Nexomon Extinction

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 11:  Recurring Boss Named After A City

The next room looked like it was Plant themed, but wasn't in practice.  The Nexolord opened with a Level 32 Wind NAVRIGAL, which NOOCIDAL killed with two Soul Feeders and Leech damage.  STREAMOAD the Level 34 Water type was second, so FLOROZARD aimed a Vine Whip at it before it switched to Level 33 Wind DALSAE.  NOOCIDAL returned with Soul Feeder and Leech and struck down the bird.

STREAMOAD and FLOROZARD did battle again, but it wasn't Vine Whip's direct damage that killed the frog.  Bind side effect damage was similar to Leech but did not heal my team.  FELANIA froze the Level 32 THORNOX with Glaze and cast Slashing Current for the finisher.  Another Glaze destroyed MOJOMPU the Level 33 Normal type rabbit and caused FELANIA to evolve into YARNESTY.

The third Nexolord started with a Level 33 VOLPRESSOR Electric type which FLOROZARD scourged with Vine Whips.  Glaze from YARNESTY gave a fatal cold snap to the Level 33 BLOOMRIOL Plant.  OMECHARGE the 3-headed Level 33 Electric type won the award for Ugliest Nexomon and FLOROZARD Vine Whipped it to ensure the abomination couldn't escape.  Vine Whip and Bind also defeated OSTROLT the Level 34 Electric.  Last was the Level 34 MANTRASS Plant, but I'm not sure who killed it since there's no Switch video footage or screenshot.

Atlanta and NIVALIS had already knocked out the Nexolord in the 4th room, so HERMAN had to fight her instead.  ANTARZEN the Level 33 Water was prepared for FLOROZARD and Super Slammed and Super Punched my Grass type for 24-31 per hit.  Vine Whip reduced it to 4 HP when BLIZZAUR the Level 33 Water appeared and died to 2 Vine Whips.  YARNESTY's Glaze flash-froze the Level 32 Mineral SHARDRILLION in two hits, and a Slashing Current made ANTARZEN faint.

NIVALIS froze YARNESTY with Freeze and and switched to Level 34 Water VARAWIRL while YARNESTY was thawing out.  FLOROZARD sacrificed itself to VARAWIRL so NOOCIDAL could fight it with mutually "Not Effective!" attacks.  Why did VARAWIRL insist on Double Slash instead of a Water move?  NOOCIDAL's stats had improved so much in evolution that Soul Feeder was sufficient for VARAWIRL.  This wasn't good enough for NIVALIS, who launched a Hydro Sphere for the KO.  YARNESTY spent time in a block of ice until it defrosted and cast Glaze to reduce NIVALIS to 126/330 HP before dying.  RAPNUX's Super Punches secured victory.

Two dragons appeared at the top of Tomb of Omnicron, though HERMAN only had to fight the one on the left.  Level ?? VOLTA had 479 HP and FLOROZARD's Vine Whip only dropped it down to 324 with Effective damage before my Plant wilted to EMP.  Super Punch and fellow Physical move Plasma Cannon from RAPNUX knocked VOLTA to 199/479 HP as Lightning Roar defeaned my Physical type.  LUMEFUR broiled VOLTA with Incinerate to 81/479 HP as EMP jolted it.  Two Soul Feeders from NOOCIDAL sent VOLTA to hell.

Eliza the psychic from Immortal Citadel greeted HERMAN telepathically and told him about the resurrection machine blueprints.  He told her he was going to use the blueprints for himself instead of destroying them, and Coco wished he hadn't heard that.  HERMAN was promoted to Gold rank and could freeze some bodies of water after talking to Merida again.

My suspicions about the vault were correct!  HERMAN went back to the mine, froze a path across a pond, and used a Vault Key to find more of Spencer's Fortune.  The contents were some Coins, a Psychic Nexotrap, a Blizstrong Companion, and the Tribute of Ocean.  These Tributes probably create some ultimate Nexomon when all 9 are collected, though don't expect to see that in this Let's Play.  When I beat the game, I'll probably play with Custom Mode on another file.

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 12:  Aasdasdjhas sjajkasdsadasdasd adhasdashgasd asdsajkdh?

HERMAN warped back to the Orphanage to learn Amelie's whereabouts from Lydia.  She was hiding in the underwater city of Cadium, which had been covered up due to the Tamer's Guild failures.  Before he took a ride in a submarine, HERMAN found Vault #7 in a cave in the outskirts of the Orphanage area by jumping across a gap with Wind power.  It contained Coins, a Golden Nexotrap, a Lioness Companion, and the Tribute of Thunder.

(Golden Nexotraps are the same as Master Balls, but they're much more common in Nexomon Extinction since the monsters are waging a war against humanity rather than participating in regulated competitions.)

HERMAN and friends immediately found out why the Tamer's Guild didn't want people to know about Cadium:  everyone spoke as if they were bashing their home row of the keyboard!  The episode title is verbatim NPC dialogue.  To try to find someone who spoke English, I ran around the eastern area and took advantage of the Running Shoes passive bonus to flee random encounters.  Turned out I wasn't supposed to go there yet, but at least there was an Experience Booster at the end for more passive experience gain.

Derek the scientist was tending his garden to the west of town.  He confirmed Coco's idea that Cadium's people weren't speaking another language:  "They're just idiots".  Things started to go wrong when a president took over.  To convince Derek to help, HERMAN had to activate the 4 generators in the eastern section that I had already visited.  Coco asked why there were "wild Nexomon inside a submarine", and was told that it was a game.

