PBEM #1 - General Thoughts

You were the only one with marble and you did have AL as it turned out - I had to wait 7 blasted turns to get my hands on it after taking your last city.

I was dreading my second attempt at Sparta ... I fully expected you to pull your units back and then to pick me off when I pushed into your land. It was surprising how quickly it went from a tough battle to mop up. I think that if you had abandoned Sparta with most your your units alive (but totally beat up), I would still be fighting in your land.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Hmm, I don't think so. Either way that battle was in no way a turning point in the game.

I'll post some thoughts here (though it was a while ago) and most of this can probably be seen in my summation at the end of my thread.

My key decisions that factored into the game were:

I could have had an early rush on MH but decided to sign an NAP and then a really long NAP. We still managed to not coordinate properly on techs though with both of us researching monarchy.

I made a lot of micro mistakes and what not but the next really big thing was delaying attacking Dreylin. I waited until I had what I felt was enough CA's (6) and blundered the movement of the 1 movers through the hills (yes it was a blunder). I don't think it's clear in my thread, but I was extremely close to switching sides. The moment I got the game back and saw MH had made peace I knew I had signed my death warrant.

Though peace was available with concessions I refused it. I didn't want to play a run-down civ and had started to look forward to rbpb2 so just fought to the death. If I had made peace I probably could have had an effect on the outcome, or simply delayed my death, who knows. I do think I did my best fighting Dreylin though.

DeTog was definitely very powerful and the liberalism slingshot to Steel is the advantage Detog needed to get ahead.

And that Dreylin is the victor through Diplomatic means is not very surprising. To me it's quite evident through his thread he worked the diplomacy endlessly and tirelessly.

I'll echo MH's thoughts in that after reading through the apolyton write-up I'm surprised at the map design somewhat of having Dreylin effectively be able to control who meets whom when...I'll note though that I never did thoroughly read Sullla's comments on it so perhaps it's in the no players thread.
