Probably. Either that or a post-OR city where a missionary is lined up to arrive with the settler.

We don’t need to settle the desert to get a canal there, we just need to build a fort smile

Maybe that city placement makes sense if we have Stonehenge first. It would mean a follow up city NE of corn would make sense to allow us to build a fort E of corn.

Otherwise I tend to think the faster placement on the silk that shares corn and lake tiles might be better. Sure it gives up a bunch of land but it’s nearly all useless desert. A follow up city E of corn could claim the forest tiles on the north end of the desert, which might actually be useful for something. Either way we’d need one fort to complete the canal, though.

I know. smile

I think the next two cities are both going east, so I'm going to give it a few before I lock in over here as the particulars can change fast - such as if there's horse over here which feels very possible. Settling on the silk though like you said is definitely a viable alternative. Either way, this city needs to be planted with a cultural plan in place.

I think I’ve figured out The Plan. GLH will be slipped in between cities 4 and 5 which ensures that it’s good and early while still leaving us likely in the city lead or close to it. Delaying City5 until after GLH also gives us more time to have worker labor in place which will be at a premium. Logan is growing to size 5 right now, and then it’ll whip a settler for Copper. GLH will be built with Trading Post whip overflow + a pair of chops combined with a hammer config for a couple turns. Kendall will whip a worker at size 4 to help make all this work. Worker labor will be tight for awhile, but the lake access makes that not feel so bad. Yuris picked up his second city a couple turns ago, so all other players are on 2 cities now.

The big caveat here is the 5th city location is not totally locked in yet. I think that spot is the easiest choice for now as I can get it up and running quickly with 2h plant + wet Wheat + a bunch of forests, but if horses are in the west and conveniently placed, that could change things.

Not quite doubling the averages, but flirting with it. Gold online next turn to really rocket the tech rate.

Quick neighbor update as these now account for his new city.

If horse is conveniently placed, might we prefer to settle for horse before copper?

Maybe, but I won't know where it's located in time for the next city to be planted because I decided to slot Sailing and Masonry in before AH in order to be able to dump hammers towards TP/GLH sooner. Overall I feel comfortable defending myself with just Copper given how much more production I have than Yuris right now plus the 10T warning of travel time.

Which forests are being chopped? My guess is the stone and the forest on the PH south of Kendall as those seem to offer the best improvement to productivity and defensibility but I suppose that also depends on where the workers can get to.

The two forested hills. I elected to leave the Stone alone because I wasn't going to be able to immediately quarry it after, which reduces the yield on the tile prematurely. Losing 1h for some number of turns (which nets to 2h 50% of the time) didn't seem worth it to me. Will come back to that soon after though once I'm ready to build Moai or whatever.

Love the theme btw. Hope we get to 20+ cities.

Does that imply that you plan to come back and improve these hills after the GLH is done rather than improving them as you do the chops?

Moai would be nice... OTOH we ideally want Pyramids to be able to take full advantage. This is probably looking too far out, since we do also need to think about defense, but I imagine if we get GLH other players would be tempted to potentially go for Pyramids as an alternative economy booster, albeit a more expensive one. Could we reasonably try to build 'Mids at Red dot with stone and hopefully Org Rel, or is that too ambitious?
