[SPOILERS] TT's Cunning Plan!

and the word was 'contrafibularities'

Welcome to the saga of Lord BlackHammur and whoever else I decide to introduce to the thread as things go on! :weed: (hopefully that is the only time I see that smiley in this thread!)

I moved the starting warrior NE to see if the land around the marble was worth settling and discovered that although it looked good, tile bleeding seemed to suggest that there was coast N of the Marble and so settling for it would not be worth giving up the plains hill start.

As moving the settler S would be a big gamble if the land surrounding the Stone was not as good, as I would waste both this turn and the next one just to settle back in place, so I decided to settle where I started.

BlackHammur's new dwellings
[Image: civ4screenshot0000h.jpg]

Lord BlackHammur does not do manual labour and so he has begun by recruiting a serf with no internal thoughts and will do what he is told. A Baldrick perhaps? To recruit him quicker, the rice tile is worked first as working a town would mean 3 extra turns waiting for a worker in exchange for 1 less turn of researching mining.

In that time, I can have the rice almost completely pastured and get growth to size 2 much faster and churn out another worker.

My initial research path will be: Mining -> Bronze Working -> The Wheel -> Pottery

Build path will be: Worker -> Warrior -> Worker -> Ikhanda

The Science of Deduction

Demographics
[Image: civ4screenshot0002tx.jpg]
It would seem that so far novice, Ruff & ad hoc are all working a town instead of the rice given my higher food score and lower GNP. I also believe that all of them are working the grassland town given the averages. (Food - 4+4+4+0 = 12. 12/4 = 3 | Production 2+2+2+0 = 6. 6/4 =1.5 - rounded down to 1)

By the inequalities in the soldier count, it would appear that I am fortunate to have received an Aggressive Warrior instead of a scout I should have gotten.

I think this attempt at Sherlock Holmes deduction is working better than expected!

Lord BlackHammur's first assumption of coast north of the marble was proven to be entirely correct as my intrepid warrior moved onto the grass hill E.

Clams as well may make that an attractive site for a second city, especially if more seafood is found moving onto the forest plains hill on the coast next turn.

The first convert from the nearby towns is due in 10 more turns now, but attempts to find out their first name elicited the curt reply "Sod off", so I guess its none of my business really!

The Science of Deduction

Unless someone changed their plans (which I think is unlikely), Pegasus joined me in working the rice tile first, so I think it is elementary to assume that he too is going worker first.

As there is nothing else to conclude at this time, I shall send my detective back to his violin.

Lurkers are free to break up my chains of posts whenever they like *hint hint*!

If someone could possibly post me a link to somewhere which explains how to track score increases for tech discoveries, pop growth etc for my attempt at C&D I would be much appreciated.

I think I have something somewhere which helps with demographics changes but if anyone has some superb links there too I would be really happy!

I will be giving away cookies!!

Just a quick update - last few turns have seen no noticeable changes in anything yet.

So Happy New Year from me and I'll let you know as soon as things change!

I was planning to update last turn but imageshack didn't like my screenshots!

But as promised, there are now some interesting tidbits to update you with.

Firstly, mining was discovered on turn 7

Research was set immediately onto Bronze Working so that my army can hopefully have shiny metal toys to play with. If they are lucky, I may let the neighbours watch me play with them too...

Speaking of which...

Bollocks! My first neighbour is Pegasus who was one of those I wanted to avoid. If my other neighbour turns out to be Ruff, there will be violent expressions of frustration! Especially if metal is close by everyone's capital. My friendly Impis want to visit my neighbours cities!

On the plus side, there is Gold nearby! I'm not going to indulge in any dotmapping just yet as I will wait for BW to reveal the presence (or lack) of copper. Copper is essential to my Impi plan so that it must be settled ASAP.

The Science of Deduction

No real change in the demographics yet so I shall not post it this time. When there is something to deduce from them, I shall enlighten you all.

However, this is worth my deductive efforts!

Both early religions have been founded and I believe I have deduced the perpetrators.

Buddhism fell on the same turn as I discovered Mining. The only person to have had a score increase before I did was Mr Ruffael Hidalgo - the Spanish tribal chief, thus he must be the Buddhist leader.

Hinduism fell on this last turn and once again there is only one clear suspect. The Sumerian Chancellor Pegasus' score increased last turn and can thus be ruled out, so the Arabian King Adnan Ho©ssain's score increase can be the only logical explanation as to the founding of this religion.

I will also try my best to track the techs of each of my opponents and compare them to mine.