Amelie's underwater laboratory was locked, and the only way to get in was to win the contest in The Mega Arena of Doom.  President Zetta and the spectators warned HERMAN that he'd have to win 3 battles in a row without using healing items in combat, but the joke was on them.  I HAD ALREADY BEEN PLAYING BY THOSE RULES!  (Did you really think this wasn't a variant playthrough?  tongue  )

Ross was the first opponent, and he led with a Level 39 Mineral BOULDCRAN.  Water Blasts from DOMIGATOR eroded it to red HP and he switched to the Level 39 Normal NAMANSI.  Soul Feeder sucked away enough HP to reduce NAMANSI to 46/140 HP, making Ross switch to Level 38 Psychic SUNNOS.  Soul Feeder and Dark Flame were enough damage to KO with a Leech one turn.  Dark Flames finished off BOULDCRAN and NAMANSI.

NOOCIDAL performed so well against Ross, it learned Invincible.  Invincible blocks attacks like Protect in Pokemon, but has 56 speed rather than infinite priority, and can be reused without fear of it failing.  Leech from Soul Feeder becomes free HP when combined with Invincible, and NOOCIDAL becomes a potential solo challenge candidate.  (It would probably take grinding to get there:  BEHILDA and HEDDECA's moves have mediocre attack power.)

Arena Battler #2 started with a Level 37 THRAMMER that FLOROZARD Vine Whipped down to red HP.  Next was a Level 39 Electric MINETOR that FLOROZARD Vine Whipped to death.  Fauna picked off THRAMMER before it could attack.  It really was easy when the opponent had only 2 Nexomon!

Arena Battler #3 was "wearing a trash can" and opened with a Level 40 JELIFLUX.  Pummel from DOMIGATOR dealt more damage than the enemy Water type could do with resisted attacks, and Trash Can Man switched to Level 40 Mineral LUNABELLE when JELIFLUX was at around half HP.  DOMIGATOR continued the assault with Water Blast until it reached around 38/140 HP.  DOMIGATOR died not much later.

FLOROZARD sunk JELIFLUX with a Fauna while at 1 HP, but wasn't fast enough for LUNABELLE.  RAPNUX blew a Gust at LUNABELLE and defeated the Mineral.  Last was SWACTRUM, a Level 39 Ghost.  LUMEREI launched Incinerates as SWACTRUM fought back with Super Punch and Black Flame.  LUMEREI only had 48 HP by the end, but it was still a victory.  President Zetta was really a son of Omnicron and gave the Electric power to HERMAN without a fight.

Zetta was confused as to why the Cadium people were acting stupid, but he did plan to destroy the city to prevent VADOS from escaping if HERMAN hadn't visited.  Vados's Domain was a teleporter maze that required HERMAN to switch laser positions with the new Electric power.  No clues about how to proceed, just trial and error.

Amelie gave her speech about how VADOS would keep humanity safe, and prevent the current cities from falling like Solus, the original Ignitia, and Royalle City.  Logan summoned the Electric Tyrant BOLZEN to prevent HERMAN from stopping VADOS, and it was a difficult fight!  Even resisted attacks like Electric Storm and Thunder struck FLOROZARD for up to 41 damage.  Vine Whip flayed BOLZEN down to 362/518 HP before FLOROZARD was killed.

RAPNUX Super Punched BOLZEN to 282/518 HP, but couldn't launch a Plasma Cannon when a Paralyzed printout appeared.  LUMEREI's Incinerate and Fire Stigma fried BOLZEN to 142/518 until Thunder Blast electrocuted the cat for 48 HP.  NOOCIDAL's Soul Feeder + Invincible tactic was successful.  Leech must be based on a percentage of max HP, since NOOCIDAL was healing at BOLZEN's expense for 51 HP per round.

VADOS's capsule was also a rocket, and Amelie launched it to the surface.  President Zetta's escape plan was a terrible idea, since his submarine led directly to the Tamer's Guild capital of Parum.  HERMAN and friends were immediately imprisoned and would be banished to Lateria, the hostile city mentioned many times earlier.

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 13:  Plot Twists

Zetta tried to break HERMAN and friends out of the Laterian jail, but failed when the guards defeated him.  "I guess being dead made me weaker".  Mentor, however, opened the door with his unexplained powers and told HERMAN to meet him at the Laterian observatory.  I had to go through a simple stealth section to get my items back, but it wasn't annoying like in other video games.  There was a joke about Videll still having her pickaxe in her character portrait after the guards took it from her.

When HERMAN was about to enter town, Edward of the Tamer's Guild pardoned him for escaping on the condition that he stayed away from VADOS.  Outside of the wall to the left was Repel Spray, a key item that disabled random encounters when equipped "including caves!".  HERMAN traded a few surplus Shards for several items including a passive Experience Booster.

Mentor and the ghosts of Omnicron's children told the truth about HERMAN's backstory.  He was actually Deena's son and thus a Tyrant and claimant to the King of Monsters throne.  That explained the frequent dragon attacks, including the incident 15 years ago in Drake Isles when HERMAN was born.  The Tyrant egg was actually a fake made to make HERMAN believe that his powers weren't really his, in order to prevent being corrupted.  Eliza enjoyed the ruse in the flashback, saying "I'm gonna call it something super dumb.  Like 'Tyrant of Light' or whatever, teehee!"

