eat him). I don't know how much scouting the galley can do, as we need it to get more warriors, and hopefully settlers, over there.

Played, but not really anything to show... We saved gold this turn according to your binary research comment, but just 5 at 60%, which is what we need to do the rest of the turns till 29 at 100% and get Sailing in time.
Reply

That's annoying, I think that if we had done it last turn we could have gotten it down to 0% and won 2 beakers out of it while still finishing it early enough. Actually 60% loses the exact same number as 80% from the rounding, it's only at 50% that we get back to full efficiency.
