Josh's Civ 4 memoir. Chapter 2

Either works fine in this case. Since vanrober attacked you continuing to fight is perfectly acceptable. But you can just peace out and let them fight it out too if you want. Reduces the load for you.

I now wanted to explain how i saw the border in jesse's land. If you took Dormund when i toodk frankfour we would be witha  really akward border, since frankfourt would fork both your cities, Berlin and Dortmund (there is a picture on the report of turn 118 you did the 10th of september where oyu can look what i mean.

Also why i wanted to get frankfourt? Well its an extra city and thats always good, but the real and interesting thing is that if you had it we would have another hard border, i would have to forget about dormund and i would jsut get ESSEN, and that city is 3 tiles far from Frankfourt so again we would have a tense border like in banana city. And i really didnt want that to happen. I was scared of you plotting at me with your praets and i needed a nice border to make that harder.

Indeed it was harder that it costed me several cuirs to get that part of your land from you.

I hope that makes sense. In any case if you have any question, just feel free to ask me, i hope im able to tell you my thoughts the best i can.

Or you could just let me have all of JesseL land since I was the one that actually fought him wink . Good game nevertheless

Turn 208

Congrats to vabrober for the win, you deserve it!!.
Just so everyone knows, after my last report vabrober took banana city and dye city and then absolutely nothing happened for 20 turns.
I researched cuirassiers and began spamming those and that's all. Thanks for sticking around with me my faithful viewers, and your support!

One last thing before you go. What were my mistakes that you noticed? Or what could I do better?
1. I'm aware losing gem city to JesseL twice really slowed me down , so I guess I should be more careful to sudden attacks and city burn missions. Keep more units in border cities.
2. Losing a great medic wasn't ideal either, so probably take your time instead of russhing to attack cities before vabrober can get them.

Anything else???

Josh out.

Well i wasnt gonna let you get freely all the land with me sitting waiting you to become better than me. There is a good sentence that sais that the first one that atacks get less than the second atacking, because all the units will be with the first one that atacked.

Also if you would have wanted to keep thouse you would have had to keep whipign ahrd adn movign your units really far from your core, so you just couldnt contest easily.

Josh out.

I would say that you still need to focus on holding your border cities, i think you made the same mistake as in PB59, not enough defenders in vulnerable cities.

Also i would try to make a better border, your banana and rice cities were really far from your last cities, if you make them more compact it will cost less to mantain and it will be easier to defend them too, since you would need less turns of moving units between cities.

Another problem that you had was tons of farm instead of cottages, like i had tons of farms because i was in REP and had Serfdom too, which allowed me to make those farms easily into commerce, you hadnt an economical trait which made you have trouble with the economy when you captured. I think it would have made more sense to cottage all the jungled area of bananacity instead of farming it.

Also the castles, you made castles when i had cuirss that ignored such a building.

And finally i thought that you could fight Bellarch taking his Moai city and SH and TGLH easily isntead of fighting me. I thoguh i gave you full peace treaty instead of a cease of fire, which allowed you to trick me. MB, but if you had gone for Bellarch you would have ended witha  better possition proabably, i was surely winning either way. But this is just my vision, i might be wrong.

I actually think Josh should have attacked you the instant you attacked Rek. As mentioned Josh had no economic trait / not much chance for wonders, so have to keep ahead in cities to make up for. Letting someone who Oracle CoL get more territory than you while having a long border with them is just not going to end well.

He could have taken Bellarch's Moai city, but marching slow one movers to any other city takes time and its a logistical nightmare of an attack. Also have to worry about a backstab from you the entire time. Taking culturally new land across a long existing border on the other hand......

With the lake being there I identified to Bellarch early on that we should try to make a stable border and peaceful relations with Rome early on as I considered us natural allies geographically. I even got Bellarch to move our northern city after Josh planted in a spot that would have made the spot we wanted awkward.

He was in war with Jesse when i atacked Rekenner. So it was actually really hard for him to atack me, he was handling Jesse, thats why i atacked rekenner indeed.

I know i can be biased, but i do think what i exposed, Josh had knights in the moment im saying, so its not so weird what im saying, he had much more power than Bellarch in that moment since belalrch was just building buildings to consolidate the new land he just conquered. So i think it would have been a good mooment to take the wonders and the core of Bellarchs, instead of trying ot fight or handle border cities vs me. I have even giving him silver for free to set him as a friend.

I mean yes Josh could have played kingmaker, but you were clearly winning at that point, so maybe if he just wanted second /shrug.

I haven't fully read, but I doubt Jesse was giving Josh enough trouble he couldn't have kept rolling with Praets and cats.

I had better power because of the units but after my JesseL war I was bleeding gold, and everyone else was more technologically advanced , I think if I attacked Bellarch he would easily be capable of outproducing me with better units, but he concentrated on tech rather than units which was what he needed to get the advantage over Jack.
