My reply to Byzantium:

Quote:Hey Regoarrarr,

I will mainly be the voice for the Ottoman's. Kalin is currently away and unavailable for several more days so for now it is just me. Let me first say I did move Dice to the NW. However if you feel any unrest about that please do not. He will move SW next turn and further from you as the years pass in hopes to meet the mighty Greek. If you are still unsettled I would be happy to sign an immediate 10 turn NAP with no renewal or anything to pass that away. In regards to your initial proposal it sounds favourable to me but to properly agree to it I would want to consult with Kalin first.

We have currently met only the Incan's prior to yourself and yes they are approximately 10 tiles to our south. They told us that the ruined Zulu civ is to their SW which we have a scout on the way there and that prior to exterminating them, the Zulu revealed they had also met Rome. Make of that what you will.

Here's to hopefully a long lasting relationship,

Reply to the Incan's:

Quote:Hello Everybody,

Thank you for the information and do not worry about response time. I know very well what it is like to be busy (especially on weekends)!

We have now met Regoarrarr as well and he has directed us that the Greeks are due W of him. We shall endeavour to meet them asap.

In regards to an NAP how about we agree to Turn 100 on a flat NAP. That should give us both time to handle the initial expansion faze peacefully providing our other neighbours cooperate. Kalin is currently away and unavailable so to propose more at this point I feel wouldn't be fair to him however I would very much wish to continue our open conversations and renew the NAP closer to turn 100 and prossibly institute a cool down/auto-renewal feature in there as well.

In regards to a settling agreement, we feel it might be prudent to give a little our way so you can focus more on expanding into where Zulu was not only as there is more land there but also to deny Shaka of Rome of this land which could be critical to prevent too many Agg Praets running around. By no means are we suggesting the land between us as all ours, just that:
a) you have more room to expand into with Zulu gone
b) the denial value from Rome is huge
c) when we can come to an arrangement the land that we agree is yours you can settle peacefully as we will protect the northern border.

We do have a warrior trying to defog the land between us (stupid animals) and will give us a clearer idea soon but hopefully this gives you something to think about and brings some discussion to the table.

Also we have switched our espionage off of you and onto Byzantium as agreed (which I believe you have also done) and look forward to our continued cooperation.

Some diplomatic thoughts.

It's nice first of all to not have a FIN civ next to us. Hopefully that will allow us to get a leg up on one of our neighbours.

Having the Incan's and Byzantium next door, I'd prefer a longer term relationship with Byzantium. While I would consider them the stronger team, the way I see the map we would share a very long border with them (potentially) and to have that secured while we focus conquests elsewhere could be very beneficial. Also our UU would not do as well against them as it would against somebody with an Ancient UU (Incan's anybody???) once we get to that point.

We need peace with both neighbours to secure our expansion, and looking at the map it feels like we'll run into Byzantium borders first which is why we need to not only secure peace but a border agreement with the Incan's and a little prompting telling them to expand away from us could really help. Hopefully they listen. It does suddenly feel crowded though yikes!!!

K. Here's the land as we know it!

Here's Ellorrs. He didn't move this turn but will heal to 1.9/2 and then move SW.

Here's Dice. Moved NW to have a peek inside Byzantium. Can see their warrior Thomas. Also can see they haven't popped 3rd ring yet which means somebody did indeed found their 2nd city. Or does land not show up in the demogs until the same time it shows in the score?

Here's an overview of the land surrounding Coruscant. Michel the Byzantium warrior is nearby. Owen and Beru finished their roads this turn and will go onto mine the hill next. Bo Shek should hopefully defog the rest of the land between us and the Incan's.

And here's a look inside Coruscant. Not much but the first whip anger wears off next turn just in time to be replaced by the fear of safety one or whatever it is for a lack of MP.

Also the Byzantium capital Athens is at size 4 so they're probably building a settler though they're not in slavery yet.

An e-mail from Regoarrarr. I really enjoy that he responds so quickly smile. If the game develops as I hope it does I can really forsee us allying close to each other.

Quote:Hey Athlete,

As for Dice, that's disappointing but not the end of the world.

We remain interested in working with you and hope to hear back from you shortly with thoughts on our initial proposal

As well my response:

Quote:Hey Regoarrarr,

Did you want to secure that immediate 10 - 11 turn NAP say till turn 50? And when Kalin is back (early next week) we can confirm our intention to align more closely and sign a longer term NAP at that time? Or shall we go about our business as usual until we can formally assure you of a long term agreement?

Personally my initial thoughts are that you would make a great long-term ally so hopefully our UU's would not have to run into each other in any type of forceful manner (perhaps even work together) but as the game is young I feel it only fair to allow my teammate to have a say in the general direction of our civ.

I'm not sure of your definition of shortly but as mentioned above Kalin is away till early next week I believe so no formal confirmation will be put together until then. Just so you know so you're not wondering what's going on and what not.

All the best,

Question for the lurkers:

How's the read so far? Any requests for something? Sometimes I feel I miss putting down some of my thoughts but it's hard keeping every thought or intention I have straight and remembering them all when I get to a computer rolleye.

Very good - I enjoy your detail to screenshots. They make it much easier to understand what is going on than just text. Dot maps always get us lurkers excited... nod

I think you're doing well in conveying your thoughts and general plans. Occasionally it would be nice if you could sync the in-game clock with your thread by stating what turn you're on and what happened on that turn. When we're following 10 threads in parallel and trying to figure out what's going on it's really helpful. smile

Actually I might have time to get one done today smile

Question though: When people do their dot maps are they just editing the pictures in Paint or some other program? Or do people actually draw those lines out in game using the strategy layer or whatever?

Good idea! The most recent pictures are from turn 39 - year 2440 BC. I'll probably try and do a grand overview on turn 50 but really I do them when I know I have time to as it doesn't always work out I can do them on the nice round turns/years.