The next Tyrant was to the east of Lateria, and it was a race between HERMAN and VADOS to see who would take it out first.  HERMAN did have enough time to enter a cave and open Vault #9, which had Coins, a Discount Voucher, a Lunabelle Companion, and the Tribute of Stone.  HERMAN found the wedding ring from Frozen Tundra by a tree, so remind me to teleport back there to fulfill that quest.  As Coco says "Thankfully, we live in a world divided by 64 X 64 blocks".

Celine the Renegade of Sand and her Mineral Tyrant PETRAM would have started the next boss fight. . .if HERMAN didn't use Merida's power to freeze the latter.  Instead, there was a more conventional battle.  Celine started with a Level 43 Electric EQOLOPTERA whom FLOROZARD Vine Whipped down to 41 HP before it switched to a Level 41 Fire BOMBLASTA.  DOMIGATOR Water Blasted BOMBLASTA while taking heavy damage from resisted Blazes and knocked it out.

EQOLOPTERA came back only to face FLOROZARD again, who flayed it alive with Vine Whip.  YARNESTY cast Glaze against the Level 42 Mineral WARGOYLE and froze it.  My Wind cat finished it off with Slashing Current at its leisure.  A Level 42 Electric MINETOR came next, another victim to FLOROZARD's Vine Whips.  MINETOR switched out to the Level 43 Grass SIKIPHA before dying, a better Nexomon than the rest of Celine's team.

SIKIPHA defeated LUMEREI in spite of its bad matchup against Fire with 36 damage Forest Energy.  NOOCIDAL used the Invincible + Soul Feeder combo to send the genie back to its lamp, and a Soul Feeder + Dark Flame shut down MINETOR.  Last was a Level 41 Mineral OREGOON, who was drained dry with Leech from Soul Feeder.

PETRAM didn't remain frozen for long, since Celine pointed out it was a hot desert.  It didn't take any damage either because it started with a full 604 HP.  DOMIGATOR attempted to re-freeze it with Ice Assault, but my Water type was wounded in the previous battle and couldn't withstand a Drill.  YARNESTY's Glaze dealt more damage but still failed to freeze PETRAM, who reduced my damage with Rock Wall.  YARNESTY lost one round to confusion damage and fell to Drill after reducing PETRAM to 307 HP.  NOOCIDAL's Soul Feeder + Invincible tactic saved me once more.  My Ghost recovered 60 HP per round, and started casting Dark Flame when low on Stamina to knock PETRAM out.

VADOS fired its laser from far away and left a crater where PETRAM once stood.  Only Eliza's prescience saved HERMAN and Celine from death.  HERMAN would have no chance at a peaceful life as long as VADOS existed, so his only option was to recruit the surviving Tyrants and become the new King of Monsters.  Finally the readers may see different Nexomon on my roster!  HERMAN received a Laterian Sigil to convince the residents to be friendly rather than hostile to him.  (Some Laterian shops refused service to HERMAN since he was a Tamer's Guild member.)

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 14:  In Which The Level Curve Overtakes My Party

Hannah the letter recipient from a sidequest was promoted to minor main plot antagonist when she kidnapped Atlas the robot.  She was hiding in ruins near Lateria that had what looked like police tape on one of the walls.  Hannah's plans were foiled when she found out Atlas "can't mine bitcoin".  She should have tried buying all the graphics cards so Realms Beyond members couldn't upgrade their PCs.

Hannah started with a Level 44 Water HAINOK.  FLOROZARD seemed to be winning with Vine Whip until HAINOK cast Ice Flakes and froze my Plant.  Once FLOROZARD was helpless at 50 HP, Hannah switched to the Level 45 Fire type CUISIZLE.  DOMIGATOR confronted CUISIZLE until Level 45 Electric FRICTINGLE showed up.  RAPNUX Super Punched and FRICTINGLE once hit with a 54 power Combo.  For an Electric type, FRICTINGLE loved Physical moves.  A Plasma Cannon finisher missed and FRICTINGLE clobbered RAPNUX with Combo.  NOOCIDAL avenged its partner with a Dark Flame.

DOMIGATOR returned to finish off CUISIZLE with Water Blast and Explosive Water, dodging a Super Punch in the process.  ARISPAUVA the Level 43 Physical type was next, but had surprisingly good type coverage when it cast Burn for 43 damage against NOOCIDAL and Burn status.  Physical types in Nexomon Extinction seem to specialize in a secondary attack type:  RAPNUX is a pseudo Wind, and ARISPAUVA is pseudo Fire.  This is probably because other Nexomon elements get Physical attacks in addition to their native moveset.  I switched in FLOROZARD as a sacrifice due to lack of better ideas.  LUMEREI fared better since ARISPAUVA had no resistance to Incinerate.

NOOCIDAL was sacrifice switched to HAINOK so YARNESTY could freeze it with Glaze and take it down to red HP.  RAPILUX the Level 44 Physical type entered the arena after that.  A Super Slam ground pounded DOMIGATOR for the KO, and LUMEREI cast Incinerate to scare it away.  Fire Stigma's high priority picked off RAPILUX and HAINOK and won the battle.  My party was only Level 38-42 at the time, and when you're underleveled in Nexomon Extinction, you have to think like Stalin.

Mentor pointed out the flaw in the VADOS plan:  it wasn't a Nexomon and could never be acknowledged as king, so new Tyrants would constantly emerge.  VADOS would have to blast them all with lasers, destroying most of the world in the process.

