Back from the holiday trip.

T14.

Time to plan city places.

Here's first quite obvious spot. Gems, Deer, Corn. Easy to settle, on plain hill, riverside. Downside: Requires 40h monument and also no water... frown

In north I've found plenty of coast, Lanun will like this a lot.

c means cove and c2 means cove with x2 city. Meaning in the case of city settled to x2 none of the c will be cove.

I like x2 a bit more. Downside: Loses one Fish in the north (can use Crab though). x2 allows me to settle a city in the middle that can share capital's cove and use one of its own.

In the east the coastline continues and I've found new spot for a city. It could be moved 1E as well but requires more scouting. My scout is still alive currently 1E of the Sheep.

Good to see you back! I hope it was a great trip!

I don't remember the rules for coves: Can they be placed on ocean tiles, or only on coast?

Thanks, it was definitely a great trip. Lapland in Finland is a wonderful and beautiful place during fall foliage (ruska in Finnish). We climbed mountains or fells not sure of the word in English. Well, actually there are no mountains in Finland but there's no perfect English (as far as I know) word for our "hill" called 'tunturi' which is a hill high enough that there are no trees on the top of it.

Regarding coves: It's been a while since I played Lanun. Civilopedia says "built only on water". Testing shows that ocean tiles are definitely out, it makes sense though (what kind of cove would be in the open sea).

This means that some of the tiles in the north are ocean and cannot be used for coves. This makes x even less appealing option comparing to x2. Yesterday I found that x2 has some disadvantages as well: it's difficult to get to the eastern part of the coast because of the ocean tile 1N of the Ice. It requires either 50 culture or building a fort to move workboats to the other side or easier: build workboats from another city, for example from eastern Corn/Sheep region. However, if I'll settle x instead of x2 there will be no such problem at all. But x can only get 2 coves while x2 can get 3. Hmm, need to think about...

You can then put your filler city on the marble to access the eastern coast.

T19 I got money event, 44 gold.

Copper found T24 eot, decent spot for me.

T25 2nd city settled.

Monument first to grab Corn + Gems. Capital will pop 3rd ring borders eot T26 and I can then use the Deer. Capital will produce one workboat for Fish then another settler to settle 3rd city 1W of Marble. Calendar next to grab Cotton (extra happiness). After that probably Mysticism.

T31 I got a decent event.

My 2nd city was 18/40 with monument but now I can switch to Hunting Lodge right away. This will speed up getting Gems and Corn connected faster as well. I moved my (only) worker there. I'll build a second one soon.

T32 I settled 3rd city.

No worker help here but it'll use capital's Pirate Harbor (soon Port). Should be getting its own Pirate Cove in 2 turns.

What made you choose Dunwich as second location over Kingsport?

Mostly Gems/Corn/Deer but also the fact that Dunwich has a lot more hammer potential than Kingsport, and that is something I am going to need soon (for example building Hunting Lodge). In general I think Lanun often lacks hammers when focusing so much on water (like they should). I think workshops are going to be very important for me in this game. The plan with Dunwich is to build Hunters and explore the wilderness. Also I'd like to find my neighbors. I definitely want to check SE of Dunwich and W of capital for potential city spots. Not sure where to go with 4th city at the moment, north of Kingsport is good long-term but short-term it's very slow (no coves in the 1st ring). It'd be better once I have religion and can get culture faster. Need to think about this.

Northwest of capital is most likely an island which is something I want to grab fairly soon too. I could scout it with workboat first. Not sure yet if I should take Sailing after Mysticism already...

T40.

I think I found a spot for 4th city.

2 coves + a lots of floodplains to cottage later. Also first barb warrior I've seen so far.

The island is looking quite good too.

Capital has Copper mine and with EXP I can 4-turn settlers now.

I decided to go after OO religion already because I could use the extra happy and also to avoid building monuments.

Pretty good.

The game plan is still yet to open, how am I going to win this game? What kind of plan I'm going to follow? Am I going to play with Mages anyway? A lot of things to consider but no rush yet obviously.

I got OO, holy city in Dunwich which is okay. I was hoping to get it to Kingsport or Aylesbury for free border pop but oh well.
