I'll attempt to do some friendlyfication when I'm actually awake. (I just spent the last few hours in my PBEM45 spoiler thread so my head is swimming a bit. Also, it's 4am here and I really should probably be asleep.)

Okay. I'm not sure why Buddhism wouldn't be of interest other than the fact that there's nothing we can reasonably offer in return at present (that I can think of ). If we can come up with something there, it'd be a nice little relations boost ("hey, look, we can cooperate and stuff"). How are we as regards the happy cap?

We've basically told Gillette that at some point we intend to finish the job with M3. I don't see that as having changed despite the war's current end. Is there a policy decision to be made here? (I'm feeling vindictive. )

Also, their scouting warrior means they know how the Tortuga exchange went down, so spin ("we sold it") would be inappropriate.

So here's my twist:

Since M3 is a mutual problem, we figure it'd be appropriate and neighborly to let you know that we've opted to put our interesting times on temporary hold. M3 once again approached us about peace terms after taking Tortuga (which they've renamed Talking Parrot), and we've agreed so as to buy some time. The terms are a NAP until T100 and a mutual border agreement which is almost but not quite finalized.

We appreciate your confirmation of your location, and also the offer as regards your round orange Good News. Regarding the latter, we're unfortunately at a lack of things to offer back at present, and news of gods has been deemed a relatively low priority. We'll definitely keep the offer in mind for the future, though, and thank you for offering the possibility.

For ease of future communications, here's a sum-up where I think we stand with everybody and our intentions regarding them.


Gillette: Things seem relatively friendly, as we've been making attempts to open up to them and they seem to have responded (in particular with an offer of religion). Goals for now seem to be maintaining a friendly neighbor, some probable future small exchanges (taking that religion offer), and in a perfect world a mutual partition of M3's territory.

TEAM: Mutual silence due to deals that have lapsed from inaction. They'd asked us about a "border agreement" which would potentially be awkward right now (we previously foolishly suggested they could take the Blue Dot site as it was supposedly closer to them - I certainly hope they don't remember that!), so it's an open question as to whether or not we want to reopen relations.

Tropical Trolls: They seem to have more or less won a war against TEAM. This is either a bad thing (if we want to reopen deals with TEAM) or a good thing (if they've become Enemies Of Convenience). Otherwise, little discussion appears to have gone on.

M3: To paraphrase from Poe: "We continue to smile in their faces, as is our wont, and they do not perceive that our smile is now at the thought of their immolation." They're kind of sitting pretty, having achieved their objectives in this war, and they're trying to suggest that we've offered to cooperate. I was all about cooperation when they were talking peace prior to Tortuga's fall, but since they dumped those negotiations and charged ahead anyways I think our most constructive cooperation would be helping them to the peace of a watery grave (and we've implied as much to Gillette). Tortuga Shall Be Liberated!


Do other folks think this is accurate, and/or is there any details I missed? In particular, I'm wondering if most folks here are more or less hawkish about M3, and our prospects regarding Gillette and Trolls.

I prefer thestick's response with regard to our relations with M3. It's short and to the point. Maybe some compromise between the two messages.

War vs. M3 by T100 will most likely be guaranteed to go against us. Maybe in 20 turns we might have been able to come out victorious if we pushed only axes after settling Orange city (which I was advocating for a couple weeks ago, and still think we had a decent shot), but we're headed down the peace path now with our long NAP and by T100 M3 will most likely have catapults and WE which effectively eliminate the possibility of offensive war.

We got a message from M3 saying that 'no one can settle any cities in the red shaded area' is correct. I sent a message saying 'we accept your offer,' sealing the peace deal.

With M3, I think we'll just need to be friendly and wait for something to happen. Only question is whether they think we hate them or not.

Sorry to hear of this unfortunate turn of events. I guess we don't have much to discuss at the moment, but I'm sure at some point in the future our interests will coincide. In fact we're trying to get war chariots out ASAP to ensure we don't face the same fate.