Drake Isles was the perfect place to set up Atlas as a Tyrant radar.  It looked like HERMAN was about to catch Legendary tier Nexomon. . .when VADOS killed NIVALIS, MULCIMER, EURUS, and BOLZEN simultaneously.  HERMAN's only choice was to find the last surviving Tyrant hidden in Khan Woods, a location next to Parum that was blocked off for most of the game.  Bonnie was gullible enough to give HERMAN her Access Card.  HERMAN destroyed the boulder with Mentor's Earth power and entered a Hidden Village that no Tamer's Guild member had seen before.

Deena had hidden Lord Tikala in the village, but two Tamer's Guild enemies in pith hats were about to attack.  HERMAN and his Nexomon defeated them, even when their monsters were at Levels 46-48 and the party hadn't improved much since Hannah.  Scaling for enemy tamers and rematches seems to be based on story progress rather than your party.

Remember the blueprints for the resurrection machine?  Well, those were pointless since HERMAN inherited Deena's Life powers.  Hilda, the one who caused so many NPCs to become ghosts, revealed this information to HERMAN.  Tikala displayed 5 special warpstones in front of him, each sending HERMAN close to one of the dead Tyrant "trees" that contained their souls.

NIVALIS lay in a section of Tomb of Omnicron that I hadn't visited before.  One masked Evil Team Member and a Nexolord cult leader attacked in back to back battles.  HERMAN could barely survive the first member who had Level 48-50 versions of the following monsters:  STALAGCA (Mineral), ZAPPNIC (Electric), BISINA (Physical), and HARECTIC (Water).  But he wasn't allowed to heal before Round 2 with a full enemy team of 6 and the boss music, and lost twice.

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 15:  More Level Curve Woes

I had put off Palmaya for the entire game, but my Nexomon needed to take a vacation and gain experience.  HERMAN crafted 4 copies Experience Booster III to speed up the power leveling.  Before leaving Parum, he told an interviewer his tactics:  "I JUST REPEAT THE SAME SKILL", and his favorite element "NOT FIRE".

Palmaya seemed to be purely optional.  The NPCs even mentioned how peaceful it was there, and how there weren't any Tyrants (i.e. no reason for VADOS to zap them).  Tamers still had the upper 40s level range, but they didn't have full teams of 6 and their monsters were usually weaker than the main antagonists.  One was appropriate for a beach area:  TIKI the Fire type tiki torch.  NOOCIDAL finally learned a base 100 Ghost attack called Arcane Magic, but Soul Feeder was still useful for its Leech effects.  YARNESTY replaced Tackle with Plasma Star, a 110 power Physical move.

The Nexolord opened with a Level 50 VARAWIRL (Water).  FLOROZARD was at 96/166 HP from the previous fight, and its opponent had 271 HP.  My Plant couldn't even reduce VARAWIRL to half HP before falling to resisted Water Blasts.  LUMEREI fought the Level 49 FOREER (Plant) with Incinerate, but FOREER had the foresight to use Palm Flurry instead of a Grass attacks.  Elemental resistances are less useful for the player in the late game.  LUMEREI's last resort was Conflagration, a suicide move that still only hit for 128 with a critical and elemental advantage.  It's no Explosion from Pokemon, that's for sure!

DOMIGATOR was wounded from the previous battle but managed to injure Level 50 BLAZETILIA (Fire) to 62/247 HP with Explosive Water before going down.  RAPNUX's Plasma Cannon destroyed BLAZETILIA though its Physical type failed to protect it at all from Incinerate.  RAPNUX stayed in against Level 49 LURKENNIE (Ghost) and attacked with Gusty Storm and Super Punch until it switched to. . .Level 49 RAPNUX.  My RAPNUX hurled a Gust at the impostor before falling to Super Punch.

Invincible + Soul Feeder's Leech destroyed VARAWIRL, and NOOCIDAL's other moves Arcane Magic and Dark Flame annihilated RAPNUX.  NOOCIDAL spent a couple of turns regaining Stamina before casting Soul Feeder on LURKENNIE. Only a Rock Punch from Level 51 SHARDRILLION (Mineral) could stop NOOCIDAL.  YARNESTY was at full HP, and keeping it in reserve during the previous battle was the correct move.  Slashing Current and Glaze blew away the Nexolord's final two Nexomon.

NIVALIS agreed to join HERMAN, but only in the final battle since it was going to be a sneak attack on Parum.  If HERMAN carried around a Water Tyrant everywhere, VADOS would vaporize him.

The next stop was the desert east of Lateria, where PETRAM the Mineral Tyrant was killed.  But Tamer's Guild members had brought the soul "tree" to an encampment.  HERMAN had to bribe 6 Laterian mercenaries with Coins, Shards, or healing items to convince them to plunder the encampment.  (This quest sounds like it could make the game unwinnable if played with certain Custom Mode settings. . .)

Celine didn't want PETRAM to be resurrected since the Tyrant would only suffer more.  She challenged HERMAN to a fight with Levels 50-52 of the following Nexomon:  CANINUI (Psychic), IMBURION (Fire), GOATLANCHE (Physical), QUARMOR (Mineral), OREGOON (Mineral), TRESAUR (Mineral).  Psychic types in Nexomon Extinction are almost as lethal as their Pokemon Red equivalent, since those that resist it are mutually ineffective (Psychic and Mineral).  Ghosts are super effective, but also have a weakness to Psychic.