Me: Agriculture, Hunting, Mining
AH: Mysticism, Wheel, Polytheism
Peg: Agriculture, Wheel, Mining
Nov: Agriculture, Mining,
Ruff: Mysticism, Fishing, Meditation

Now these mysteries have been solved, I must rest until more data is presented to me. I cannot work without data, it would be like making bricks without clay!

Another Introduction

I think it is about time that you were all introduced to my starting warrior.

Meet Wally:

Now I shan't ask you where he is yet, but as my updates are likely to have a few turns between them until things get crazy interesting - I may start a cookie competition to guess where he is over my map.

You may be able to guess part of my naming scheme from this, but it will change depending on what occurs to each unit as the game goes on.

I hope you enjoy my thread as it goes on.

Right, well I shall look at another update either this turn or the next one, but I would like to repeat my earlier request.

Could someone please direct me to a chart or web page where it details the score increases of each tech a civ researches. i.e Researching Mining gives you 6 score points, but Bronze working gives more (say 9). I would like to really give C & D a go this game (if I can) and this would be a major help.

I collected some links in Uberfish's thread here: http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showpost....ostcount=5
There's no spoiler info in that particular post, but for anyone in the FFH2 game #2, be aware it take you to his spoiler thread

Firstly it is with great sadness that I must announce the premature passing of Wally of Ashes alright

He was mauled by a foul bear with a violent agenda. Needless to say he shall be hunted down and killed along with all his known associates who it can safely be concluded hold weapons of mass destruction trained on my peaceful civilisation.

His last position has been marked and a revenge squad shall be sent out in the near future.

My flank with Pegasus has been secured for the short term with a NAP until turn 31 to avoid a warrior rush. No other clauses so early war can still be on the cards if I get some Impis around in 25/30 turns.

The Science of Deduction

ad hoc's city has now reached size 2 to join ruff. I imagine myself and Pegasus will start growing our cities from next turn as we will have our starting workers now. It may be a few turns longer for novice as it has taken them too long to grow if they did not go worker first, and has been working a grassland town.

No discovery of techs by novice either definitely suggests my assumption of them starting on Bronze Working is correct.

of my wonderful dotmaps!

Yes dear friends, the time is now for my fabulous dotmaps to grace this forum once more. Hopefully there will be no annoying copper placement to make me reassess soon!

Here is the map as I have discovered it:

Obviously nothing new since the loss of valiant Wally, but you can see my first worker 'Pitt the Corpse' (cookie for first one to guess my naming scheme) who has now been improving my rice for 2 turns. Also (this may be weedy but I think it is necessary) I have been working the plains town since the worker completed so that my warrior can complete at the same time as the rice is pastured, giving me some defence in case my other neighbour wants to take a risk on taking me out as I've lost my starting warrior. It also boosts my research to BW by 3 turns.

Losing Wally means that I have to churn out some new scouting units quickly so I can find the copper and the land between my neighbours as there is a lack of diplo.

I am now looking at building a couple of scouts in the near future as my failings in previous games have been poor scouting attempts and with the restrictions on diplo, I need to know about the land between my neighbours quickly so I can also make plans for any aggression without taking too great a stab in the dark.

Therefore my tentative build plan is this:

Warrior -> Scout (working Rice to grow) -> Ikhanda (until size 2) -> Worker (part chopped) -> Settler (chopped)

In terms of research, the way I go after BW does depend on which city I decide to go for next.

This is the dotmap I have constructed at the moment for 2 pretty strong and close cities.

At the moment I am looking at going for Orange first as it would be able to work the rice to grow as soon as it is settled and has some solid riverside commerce potential but also has a plains hill and marble for some production. I gain 3 new early resources in Marble, Clams & Sheep alongside riverside Silks and it is very close to the capital so easy to reinforce. It would take less worker turns to get up to speed and I would only have to build a very small stretch of road to connect it to the trade network.

Blue also gains me 3 valuable resources in Sheep, Cows & Gold and gains the riverside health bonus. It also seems to have a few more hills to work which would be handy for churning out Impis should I secure copper quickly. On the downside, it is further away and fully reliant on a border pop to work its key tiles. It would also require more worker labour to get up to speed and so I believe it would be a better 3rd/4th city.

As I am looking to get a settler out after two workers then I think Orange must be the choice.

For Orange Dot I can delay Mysticism (for monuments) until after Fishing as the capital's culture will allow me to work the Rice asap.

Therefore my tentative research path will be:

BW -> Fishing -> Mysticism -> AH -> Wheel

Now that was a lot more text than expected but its best to get my thoughts down while I remember them!

No real demographics changes yet so there is no installment of 'The Science of Deduction' this time!
