You may want to put #2 one tile SW, to get access to the three-food tile before your border pops, unless you are able to get the wheat farmed right away.

Good call. I'm a little bit in ladder cton mode, where I'd probably plant 2 later and the be concerned about border pops. Planting further away form the edge nets me a few land points. However this is a full-length game, so I need to un-learn those habits.
Of course both spots may come down to resources once copper etc appears.

New discoveries mean 1A and 1B are probably both out:

I'd leave it where it was - you miss out on a lot of chops by going 1 SW, plus you pick up useless desert tiles.
As for 1A and 1B I think 1A is still a good city, while 1B should go 1W off the plains hill. Plains horse, grass pigs and 5 chops make for a great city.
You shouldn't worry that much for the border pops - you'll need Terraces soon anyway, and they'll take care of it.

If you're still lurking Imho would you settle marble/corn or pigs/horse first?
Both are about equally vulnerable to attack, but I'm torn between sending out 5 chariots ASAP and building the Oracle for cheap.

In your case I think I would go for the marble first. You're Imp, you want to expand rather than rushing. Besides, this is a PBEM, not ladder MP. Warfare is more difficult, and 5 Chars won't kill most probably - 2 Archers on a hill are enough for them. Besides, you could still go for that after settling if you want...

I think you give good advice. I quibble a bit about whether chars would kill someone though - this is still Inland Sea always war. I can't double move, but that doesn't matter when someone only has one city. I guess my gamble would be that someone went for BW and didn't have metal, and I could get there before they had their own horses or many archers.
In a CTON I actually DON'T like to rush since I can out-point random noobs and skilled players won't die anyways. But against like the T-Hawk+Kylearan team I worry if I let them play unmolested I won't be able to keep pace.

Just an FYI for you sunrise - I will be back to having a civ-available computer on probably Monday. It looks like you haven't needed me, but after that point I should be available as an occasional sub if you can't get to the turn on some days.

Ok, so T14 played. A few things since I have some time: my understanding is that the score list on the right just shows the order of players' scores and the order they play the turn in. I was on top 2t ago turn when I discovered mining, but I'm not otherwise following the numbers closely.
My current tech path is BW -> Poly -> Priest -> Masonry -> Wheel -> Hunting. Of course that would limit me to Monarchy or Iron Working with The Oracle if I land the wonder, so I may need to go Writing after Masonry. Of course if Speaker gave everyone Marble then I probably won't win the wonder anyways.
I think cities 1, 2, and 3 are all pretty solid, and they all can be defended with one stack of chariots. The land to the west is very good, and it's possible one of the two pigs should be paired with the plains hill gold. Ideally there is another food resource like 2SE of the gold, allowing me to plant on the grass hill for Pigs+Wheat (GP city).
I still don't know much about the land to my west, though a Quechua is heading that way now. I'm likely to settle at least one city that way unless the land is much worse.

I can't believe you play without "Detailed City Information" turned on. You have to go into the city screen or click on the city bar to see how many turns are left on the settler?