Physical types are much weaker than Normal types in Pokemon.  Both versions are neutral at best against any other type, but Physical types have proportionately more weaknesses (Psychic, Ghost).  Same type attack bonus doesn't seem to exist in Nexomon, and that advantage is why Return works so well in Pokemon.  Nexomon are also sturdier than Pokemon, and it's rare to see them die in one hit.  In Nexomon Extinction, the difficulty is balanced around a team of 6 specialists.  Think of Physical types as Nexomon Extinction's version of Kimahri.

That digression is meant to explain my team's bad matchup against Celine and two fatalities:

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 16:  Penultimate Part?

HERMAN fought tamers around the world until all of his Nexomon were Levels 50-53, then fought a rematch with Celine.  I started with NOOCIDAL and attacked with Soul Feeder to inflict 25 damage per round Leech on CANINUI, but Celine switched to IMBURION during the Invincible setup.  Soul Feeder didn't Leech IMBURION like I had hoped, but Burn was a free turn thanks to Invincible.  (It blocks the next attack, rather than only lasting for one round.)

NOOCIDAL tagged out to DOMIGATOR, who sprayed Water Blast at IMBURION until it reached slightly over half HP and switched to GOATLANCHE.  Two Soul Feeders against GOATLANCHE caused CANINUI to reappear, and Arcane Magic finished off the Psychic.  DOMIGATOR and IMBURION dueled again, and Water Blast put out the Fire monster.  NOOCIDAL was offered as a sacrifice switch to GOATLANCHE's Lightning Roar since it was so low on HP.

RAPNUX punched and kicked GOATLANCHE with Combo.  YARNESTY's Glaze was like liquid nitrogen against QUARMOR, OREGOON, and TRESAUR, but the Wind cat eventually ran low on Stamina and had to let DOMIGATOR steal the glory.

The mayor of New Ignitia was easily fooled by "Black Nexomite", which was just 5 Phantom Shards glued together.  MULCIMER refused to join HERMAN's cause without a fight, however, and it had 745 HP (!).  DOMIGATOR Water Blasted and launched Explosive Water until the Fire Tyrant dropped to 348 HP, and then fell to a 74 power Double Slash.  (Does anyone else think MULCIMER looks like Giratina?)  RAPNUX used its martial arts Combo to drop MULCIMER to 258 health, but was roasted with a 71 Blaze before it could fire Plasma Cannon.  Double Slashes and a Fire Stigma from LUMEREI convinced MULCIMER to fight against VADOS.

EURUS may have been friendly to HERMAN, but Xanders wasn't.  He was the only Tamer's Guild member to realize what HERMAN was planning.  He started with a Level 55 DOMIGATOR that switched to Level 54 BOILGOG (Fire) when FLOROZARD Vine Whipped it.  Xanders must not have had an answer for Water Nexomon when he switched from BOILGOG to Level 54 BARBORACO (Fire).  The enemy DOMIGATOR returned when BARBORACO was soaking from Water Blasts.  Vine Whip and a Fauna struck down DOMIGATOR, though FLOROZARD wouldn't have survived that duel without a Pummel miss.

FLOROZARD's Super Slam sent BARBORACO to red HP, but this was FLOROZARD's last move.  Water Blast drowned the pig.  IMMORTIS the Level 54 Ghost mummy was an obvious target for LUMEREI's Incinerate and Fire Stigma, and my Fire cat only last 30 HP in that duel.  Confusion unfortunately made YARNESTY's fight against Level 55 FORTANK (Mineral) impossible.

BOILGOG returned and started healing itself.  Level 56 GRATH (Fire) and its Sonic Scream shattered DOMIGATOR's eardrums.  RAPNUX forced FORTANK to retreat with Gusty Storms, and Combos condenses BOILGOG after an initial miss.  Plasma Cannon besieged FORTANK, and another GRATH Sonic Scream deafened RAPNUX at last.  LUMEREI repeated the MULCIMER tactic of "use Double Slash against the Fire type".  Nadine sent Xanders flying off Drake Isles.

The next Tyrant to find was BOLZEN in Cadium.  At first the characters thought Logan was preventing BOLZEN's resurrection, but he was innocent.  In fact, HERMAN had to save him from a Level 57 ACEGON (Fire) with 594 HP.  DOMIGATOR sacrificed itself to put out some of its flame, or drop it to 259/594 HP.  Double Slash and a finishing Fire Stigma from LUMEREI was as successful against ACEGON as any other Fire type.

Ziegler, "Warden of the Netherworld", claimed the dead Tyrants' souls and was furious that HERMAN was resurrecting them.  He had two previously unseen Legendary Nexomon:  the Psychic DARINE and the Ghost TITAN.  DARINE had 408 HP and Titan had 687, and proved an opponent didn't need a full team to cause a Game Over.  TITAN'S Rocknite Burst smacked NOOCIDAL for 104 HP on a critical, and triple digit damage is rare in Nexomon Extinction.  YARNESTY came close to victory with a Glaze freeze, though a resisted Rocknite Burst was HERMAN's downfall.

DEATH COUNT:  7

It was time for another leveling session in Palmaya.  Some spare Shards were combined into a Destruction Core III and a Protection Core III for NOOCIDAL.  My Ghost starter hoped to roll for Leech percentage damage against DARINE with Soul Feeder, but ultimately failed and was swept away by a 148 (!) Tsunami.  Plant was super effective against Psychic but did not resist Psychic attacks, so FLOROZARD was the best option.  Vine Whip lashed DARINE down to 113 HP and forced it to switch to TITAN.

