Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Japper tries again

All right, let's get this game going!

The more I think about it, the more I realize Divine Spark is a must for denial purposes. Don't even give them a chance to swipe DotF out from under you.

Get DotF. Expand/develop. Jongs. Victory dancing

Hmm that is an interesting start, I'd say we go Builder first while teching sailing (settling in place gives us the Eureka). Then we build two farms and the fishing boats for a total of 3 food and 1.5 housing. If we work one of the Rice's we can go Settler straight after, priority settle would be at least one more seafood to boost Celestial Navigation.

We could also go Slinger-Builder or Scout-Builder and get a mine on the plains hill as one of the improvements, gives us a little more variety of yields. That would be 2 food, 1 production and 1 housing. (we need to go something else than Builder first as we have to resaerch both Mining and Sailing then.)

Warrior NW?

What's your plan for the religion game? As food-rich as that capital is, you might be able to delay Sailing a bit in favor of the chopping/religious techs.

Delaying sailing means we get very little out of our first Builder, with some more thought on it I think going both Sailing and mining with Slinger first, builder second, before Astro is a better move. It is a very long tech to research right out of the gate, easy to economically fall behind if you spend the first 20 turns only unlocking that, much better to have two techs in the same timeframe, which are both useful to us, than one tech that will only pay off about 30 turns after we research that (as we need to have both a Holy Site built and generate a prophet before we get any pay-off from astro). There's also the possibility we bump into a Natural Wonder in time with those extra ~20 turns of exploration, which is a risk I'm willing to consider.

Fingers crossed that the save was actually properly made the second time, ugh

Anyway turn 1:

I setlled in place and I'm going Mining-Sailing and then probably straight into Astrology. Capital Build order: Slinger-Builder-Settler-Holy Site--->possibly Prayer project. No indication for city states on the settler lense just yet.

Oh right now that the game is launched we also know what everyone picked:

Emperor: England, picking England means Emperorr is going to be our main competitor when it comes to GA's, his other abilities are pretty mediocre.

Archduke: the Netherlands, as I predicted, Archduke wants the more builderish civ, The Dutch aren't very strong (much as it pains me to say that) but he should be able to get a solid economy with Grote Rivieren. We also have to watch the Zeven Provincien, with it's attack bonus it can obliterate walls, we are far better of with ships as protection.

Rowain, America, err shure whatever floats your boat... You did know you also had Brazil and Russia right?

Chevalier, Arabia, okay so we'll have one big competitor for DotF, but there is no other civ with a strong incentive for religious play. Arabia also misses the free faith from coastal settles, so that means we have an advantage if the race comes down to patronaging the GP.

That build/tech order looks good to me  smile Hopefully we get a lucky break with a natural wonder (not an unreasonable assumption, if we have a medium-sized island to ourselves, as in PBEM 4)

There's been an awful lot of chatter in Chev's thread (74 replies before the game even started eek) so clearly there was a lot of thought put into their civ choice. Hard to imagine he'd pick Arabia over Germany or Rome unless he had every intention of going hard into religion. We should still have the edge with the pantheon --> Divine Spark boost, but I'd still err on the side running prayer projects in case he has stone near his capital.

The Warrior revealed a nice second city location, sadly no second seafood source for celestial navigation but these yields are just too good to pass up: 4 4 yield tiles in first ring!