Leech may have failed, but Burn from LUMEREI's Incinerate worked spectacularly against TITAN:  54 at the end of each round.  TITAN didn't stay for long, and FLOROZARD flayed DARINE alive.  Too bad for TITAN that Burn wasn't a timed status effect.  LUMEREI stayed in the ring until dying, but TITAN was down to 145 HP by that time.  RAPNUX gained two levels with one Gusty Storm finisher.  Eliza and Hilda copied VADOS's laser animation to send Ziegler back to the underworld, and now all Tyrants were on HERMAN's side.

VADOS now knew the Tyrants were alive again, but didn't know where they were.  VADOS was concerned about destroying Parum with collateral damage, though Amelie thought it might be necessary to destroy the capital if it meant getting rid of the Tyrants for good.

It looks like the next episode will be the final battle.  Can't wait to try out the Legendary Nexomon!

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 17:  Elite 4 In A Professionally Published Pokemon Fangame

The Nexolord brought all of the former Tyrant tamers to Tomb of Omnicron.  "After all, what is a king without his vassals?"  To draw VADOS away from Parum, HERMAN needed a distraction:  an airship crash.  Just like that scene from the beginning of the game.  To get an airship, he had to be promoted to Grandmaster.  Grandmaster had several prerequisites:  Gold rank (via story), Reputation of at least 600 (had over 900), and a "combat challenge".

"Combat challenge" meant "defeat 4 trainers in a row with only minor passive healing from key items between fights".  Since I wasn't using healing items in battle either, this was the true challenge of the variant.  Each type specialist before the final battle had four Nexomon in the Level 57-60 range:  Nolan for Water, Finn for Fire, and Riley for Electric.  Nolan's team had a tendency to freeze my Nexomon, and on the first attempt they were in no shape for Finn and his KEROSION.  YARNESTY was the last to fall.  Back to the grind!

DEATH COUNT:  8

My next attempt limped past Riley with YARNESTY, RAPNUX, and NOOCIDAL still alive.  YARNESTY replaced Slashing Current with its ultimate Wind move Cyclone, with 150 power and 90 accuracy.  The Admin herself was the final opponent and had a full team of Physical and Psychic types.  Cyclone dealt an impressive 106 damage to the LIONESS (Physical), but it wasn't enough to beat 6 monsters.  TUNDROX (Psychic) and its Psy Geyser burst on RAPNUX.  TUNDROX Super Slammed a Paralyzed NOOCIDAL for an Admin victory.  Back to power leveling!

DEATH COUNT:  9

HERMAN opened Vault #1 by burning the plants at the entrance, and gained the Tribute of Power along with money, a Ghost Nexotrap, and a Holoch Companion.  NOOCIDAL replaced Arcane Magic with its 150 power move Eternal Darkness, and LUMEREI swapped out Incinerate for a 150 power Solar Flare.  Much of that grinding session took place in Palmaya according to the backround on a screenshot. Another take against Admin failed when her Level 60 GRUNCH (Psychic) Mind Controlled YARNESTY.

DEATH COUNT:  10

FLOROZARD survived Nolan on another attempt by setting up Green Sphere to restore its HP and Stamina after the next turn.  It was only 30% for each, but the mild Water attacks meant FLOROZARD was at high HP after each Vine Whip.  LUMEREI finished off a Demotivated FELCLAW to get past Finn.  FLOROZARD returned to battle Riley and lashed most of the Electric types with Vine Whip.  The hideous Level 60 OMECHARGE cast Electric Current to kill FLOROZARD with a high amperage.  RAPNUX avenged the Grass type with a Palm Flurry.

DOMIGATOR with 145/219 HP stared down LIONESS and cast Ice Assault, trying to freeze Admin's 1st Nexomon.  Howling Winds sent DOMIGATOR flying after a whiffed Explosive Water.  NOOCIDAL was as healthy as could be and sent LIONESS to Eternal Darkness for 173.  NOOCIDAL stayed on the battlefield when Level 61 OROLOGIKUS (Psychic) showed up.  Mind Control unnerved NOOCIDAL for 56, followed by a pathetic Tackle, but two Eternal Darknesses sent HOROLOGIKUS to the void.  Eternal Darkness and Dark Flame sent Level 60 TUNDROX (Psychic) to red HP and it switched to Level 59 HORGET (Psychic).  A Psychic Bomb detonated on NOOCIDAL for the KO.

LUMEREI's Solar Flare seared HORGET to 204/321 HP, but a 21 Telepathy struck down the wounded Fire starter.  When I sent in YARNESTY, a rival Level 59 RAPNUX exited its Nexotrap.  Two Palm Flurries made RAPNUX tag out to TUNDROX, whom RAPNUX blew away with Gusty Storm.  More Gusty Storms reduced HORGET to red HP, and its Psychic Bomb shrapnel killed RAPNUX.  Only a full HP YARNESTY remained.  After Glazes and Cyclones, only YARNESTY and GLUNCH were alive.  YARNESTY survived with 23/226 HP and shot a Plasma Star at GLUNCH to claim the Grandmaster title!  Even after all that powerleveling, it was still a close battle.

HERMAN's last mission was to warp back to the Orphanage and plan the attack on Parum.  Will that be the last post for real?

Super Punch replaced Invincible in case NOOCIDAL needed to fight Water types with a neutral attack.  DOMIGATOR is a medium tier Rare Nexomon, so it doesn't get a 150 power Water move.  Then again, FLOROZARD doesn't have a 150 power move, and it's Mega Rare.  RAPNUX would get Disruption Ray if I had leveled it to 65.  All that might be irrelevant if the rumors in the story about a 6 Tyrant team for the final battle are true.

EDIT:  The type chart can be found on PQube's website.  Super effective moves yield +25% damage, and resisted attacks are reduced to 65% of normal damage.  A Mineral type would have been a good replacement for RAPNUX due to its advantage against Fire and Electric.

Nexomon Extinction's "no items in battle" challenge is complete, but the story is too long to post right now.  Wait until tomorrow evening and you'll probably see it.  I'll give you a detail:  NIVALIS was never used!  tongue

(And the DEATH COUNT is involved.)

There is a postgame about catching the Legendary Nexomon, but I have Custom Mode in mind instead.  It won't be a solo, but you might laugh when you find out what the next variant is.

I've enjoyed Nexomon Extinction a lot!  The limited type coverage and high leveled enemies make you use all 6 team members.  The single player campaign is much more challenging, and is less linear than the later Pokemon games.  Tactics in a "no items" playthrough tend to what Smogon user would call "bulky offense".  Each Nexomon takes multiple hits to kill, but heavy defense is not viable when recovery moves heal 30% and Stamina is dwindling.  All of this may change in the Custom Mode challenge. . .

Nexomon Extinction No Items Story Mode Finale Part 1:  Rolling The Credits Too Soon

To distract VADOS long enough for the airship plan to work, HERMAN needed to ascend the Tamer's Guild tower in Parum and distract VADOS with a battle.  Xanders had survived being thrown off Drake Isles and led with a Level 62 BOILGOG (Fire).  DOMIGATOR hosed it down with Water Blast until it switched to Level 62 TRESAUR (Mineral).  TRESAUR was clever enough to shoot Plasma Star at YARNESTY instead of ineffective Mineral moves, and my Wind cat was already down to 89/229 HP before it could launch its first Cyclone.  After the 2nd Cyclone, BOILGOG returned and DOMIGATOR dominated it with Water Blast.

A Level 60 WARGOYLE (Mineral) entered the ring next, but as soon as YARNESTY switched in, Xanders sent in TRESAUR as a Glazed sacrifice.  Level 62 GRATH (Fire) missed a Spinning Kick against DOMIGATOR, who retaliated with Water Blast.  WARGOYLE returned, but it was weak to Water anyway so DOMIGATOR tried Ice Assault after Pummel missed.  The second Pummel hit, though Ice Assault and Water Blast sentenced WARGOYLE to a conversation with the Ultima IX Avatar in the afterlife.

FLOROZARD participated when Level 63 BLIZZAUR (Water) entered the arena.  I tried to set up Green Sphere but was foiled when Xanders switched to GRATH and FLOROZARD tagged out to DOMIGATOR.  My Water type was only at 28 HP when it slew GRATH with Explosive Water.  RAPNUX was healthy so it was sent in against Level 62 RUSTUNG (Mineral).

Unfortunately, a Combo Demotivated RAPNUX and made me lose a turn.  Gusty Storm was moderately effective but could not hope to win against Rocknite and Sonic Scream.  NOOCIDAL cast Eternal Darkness to condemn RUSTUNG.  Super Punch finally saw use against BLIZZAUR.  NOOCIDAL's Physical prowess weakened BLIZZAUR enough for FLOROZARD's Vine Whips to lash it to death.

The ghost of Ulzar regretted his decision to kill Omnicron and create a King of Monsters succession crisis.  Ross and Nora objected to Amelie and VADOS's plans and sided with HERMAN.  Edward the Grandmaster, however, stood in my way and started a battle by summoning Level 63 DOMIGATOR.  I switched in FLOROZARD and set up Green Sphere for healing followed by a Vine Whip.  Enemy damage was more than 30%, so Green Sphere wouldn't have kept FLOROZARD alive for long.  Pressing the attack with Vine Whip made Edward switch to. . . Level 62 LUMEREI?  At this point I thought Edward was going to copy my entire team.

My own DOMIGATOR destroyed LUMEREI with Water Blasts and Explosive Water.  When Level 62 FOREER (Plant) appeared, I was relieved that it wasn't a mirror match.  LUMEREI blasted FOREER with two Solar Flares for the KO, though it sustained heavy damage from a Double Slash.  LUMEREI's own Double Slash struck down DOMIGATOR, and LUMEREI barely withstood an Ice Assault.

FLOROZARD used Green Sphere once more against Golbat. . .er. . .GOBLAT, a Level 62 Electric type.  It helped that GOBLAT lost turns to Vine Whip's Bind side effect.  Fauna was a fast finisher.  Level 63 SHARDBERG (Psychic) came next, and hurled a Psy Bomb at FLOROZARD as my Plant type scourged it with Vine Whip.  SHARDBERG retreated at low HP and switched to Level 63 GRADOW (Ghost).  NOOCIDAL cleaned up the rest of Edward's team with Eternal Darkness and Dark Flame finishers.

When VADOS asked "Is that all you have, Herman (sic)?", Coco replied "We have an airship".  HERMAN's Grandmaster airship slammed into VADOS, and Coco said "Let the credits roll!"  A few seconds of the credits screen aired until Eliza ordered them to stop and warped them all onto the airship to finish the game properly.

Nexomon Extinction No Items Story Mode Finale Part 2:  In Which Coco's Name Is Lost To History

Aboard the airship, Ulzar's ghost offered a chance to go back in time before fighting Edward, in case players were stuck in an unwinnable situation.  PROTOVADOS stared down HERMAN on the deck, and began the fight as a Ghost type with 992 HP.  PROTOVADOS cast Eternal Darkness on LUMEREI, who shot a Solar Flare.  PROTOVADOS became a Fire type to resist more of LUMEREI's attacks, so I was forced to switch to DOMIGATOR.  PROTOVADOS and DOMIGATOR exchanged Solar Flares and Water Blasts until the former became a Water type with 576 HP.  DOMIGATOR had critical HP at this point, so it made a last stand with Pummel until a Tsunami crashed into it.

FLOROZARD volunteered for service this time.  Green Sphere had no hope of overcoming PROTOVADOS's resisted damage, so it went all out with Vine Whip.  PROTOVADOS converted into a Wind type at 236 HP and caused FLOROZARD to switch to LUMEREI.  PROTOVADOS cast Slashing Current instead of a stronger move like Cyclone, and LUMEREI took advantage of that to cast Fire Stigma until PROTOVADOS became an EMP casting Electric type with 127 HP.  Pulse Storm electrocuted LUMEREI and PROTOVADOS became a Plant type for the last duel with FLOROZARD.  A Super Slam + Fauna eliminated PROTOVADOS's 1st form.

HERMAN himself became the Nexomon for Phase 2, which was more of a cutscene than a battle.  His true form SOLUS was a Psychic type with 254 HP, which seemed miniscule compared to PROTOVADOS's 1008 HP.  But PROTOVADOS's attacks only hit for around 20 damage while my Psy Rays seared for at least 258.

My character was sent to a volcano area called Journey's End for the final confrontation.  Hilda offered to send HERMAN back in time, while another NPC was a healer.  Amelie's last stand began with a Level 64 NOOCIDAL that knew Eternal Darkness.  Two Solar Flares from my LUMEREI forced Amelie to switch to Level 63 HAINOK (Water).  FLOROZARD's Vine Whips flayed HAINOK to less than half HP and made it tag out to Level 62 DRACON (Fire).  DOMIGATOR's Water Blasts scared away DRACON and Level 63 NAMANSI (Physical) entered the ring.

NAMANSI's Disruption Rays wounded NOOCIDAL for 67 despite its resistance to Physical, though Eternal Darkness made NAMANSI close its eyes for the last time.  Another Vine Whip from FLOROZARD against HAINOK made DRACON reappear.  DRACON Incinerated DOMIGATOR and switched to Level 63 TRESAUR (Mineral) before LUMEREI could Double Slash it.  YARNESTY's gale force Cyclone and Glaze were too much for TRESAUR, and another Glaze outran the enemy NOOCIDAL and exorcised it.  My NOOCIDAL's Dark Flame charred DRACON and HAINOK, and Eternal Darkness mortally wounded the final Nexomon, Level 64 FELIBLANQO (Psychic).  RAPNUX finally learned its 150 power Physical move Disruption Ray after the last tamer battle.

VADOS had evolved since the airship fight.  It looked like it only had 253 HP and was always Ghost type, but it resurrected itself automatically each time it was defeated.  FLOROZARD was the last to go down when VADOS rained a Meteor Shower on it.

FINAL DEATH COUNT:  11

Losing the VADOS battle forced me to confront Amelie again, but this was merciful since I could power level by beating her losing to VADOS over and over in a worst case scenario.  My team was at Level 64-67 when they tried again.  LUMEREI took the lead and fired Solar Flares until dying to Meteor Showers.  NOOCIDAL's Eternal Darkness emptied the first and second HP bar, and VADOS used a resisted Super Slam for unknown reasons.  FLOROZARD tried Vine Whip and Fauna as VADOS pelted it with Meteor Showers.  DOMIGATOR's Water Blast exhausted the third and fourth HP bar, and the script ended the battle.

SOLUS and VADOS dueled again, but this time it was a scripted loss.  The Tyrants made their dramatic entrance, and the final team was at Level 67:  NIVALIS, PETRAM, MULCIMER, EURUS, BOLZEN, and SOLUS's evolved form OMNISUN (Psychic).  For a final boss, the solution was easy:  switch to the appropriate Tyrant whenever VADOS changed types, and use a 150 power attack.  When OMNISUN launched enough Psy Rays, VADOS became a Water type with 1367/1572 HP.  BOLZEN activated EMP until VADOS turned into a Mineral with 1158/1572.  EURUS summoned Cyclones until VADOS grew a Plant type with 947/1572 health.

MULCIMER's Solar Flares converted VADOS into a Wind type at 735/1572 HP.  Since Wind was weak to Fire anyway, MULCIMER continued the Solar Flare assault and forced VADOS to change to Electric type at 524/1572 HP.  PETRAM poured down Meteor Showers until VADOS reverted to Ghost type at 316/1572 HP and OMNISUN returned to the battlefield.  If only OMNISUN could fight at this point, my victory must have been divine intervention.  Eternal Darkness missed when OMNISUN was at 27 HP and a Psychic Blast made the credits roll for real!

HERMAN resurrected VADOS and befriended it, peace lasted for centuries, and special thanks went to Moga the Pomeranian.  As for his sarcastic talking cat companion, "I don't know.  Nobody really asks about Cocoa or whatever his name was".  Coco was displeased.  The developers promised a sequel, and the postgame story of the beginning of HERMAN's reign began.  But I'm not going to do that when I could play with a new Custom Mode file. . .
"I wonder what that even looks like, a robot body with six or seven CatClaw daggers sticking out of it and nothing else, and zooming around at crazy agility speed."
